The Formidine Rift - Part 2

I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope for mapping Hassan's home world description in book directly to an in game system. I've scoped out every other Reclamation system as well as the systems from the other books.

In general the in game system bear little resemblance to the book description. There are a few exceptions, particularly if it's *the* major system in the book, secondary systems are generally just random.

The point being if you cull a potential Hassan homeworld systems because it doesn't fit the book description then you may be culling the real system.

What about Almagest system? A good candidate in my opinion.

- 400 ly from Sol
- Wredguia system (at least surrounded by)
- Has a planet with CO2 atmosphere + water and carbon based life forms

The main star is a G class - white/yellow... but what if it's main star is just the 'companion star'?
The 'Sirius Corporation' is in Almagest and there is an orbis station named 'Sirius Reach'.
This leads me to the assumption that with 'main star with clearly atinic lighting' Sirius could be meant.

I'm like 99.9% sure its located in Polaris, its in the Wredguia system. It's just not open to the public yet because of permits.

Yes, found it strange too, although I'm not too knowledgeable in astronomy to be sure. But if we have to go by the book description, actinic blue should be around 20.000 Kelvin, and max 30.000 as lorrad said. That basically leaves us only with class B.

The big question is if the description of the book is really represented in the same way in the game. Not that it finally is just a G or K single star system or something of the like...

You completely lost me there... :(

I have never been able to read anything out of bible passages. But you are right with that time from Drew, it is very strange indeed that it's so specific!

Well it's a tongue in cheek joke exercise in conspiracy thinking style. Like Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory who accidentally stumbles onto a real conspiracy. Another characteristic of conspiracy thinking, when right being for totally the wrong reasons. For the Bible sermon I checked its meaning online, and then added a dose of confirmation bias to reduce it to those three words.

Who knows maybe the rift does involve a conspiracy to make a threat look external while it's true origin is in the core serving darker purpose.

Hassan's homeworld would have to be fairly close to other populated systems. An eagle can't go very far without a refuel.

In chapter 7 of Reclamation, it is said the eagle didn't have a fuel scoop. From what I've found so far, that limits it to the Robigo, Sothis, Ceos area.

If memory serves, an eagle can do 3 jumps on fastest routes. Eco mode would stretch that out a bit, but a fully stripped down eagle can do 24ish ly.

How the old hyperdrives would enter into the equation I don't know. It probably limited his range even more. Someone familiar with the jump ranges of the old drives would have to provide that info.

Not to make things even more complicated, but I don't think Robigo, Sothis and Ceos were populated in 3300.

The most super secret organization in the galaxy is offering missions to the public out of Shinrarta Dhezra. They've sold out and gone corporate :)
They sell limited edition Amulets in the gift shop.

LOL, out of rep, +1. Dommarra was happy enough to buy one of those amulets and use it at one point as I recall as well. Without permission too I believe.

I happen to be thinking of exploring the quadrant that the rift is in, as a change of scene from the usual trip to the core.

What kind of jump range is needed?

Thanks. :)

That is a possibility as well.

Another possibility that just hit me is the eagle did have a scoop when Hassan left his homeworld, but he traded it for armaments or supplies upon reaching the bubble.

The tantalum drives really threw a wrench in the works figuring this stuff out.

"The Eagle didn't have a fuel scoop either, so he couldn't use a convenient gas giant." So apparently fuel scoops have lost that capability in the last 2 years as well.

It's far from clear whether this is an external thread whose origin is hidden, or something humanity's done that it's attempting to hide - our enemy may be right at hand

Wredguia sector starts right at the border of the bubble and Robigo, Sothis and Ceos are just about the distance that Hassan's world should be in. It does spread a bit on the wide though.

Drew, just read Schism. You're opening too many fronts for me to follow. I'm going to blame you for my complete disconnection from reality if we keep like this...

Jokes aside, great story. But now had to divert course to Tau Ceti to chase generation ships, and after that to Tianve. Great...

The Rift will have to wait for me now a little longer.

Has "Good luck, and ... right on, Commander." been decoded?

I believe so. There was a lot of attention given to the leading space before the ellipses. It does look odd, doesn't it?

Turns out that Drew just uses better English than the rest of us.

Ah, but anyone who says they are Dark Wheel are not Dark Wheel.
So I am not Dark Wheel....or does that mean I am ?
