Del Tarrant mooted the idea of a Distant Worlds type expedition once Horizons lands. As we talked the idea of an Xbone-centric group emerged. Not 'Distant Worlds Xbone edition' but something of our own. Of course, PC CMDRs could tag along, just as Xbone CMDRs did with DW, just without the instancing, natch. But a PG of 100 of us, all sharing the same controller foibles, and all with a newly-rediscovered sense of wonder, thanks to Horizons? I'd be up for that. The thread name, Deep Recon X, was my first attempt at a name for such a group. As I said, this would NOT be 'DWX'. We'd define our own goals and destinations, preferably different from DW (although with the influx of new CMDRs at the mo journeys to Sag A, the Great Annihilator, and Beagle Point would be sensible). Who knows we might be the ones to stumble over the next great discovery?! Would anyone be surprised if FDev took a decision to throw us a bone like the next clue to other life? I wouldn't.
If this gets any traffic, We'll make it a full-on poll and then have a poll for potential names. (Though I still like mine! :p)

Would love to come but it would be a pain trying to keep up with the cool kids who play everyday

Timing's an issue, sure. But the fact that so many of us are older, and therefore have some of the same constraints on our time means we might be able to work things out to everyone's satisfaction. Besides, if an itinerary is laid out CMDRs can head out at their own pace. Also, unlike DW, we could have an entire area we want to search. So we all head out to a central point, together, in smaller groups, or alone. Then individuals and smaller groups could head out in a variety of directions. That way too we can ensure a line of supply so any stranded CMDRs can be helped.
SO, whereas Distant Worlds is largely a sight-seeing/social group, Deep Recon X (or whatever it ends up as) will be actively searching out discoveries and following clues.

I tried to keep up with Distant Worlds but I can't play often or regularly enough to join in. It will be much more fun with SRVs, too :(

Again I'd want a group that is more flexible that DW. With flexible goals, times, and inclusive of smaller tag-along groups and single CMDRs working towards common goals. I have a little time so I can do some of the research. Plus I know there are plenty over here in the Xbone forum who have their fingers on the pulse. We can beat the master race to it!

Indeed, and to be honest... waiting for another couple of weeks won't be too much strain before heading out. I'm looking forward to exploring being more of a team affair than it is currently. Hence the reason I'd like to wait until Horizons before pointing my ships nose to the black.

Along with the folks I regularly wing up with in ED, we're planning on heading out on our own respectively, since we've got variable RL commitments... but arranging to meet up at fixed points in advance on certain days when we're all online... for selfies and screenies and stuff :)

My Orca would be useless out there. I may have to bite the bullet and actually explore in a Asp...

Clearly a great many of us are planning deep trips with the advent of Horizons. I just can't shake the idea of up to 100 of us Xbone CMDRs together, making our presence felt in the galaxy by finding stuff before the 'others'. Common, but flexible goals. Different, smaller groups chasing down potential leads. All along with semi-regular, long-range sight-seeing trips.
Our own name, our own logo. Shaking off the lingering stink of us being the underdogs, only getting the scraps from the PC table. We'll have release parity in future and I, for one, want to make the most of it.

Can I take part as a PC pilot? Kinda' the opposite of the small Xbox community that DW had, no?

If you use Teamspeak or Discord, then I can even join the chat!

I've already got an Asp all fitted out in waiting... fancy schmancy Apollo paint and everything. The thing is, every time I step into the cockpit... I suddenly remember I've got something else to do and go bore myself into stupor by flying the Anaconda or Ferdie into a Hires.

I even jumped back into the Python and attempted to get interested in smuggling again, but the upcoming BB update will decide that more than any hankering I have for it.

Like Masagmarod, I really want to head off and play the intrepid explorer... it's what attracted me back into the Elite verse in the first place.
I can still remember scooping my first star in the original Elite... and with it, the realisation I wasn't dependent on heading to a station for anything. I headed off in my Cobra, braving the FSD failures and being dragged into Witch space by marauding Thargoids... scooping the tharglets up to sell as alien artifacts once I managed to destroy the mothership...

I really want that sense of adventure back... as opposed to playing ED as a rather posh accountancy simulator.
Credits? You can save them up for the fancy guns you'll all be shooting at eachother... I need something else from this game.

I've voted in. Consider me the first PC pilot of the trip.

I've got an Explorer-Fighter for the job.
