flying round aimlessly

Well that's exactly what I've been doing, I even have an empty slot ready for an SRV but iv got no agenda or missions, I am completely lost at what to do until horizons

You could do some exploring?, put a great big bounty on your head and wait to shoot all comers? How about some more trading for those extra expensive bits you've always wanted to try as modules? :D

Depending on your play style, I would suggest finding a nice little system on the edge of the bubble that has a Minor Party you like the sound of.

Run the missions for them (and others in the system), this might prompt you to run deliveries, a little mining, some combat/assassination and some smuggling.

Aside from adding a little personal purpose (as was my case), changing up the game from how you (I) typically played it, it'll also boost up some more Rep with the powers, which will come in handy in Engineers. I also found it intersting/fun to help 'My Power' expand and dominate neighbouring systems, crushing them under my boot.

YMMV :D

As above; just play something else for a while, or play nothing for a while - a break's always good, and if you've nothing you need to 'prepare' for Horizons, then you'll enjoy it more when you hop back in than if you just kept playing for no real reason. Gaming's supposed to be fun, so there's no point pretty much just killing time with it - perhaps especially a game like Elite.

Go to the starting system and show a new pilot the ropes. There are some lost individuals there and you may just make the game fun for someone.

Aye, nothing like making me feel guilty since I've been surrendering the Xbox to my son who's here for a few days :D

I really need to get back into helping folks out a lot more...best experience in ED as a whole...

I'd suggest a time out... go play some of the unloved games on your shelf/hard drive. Works for me :)

I really need to do this, BUT I just seem to gravitate (see what I did there?) back to Elite. I mean I bought CoD: Advanced Warfare last week and completed exactly one level. I bought Phantom Pain at the same time. Prologue completed, back to Elite. I bought Life is Strange and Lara Croft: Temple of Osiris. Booked them up so they would appear on my achievement list. I also bought RE 6. Now that I was playing a bit more (despite having completed it on the 360), but then... Since the Horizons announcement I've not been able to stop with Elite. I've generally been pottering around at my own pace, but now I have a manic need to grind some Creds for an Asp X, ready for gouging planet surfaces. :(

We'll have to team up... when I rescue my Xbox from my son that is...

Sounds like me. I've got Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Dishonored, Far Cry 4, Elder Scrolls Online and WWE 2K16 amongst others to play and I still come back to Elite.

Add a ton of gold to your best fighting ship a head to a comp Nav beacon. Time how long you survive and when you die go back and try to beat your best time.

I have been enjoying The Witcher 3. I never finished it the first time through, and they are coing out with another DLC real soon. The game is a masterpiece IMO. Recently bought Project Cars, and if you are into racing sims it is pretty good.

Rainbow Six Siege is one of the most frustrating games I have ever played. WAYYY to many technical issues and bugs with that game. It has the worst hit detection I have ever seen in a FPS. HUGE server lag. Its just a mess. I can't even believe a major studio like UBI has allowed that game to be released in the state it was in, and it has only gotten worse after all the patches.
