how to take on fast agile ships?

i am not that great at combat i have to admit firstly.

i now fly mainly a conda and python as my main ships (both with turreted pulse lasers/beam lasers fitted).i did have gimbled lasers on my python which were great, until i came up against a few agile ships that just could stay behind us no matter what i tried :(

am having real problems though with some of the agile npc ships that interdict us. once they get behind us i just cannot get them back in front again to target. the good thing is that the turret weapons still hit the target, but i REALLY want to get better at combat and stopping agile enemy ships from staying behind us and me not being able to do anything about it.

am especially wanting to get better before the 2.1 update comes out for all of us,as things will be getting a lot harder with npc ships.

thanks in advance for any help :)

FA off and good use of boost helps. For example, a Crazy Ivan. A ship behind you. Boost, FA off, pull down on both thumbsticks until you are facing your assailant, FA off. You should be facing your opponent and flying full speed in reverse. Play around with some of the controls and you'll find some neat little tricks.

Or, hop in a fast agile fighter and dogfight with them. My time in vipers and eagles has helped me in my Annie, if only because I know what the ship is capable of.

I also will reduce my speed to minimum manoeuvering speed (just after throttle turns blue) and then pull up or down while vertically thrusting in the opposite direction (so basically both sticks are in the same position). This puts you in a pretty tight end over end spin and usually brings the NPC into your sights.

Would be cool if you instead of those small retro thrusters you turned in the left main rocket and right reverse rocket to yaw.

If you pratice with boosting you can turn sharply (for a python or conda). For the really agile ships using reverse thrust and turning works very well. If you turn FA OFF in a turn you will pitch sharper while moving with a linear trajectory, essentially flipping 180° while flying in a strait line.
