New Explorer has left the bubble!

I have been quite exited waiting this moment. I was able to get reputation for Clipper. I did plan what components my ship need to be best possible build for exploration. I did some trading to get moneu for these hand selected modules. And today was moment when I left Miquit System, Gonnessiat City starport.

I know 2.1 is near and it will give me welcomed upgrades, especially to boos jump range of my Clipper. My goal is to fly to Beagle Point. However I will wait for patch to boost my jump range. So what I do now? Well some close range exploration. This is my very first exploration trip and it is taking me to Orion Nebula. I have done exploration only for a short moment and I am already in trap. I have seen beautiful places, and had fun in relaxing quiet space. I have been combat pilot since I started playing so something like this is very welcomed. I also did my first planetary landing to surface (I don't count landing to outposts). It was great experience first time do some driving with SRV.

I really continue my journey and I am waiting what there is more to see. I want to thank this great community for all tips and inspiring. I also included photo which is from my first landing on a rocky surface.

enjoy your trip!

it is always clever, to take an exploration build out for a short trip, before going for such a massive trip!

better then to wish for 50 k ly, you would have left with a different outfit (like i did).

if you need another "shortrange" targets before thursday, i highly recommend

- eskimo nebula - the most astonishing nebula from the inside close to the bubble

and the

- veil nebula. most beautifull to fly towards it!

If you're near the Orion Nebula, pop over to Betelgeuse and/or VY Canis Majoris.

You can land on Betelgeuse 2, which is so close to the star that you can scoop fuel from the surface. Switch the scoop off for landing and departure.

I would definitely recommend a few shake down trips, you will find that you may prefer a different load out as you become more familiar with exploration.

Fly safe commander.

Welcome to the black. I recommend a couple of shakedown trips too.
EDIT: Though if you're going to BP, I suppose it can't hurt to have more spares :D.
I brought along "everything I thought I'd need" for my trip to A*, which means I've been dragging along four SRVs the whole way, and I've only ever used the one (it's nice to have a spare, but three spares?)

Welcome to the black.....good luck and takes lots of screenies. I am currently meandering my way to Beagle Point.

I made a day trip to a couple of nebulae yesterday, including the North American nebula. Pretty much did nothing all day Sunday but explore. By the time I finished it was bed time :p. I had about 40 jumps back to the bubble and contemplated logging out since I was tired, but roughed it out and made it back. I would have stayed, but alas it was my first spin outside the bubble as well and the trip taught me a thing or two. So needed to get back for a little tweaking. Can't wait to finish work and get back home. :D

Thanks for great tips for places to visit. Indeed I already visited Betelgeuse. I knew that red super giant is located in Orion and that was actually my first checkpoint for my journey. View was amazing and I did landing on Betelgeuse 2 to strech my legs, collect some materials and of course taking screenshots.

It is shame that high res screenshots can only been taken in solo mod. Currently I fly in open just for pure joy if I meet another commander in dark. After trip to Orion, I will visit another nebula. Time shows which one

I also have question. Has anyone logged out while on planet? I think it would be great if I could make my pit stops to planet surface and then log out and continue later.

Dear CMDR Timpelo,
We have analysed your blood sample and can confirm that you have been infected with the explorer virus.
There is no cure.
Best regards
The strange shaking when in the bubble clinic.

sometimes you'll find yourself inside the planet if logging it (and than you'll have to log in not into horizon, but basgame, to be in planets orbit), but most times it does work well.

Enjoy the views!

I'm currently out there too and at first I got bored, but now I enjoy the black. Pity I have to return to the bubble to get Horizons and it's exploration upgrades. I'll miss the serenity (for a few hours, I'll get back in the black after upgrading)

Instead of giving yourself a huge long-term goal in one go like Beagle Point, why not set yourself a number of stepping stones along the way?
I started off aiming for NGC 6231 (V945 Scorpii and the rest), then headed for the neutron star fields in Graea Phio, then Great Annihilator, then Sagittarius A*... and so on. Giving yourself something to aim towards keeps you motivated during the quiet times.

Enjoy the journey and Fly Safe Cmdr!

This is great advice. My first 3 trips out were far more local than my last one, which went out 30kly, but traversed 110kly (epic wandering, 60,000 DSS scans). You don't have to cross the galaxy to find awesome things. I am 60% Pioneer and have yet to even get near the core. There really is a lot of cool stuff out in the arms. I found a *tiny* nebula by literally stumbling across it. It is too small to see on the galaxy map, but I was cruising to a distant WW and saw a tiny smear, did some zoomed in searching and there it was. Tiny Nebula with a BH in the middle about 100ly from the system I was in. Ill post a pic tonight.

Point is, a few small trips can let you get your legs for deep exploration.

Well of course I have little steps. Now I visited Orion then something else. I am also taking part for Crab Nebula Expedition.

And yesterday I finally arrived to Orion. Sight was beautiful. I learned what is purpose why explorers like this thing so much. I thought that my previous job as bounty hunter at rings of HIP 20277 was beautiful but this is way cooler. I also discovered loads of cool things like giant stars, couple water worlds and also my very first earth like world! I am spending some time here in Orion for now and then I head back to bubble.

My first earth like world!

Beautiful sights of Orion nebula just from edge of it.

I'm looking forward to that one as well. Most of it can be easily soloed in a relatively short time, but I'm deliberately staying away as the social aspect of it will no doubt make it a lot more special.

I just wish FD allowed you to log into multiple ships. That way you could have one out in the deep permanently exploring whilst having a bit of extra fun on the side.

I cracked last night and bough me a shiny new Vulture. All I can say is, oh boy!!! I used to be scared of Pythons and Anaconda's, now I bully those fatsos and take their lunch money. :p

Good luck Commander! Let the Gods of exploration be with you :D

You can use Fraps or similar software to deal with this issue. Fraps+SweetFX can produce some very high quality screens.

the clipper ... is just looking THAT great. need to outfit one again for 2.1. when i made it back from my current trip (only 6000 ly to go!)
