What's your ship?

Couldn't live with the T6 or the Keelback, the cockpit feels wierd to me.

Me, I can't sand the looks of the Asp, and the fact the majority of explorers are sitting in one is a warrant that I'll never try it. And that sound...

I love the Keelback I'm currently flying with, but I can't wait to try other ships as well. I would explore in anything that has FSD and can take the basic equipment (i.e. scoop, shield, scanners and an SRV).

At the moment I'm using a Clipper, simply because it's the best choice for the way I'm exploring at the moment. 7A Scoop, 80 tons of fuel, economical jumping through dense regions; I could go well over 200 jumps without ever needing to scoop, and split-second scooping as I pass the sun while lining up the next jump completely tops off the tank. Jump in, honk, jump out. Stop to look around when I feel like it, but otherwise in and out as quick as the FSD cools down. Limited to just a 22 LY jump range, but not a factor here.

A Diamondback Explorer. After a long time in an Asp Explorer, I wanted something more manoeuvrable. It's fun flying rings around Anacondas during meet-ups!

AspE is my go-to ship for long range exploration. I don't think anything out there competes at all. While it's possible to get the Anaconda to hit higher jump ranges, you have to strip it down like mad, making it risky to land on planets. And that whole supercruise pitch bit.

I AAAALLLY wish there was a dedicated exploration ship in game.

I flip-flop between my 'Conda and my Asp. I've just gone back to the bubble to dust off the Asp having grown tired of the 'Conda - give it 2-3 months and I'll be pining for the 'Conda (again). Rinse and repeat.

That said, if there was an Engineer that let me upgrade the maneuverability of my 'Conda in supercruise so it was maybe closer to handling a giant snail rather than a rock, and who threw in a nice sunroof as part of the deal... I might never get out of that ship.

Went to Sag A* in my MkIII Cobra which netted me 80 million, so I spent the whole journey back thinking about which ship to move up into.

long story short I'm still in my Cobra with About 130million in the bank and can't seem to part with my money. Got a weird feeling that I never will.

Initially, my explorer of choice was the Asp E. I did my first trip to Sag A* in this and loved it. Recently though, I've used a build similar to this for the DW expedition. It's obviously a matter of taste, but I find the extra bulk of the Anaconda somewhat reassuring out there in the black. Not to mention the ability to defend myself somewhat should it be required. Although the ability to bring a zero-G swimming pool and a lifetime's supply of pickled onion flavoured Monster Munch finally swung it for me ;)

Have logged something in the neighborhood of 150k ly in a Conda and absolutely love her for explore. I have just kitted and plan to do a trip with a DBX.

I used an Asp X for Distant Worlds, and now have a DBX for a trip to the rift.

I've also just started a new Cmdr, who's in a stripped down startwinder with an E1 scoop!

Asp Explorer. It can fit everything I need, has great range, a great view and does it all really, really well. (and I can't afford a Conda)

Also a Lakon Type-7, which reached Beagle Point. This is a special kind of madness that I don't recommend :D

Seriously though, the T-7 is a very good explorer as long as you aren't in a big hurry to get somewhere. Decent view, plenty of internals and 24-25LY range, which is enough. It overheats easily, be warned.

This is an interesting idea for anyone who wants to test drive a T-7 out there where it won't be prey to hostiles. What was your T-7 explorer's price? Looks like it's around 37 million fully tricked out to survive an interdiction upon return, though it can pass 100 million with all the bells and whistles.

Currently in a 39LY Anaconda. Slightly annoying that it's total range is limited with how I've set it up, but the fact that it eats light years so quickly alone makes me very happy when I decide to "travel" instead of explore. Tons of cargo space, great jump range, and if I wasn't stuck on having a jump range as close to 40LY as possible it's total range would be fine. It does handle like a barge in supercruise, but that's kinda expected.

Before that, it was a 27LY Python. I'm attached to that one, ruined paint and all. Decent cargo space, had it set up with two maintenance units, a vehicle hanger, and the usual other exploration bits.

If I want to go far quickly or have multiple SRVs, the Anaconda is my choice. If I want to enjoy the view along the way, I take the Python.

Asp Explorer for my exploring. T6 for my hauling, well, until I get back and then I'm going to try and get an Imperial Cutter.

I've gone exploring in many ships, but 90% of my exploration time has been in my Asp Explorer the Amity. http://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/02A4D...02430i2i2f.AwRj5Yoy20RA.MwBj4yoRjI==?bn=Amity

I'm honestly tired of flying the same ship everywhere, but the Asp X is just simply the best exploration ship in the game. I'd love to fly a DBX instead but that slow scoop and lack of internal space just makes me frown every time I take her out. The Anaconda can jump farther and has more internals but it turns like a pig and I hate the view out the window. The T-6 is honestly my second favorite explorer in the game, I love the flying brick to death. Adder's are good except for that dreadful view out the front. Hauler's actually make great budget explorers. Cobra III's are very capable explorers too, probably my third favorite ship to explore with. I have taken my Clipper out exploring and it's honestly not too bad, it's limited jump range isn't terrible but it keeps it from being a really good explorer.

The Asp and the Conda rule the roost when it comes to exploring, no question. I really wish there were more high end choices for us in the game. All you need to do is look at the ship type spread from the Distant Worlds Expedition to truly see just how much we lack good choices for exploring:
