Engineers Holy Materials

So I went to the guy that upgrades multicannons because that seems like what I wanted because I got a fed corvette and huge multis look awesome, so I outfitted my ship, headed over donated a bunch of bounties I had store up but then it said "Buy upgrades to increase reputation"

So I look and see all these materials I had like vanadium and nickel, but there was also a bunch of weird ones, where do I get these and how?

On planets, NPC's drop them and you can mine some of them as well.

Thank you very much sir.

It seems that many are from killing npcs, fitting for the combat dude +1 FD rewarding a player for doing their profession by giving them stuff that adds variety to their profession. It also seems to only require 1-2 planet resouces and they must be pretty common if I have them and I have only used the SRV for a couple hours total doesn't sound too grindy, but time will tell.

I like the ways it's been done. Other than the missing meta alloys and soontill relics, it's "carry on playing the way you play" and you will amass the materials the engineers need. Do a few more activities to add to this (like scan some high wakes, some freighters in SC, drop in a few signal sources) just enriches and varies the gaming experience.

People who must have level 5 engineer mods right now are in for a painful shock how much simply "playing the entire game" will be needed to get there. And they will call it a grind.

So by mining planets that means blasting rocks... Right?

Actually asteroid mining can give those materials as well. I got suplhur and phosphorous in the beta ice mining, so you can try it that way without roaming the countryside in an SRV. But other materials will probably require planetfall, as they come from data point scans etc. Oh and didn't see it mentioned here yet, also scan every ship you see, because data type crafting materials come from scanning ships, POIs, signal sources and wrecks.

Yes, right. I dropped out at several USS with friendly fleets. Did scan the ships, not shooted them. And earned a lot of data types by scanning those.

By scanning, you mean this normal targeting and looking at them, right? Like if you see, if they are wanted? !

It's all very well to say "other than the meta-alloys and soontil relics" but that's 2 out of the 3 things I need just to get started with engineers I can visit.
EDIT: ie one engineer wants meta alloys, and the other wants soontil relics.

Yes - kinda weak start I thought - Ill go back to the grind and getting killed by NPCs :)

If I had a gripe with that, it would be that all them engineers favor the feds and the alliance. The only one living anywhere near imperial space is Felicity. Which if find hillarious.. Felicity Farseer. Allegiation: Federation.. lives in an ALD controlled system :D

Don't worry, i bet the best engineers are not in game and most probably when FD will put them in game they will be all imperials :D

Haha yeah, who else would make bumpers and wings for sidewinders ;) (Yes, those things are still in the gamefiles if I saw correctly)
