Federal Drop Ship.. Is it Worth it??

Mine too. I've moved on to an assault ship and have almost completely A rated it, but the dropship could do a few things ths assault ship can't, and I miss it. One was provide a 360 degree medium autocannon defense bubble with turrets on the lateral hardpoints, which was fun and increased survivability in CZs and against wings of 3 or more small ships.

Another was ramming the crap out of everything in sight with barely a blip on the shield. 6A shields at full strength were far more durable than the max class 5 of the FAS, especially at ramming speeds. You can ram in a FAS, and aiming and hitting the target is easier, but your shield's going way down and there's a hull tax to pay. In the FDS, you're like "Hey! You scratched my anchor!"

Someday when I'm well heeled enough to own multiple expensive A-rated ships, I'll definitely get another FDS- not only because it's fun to fly, but also because I spent money on a skin pack for the thing.

Everyone harps on the Dropship, but it's one of my most favorite ships in the game!

^ Went missing from my first post...

Stick biweave on the fas and those problems go away. The shield just provides a bit of a cushion for your ram, then in half a minute it's already up again. Meanwhile watch the hull take almost zero damage.

May need to reevaluate after today though, now we have hardpoint-killing missiles etc..

Yeah, I had 6A Biweaves on the FDS and I may pick them up for my FAS but honestly, it's manageable. So much armor! And it's only smashing the big hunks of metal that collapse my shields and take 5% to 9% hull; you can mow over stalled fighters with impunity.

I generally don't have to leave an engagement zone until the guns run dry and only once today was my hull under 30%. The funny thing was it was at 29% when i first spooled up the FSD but I decided to risk it and cancelled the jump, emptied my guns and made another 200k or so before I was bingo ammo and on my way home at about 20%. I wouldn't have dared that kind of loitering in anything prior to the Fed line of ships. They're fantastic.

The FDS has lots and lots of armor but unfortunately, a very vulnerable canopy. I found when RES farming, the canopy cracked long before the hull got into trouble

The FAS is better in that department too.

But again, the A class life support gives you like 25 minutes of loitering, and while I probably wouldn't push it that far, I like to think that nothing strikes more fear into an enemy pilot's mind than some madman with a holed cockpit tearing through his wingmates for 25 more minutes like it was a flesh wound.

ive currently spent about 100+ hours in the dropship and i went from 14million to 50 million credits grinding. in all honesty its not the best ship its slow and turns like a whale i was even considering buying an orca hahah! but no just wait till u can buy a python. or clipper or something like that even an asp is good

The asp is a great ship. But the FDS has more cargo capacity and is IMO better at combat

wheerrreee can i buy it for 48 million!?!?!

li yong rui space. the cheapest usefull outfit for a trading python is 85 mio, though - a great multipurpose/armed trader build is 120 mio+, and a combat python... is expensive.

if you don't have 85 mio, you'll be always better off with an a-grade federal dropship (65 mio fully maxed...).

to be honest im a bit over the dropship like its awesome at combat but just wanna taste the rainbow and try out the python

fine with that ... but getting from an maxed out dropship into a cheap outfitted python (below 85 mio) will feel like a serious downgrade, and you can't do a lot of things with such a build you do with a dropship (for exampel: combat).

but if you are more the type of player who likes to buy a ship and upgrade it over time, and you don't mind running away during the next 30 mio CR to earn, go for it. python is great ship - only not so much without the credits.
