I was curious how many of the younger players have played (or even youtube'd) the earlier instalments of Elite?

22 in a month here.

I've not had the chance to play earlier games, but I have watched a whole load of YouTube videos.

It only adds fuel to my secret wish that I was an 80's kid. :(

It wasn't that great been an 80s child Alicorn, I mean you actually had to meet people to talk to them and that ment going *shudders* going outside 😕lol

The only real benefit from being an 80's kid (70's actually) and have played the original Elite is that ED looks and plays a kazillion lightyears better.
I've spent hundreds of hours on the old Elite but I haven't the slightest urge to try it again, ED is so cataclysmic better!!!

I got to play the original Elites, but only because I've always been decades behind on technology. :D When other kids got their Super nintendo, I was just getting an Atari, lol.

Then "The Goldbergs" is time propaganda!

I got Elite free with an Amstrad CPC 464 magazine in the late 1980's. My love affair started there.

Like previously mentioned by someone else though, so much has gone into ED to persuade me never to go back to the original, not even for nostalgia sake.

26 myself, never played any of the earlier installments until the past few months. My poor excuse of a laptop can run FE2 and FFE with no issues (but the controls are a nightmare to figure out) and have been meaning to download Oolite. FFE is a lot of fun with the updated graphics. It is nice having seamless space to planet transitions. ED will get there soon...

I wasn't alive when the first Elite came out, but I would've been around the right age for the others, I think (born in 86). I didn't have a computer growing up, and I don't think I ever heard of them, anyway. I wonder if they just weren't that well known in the states?

Played Elite 2 on my Amiga 1200 back in the 90's.
When I say 'play', what I actually mean is 'take off, *pew pew* at random things, death by authorities, rinse and repeat'

Great fun :D

Same here, played Frontier for months on end on my Amiga 1200. The assassin missions were very hit and miss as to whether the victim would show up, glad to see not much has changed haha
