Engineers Not impressed

So I'm guessing the balance is none existent any more.

NPC's can now interdict you with no hope of you escaping and have engineer mods that you have no hope of defeating.

Really?????

Nope, I've been playing Beta for the last fortnight, & I've not found that to be the case at all......& these engineer mods will be just as rare on NPC's as they are on PC's.

First High res I went to I was knocked spinning by an engineer mod. so not sure on that second point. Maybe more common than we realise.

the majority of ships i have encountered in the conflict zone comunity goal have been modded, all my friends have popped and i have popped so many times now, even in my a spec vulture ive died 3 times since the update, you cant get out of the zones 9 times out of 10, just glad im not in my conda.
low intensity seem to be more dangerous than highs now for combat zones. ai is ramming a hell of a lot more intentionally.

Good news is that NPCs now finally accept cargo tribute and will leave you alone. So there is that...

Just got interdicted in my Asp, done my usual and ran away, just as well as the ai started firing at me straight away. Took a little while to get some distance as I was mass locked, hull went down to 65%, sparks, bright lights and loud noises everywhere, but I did manage to escape.

It was a hellava lot better and exciting than the usual run away without any damage.

Please don't nerf the ai.

Mick. :)

Naturally, higher-ranked NPC have the ships modded more.
But that shouldn't concern OP if he's lower rank, he only should encounter lower-rank enemies (Unless he's gonna fly into a HazRES, of course)

All in all, NPC are a bit more formidable, yes (stress on the "a bit") but more due to AI changes than usage of the modded weapons.

So question for OP is: Have you ACTUALLY tried it, or did you "just hear it somewhere"? ;)

Really? That's awesome! :)

popped again .... green crap flying at me getting thermal hits from beams .... im not a noob, my ships a spec, my rewards from the comunity goal in neits is now wiped out due to the ammount of times ive popped, even the low zone is impossible, i just witnessed a group of enemy ships come in with their sparkly engineers weapons and wipe every single ship out in a matter of seconds, i lasted all of 30 secs before i was disabled, everything shut down/disabled even though it still had health. before the update ive died very rarely, ive now died more times in one day than the entire time since i backed on KS and got to play.
dont get me wrong i love the update and the new stuff it has brought but this is now getting daft.

What are you talking about? Only the top rank npcs have engineer mods, and very few of those do.
Escaping interdictions is easy today was the first time in months I didn't have to sumbit in my asp

well neits conflict zones are full currently of npc`s using engineers mods, the high zone is safer than the low ....
i kid you not ive witnessed it ive got no reason to be telling porkys, my entire group of friends have seen it happening we all have been wiped 6 or so times, now either we have had the worst rng ever for the ammount of upgraded ships coming in or something is broken, 3 of the group of freinds are now financially broke and have had to give up after loosing their last safe buffer of insurance costs of pythons/FAS.
im loving the new AI but i can smell a hotfix coming as the ammount we have encountered has been insane. one or 2 high level ships would be ok having the upgrades but pretty much every ship has had them.

I've got to respectfully disagree here, Marc. I'm glad you haven't run into a hard time with NPCs fully loaded with engi mods, but I consistently found myself in tussles with those that did in fact have at least one if not several mods during beta. Impulse attacks, thermal attacks, and asp explorers boosting over 700m/s were the most often repeat combo for me in beta. Just now, within 15 mins of starting up on launch day, I got greeted by a single npc that turned into a wing of 3, then a wing of 5, and then system authority on top of that, among them eagles and an Anaconda, all of which were able to outrun my FDL boosting at 400m/s, and got pounded by thermal, impulse, and other color-modded weapons I wasn't able to identify in time. Also worth noting: I wasn't able to see a single one of them with a rank above Master.

A word of advice from just another CMDR out there to the newer players that aren't yet geared up: Fly safe. Watch your six.

I didn't want to open a new topic for this, but the title covers my opinion of the new patch. So here it goes for whom it may intrest.

The new station comms are awesome, the new ui is unusual but contains more useful information, the graphics improvements are nicely done (inside station, planets and the asteroid belts).
The AI skills are improved but some aspects are just annoying (too frequent use of chaffs, turning fights).

But the Engineers are disappointing for me.
I wanted to improve my trusty python for better agility but in order to do that, I'd have to shoot barnacles (which I'm not going to do because I don't want to shoot alien lifeforms).
Most of my ships are laser only builds but to improve it, I'd have to do some illegal missions/jobs etc.. Again, I'm not gonna do that (I'm a law abiding space citizen).
Sure, I could just go ahead and start doing these but breaking my ethos would really make the game pretty pointless for me (and break the immersion).

So here I am. Harder to collect bounty (which is not necessarily a problem), unable to enjoy (the quite grindy) engineer mods. [ugh]

BTW, don't get me wrong, I enjoy(ed) the game overall and spent 600h+ playing, but this patch is mostly dissapointing for me.
Still waiting for something that'll bring me back in the game. [sad]

I, and my groupmates, have yet to encounter NPC ships WITHOUT Engineered gear. NPCs shouldn't have them at all, given the lore behind Engineers in the lead up, and how they were marketed for giving you an edge, not bringing you up to par with NPCs.
