You know, if they really want to be like Frontier -- it's not too late to license the Cobra engine and just port the assets over. It's not like there's much useful code there to salvage, the only good stuff so far are the assets.

If this project is to fully embrace it's destiny as a modern Duke Nukem Forever, it needs one engine change at LEAST in it's troubled production history. Forget UE4... forget CryEngine 5... Hail Cobra!

I'd actually be curious to see how their assets are rendered in Cobra. I don't think the lighting and shaders would be as good as they are in CryEngine but Cobra is clearly a lot more scalable.

And there are others who laugh their pants off and then don't buy after a free fly week. They really should drop the "fly" from that phrase.
Why? Quite accurate.

So they missed a date and got a bruised eye. What's the big deal? Pull up your big boy boots and carry on!

Retreating into your shell shows a lack of leadership.

After what happened last year specially, with all the backlash that generated? Better no dates, than dates just given for the sake of giving a date, and even if they did, such is already taken with a grain of salt by the backers.

We digress from my original point in this exchange...I didn't ask for a date, I asked for an update on what is left to be developed for SQ42. At this point, we can't even tell if there is a finish line and if we are anywhere near it.

I really don't see the advantage to backers to be kept in the dark and refused even rudimentary, rough estimates. CR promised to treat the backers with respect, like publishers. This isn't respect. This is marketing and spin while every donut and Tim Tam they scarf up is paid for with our money -- every piece of Restoration Hardware, every failed plan to build a useless mocap studio, every contractor hired and fired. He should be showing us the status of completion on each facet using those color coded completion bars revealed in that leak of their internal roadmap last year. That shouldn't be secret... it should be right on their page just like other "open development" projects who treat their backers with honesty and respect.

The money spigot isn't endless and he doesn't actually have all the time in the world. It sounds nice to say "take as long as you need," but it's not reality.

By default they update on progress, not on what's left to do. Would be interesting to hear more about the roadmaps what's next on the development of SQ42/PU, i think that can be done without giving any dates but information about it.
They do some of that, but not for SQ42.

If I were at CIG, I'd certainly think the money spigot is, indeed, endless. Seeing how minimal work translates into big chunks of income, I'd become pretty disillusioned to the fact that it could all stop.

The backers got cross because CIG missed the release date without telling anyone they were going to miss it even after it became really apparent they were not going to hit it. Then they refused to give an updated estimate because people got cross and mean about them missing the first.

It was not a backer conspiracy it was bad planning management and communication by CIG.

That was then, now they can't give an accurate estimate because the games wrecked and they haven't a clue how long it will take to fix.

They are giving us frequent game updates with their progress instead of promises of dates. When it is ready, it shall release, until then, you have the development reports about what might interest you to follow on.

If you find that so un-acceptable, feel free to go send angry emails at CIG.

I think most people understand that delays sometimes happen. Saying they on't give dates because people get upset when they miss them is just as silly as saying that monthly release were goals not targets or promises.

The problem is the underlying reason as to why they seem to consistently be unable to predict when they can do anything with the slightest degree of accuracy. It suggests that they genuinely have no idea owing to the general state of things or, they know the actual dates but they are afraid to announce them because they are too far away.

Neither of thosae is "good".

Somehow...the backers are always to blame

Well it started with CR blaming the backers for the state of the released AC. Like it was the backers fault that they were 6 months behind and they released a broken module. It seems CR is unable to take responsibility, even though is is "running" the company into the ground.

Moved to Concern.

lol, SC will keep moving forward, yes. Unfortunately for the doomsday preachers.

Not talking about doomsday. I'd rather not, really.

However, discussing how their current behavior and attitude towards backers is worthy of drawing conclusions on the progress of their software. Especially in lieu of any indication of where their "regularly reported progress" is going.
