Ok I'm the first to admit I am not the best at Combat but I do OK sometimes, until today of course!. I went into a low hazard combat zone in an A Rated Vulture and before I could take down an Eagle's shields 6 other ships destroyed me. I would say approximately 10 seconds after choosing my faction.

Like I say I have never been into Combat really but I am ranked as Expert, last night after the upgrade I was in a Dropship and got two kills before having to leave. But today was just ridiculous, no one could have survived, don't care how good they were. One shot took out my power plant and thrusters.

Seems a bit hard to me, it was the Low Risk zone after all ;-)
If you go into a Conflict zone don't immediatly pick a side, boost away and get some distance to all the ships, then pick a side and go back. picking a side in the middle of the battelfield tends to make the enemys side immediatly aggro against you, but as long as you pick a side a bit away from them it won't happen.

You also need a certain degree of luck as to not get insta popped. I can't wait for more people to experience the insta popping. Then you'll be complaining.

You know whats weird? The insta-popping, weapons no human can get, cheating and everything you mention seems to only happen to weak players. Cowardly AI! :p

Again with the denial and excuses, we are all facing the harder enemy, we are all having close shaves. I can only assume you had one pip in shields so you could stack it on weapons, and were hit by a huge plasma accelerator or a couple of rails, they wipe shields out in no time, it happens all the time in pvp with players not ready for it

I was interdicted. That means 4 pips in systems before I'm even pulled out of SC. What do you think I'm just a moron?

One of biggest issues I have/had with NPC AI is their inability to accomplish the oh so difficult multi-tasking required to scan a ship while flying, and NOT crash into the target...

Has anybody noticed an improvement with this regarding the new NPC AI? It's bad enough at a station, but in the middle of a dogfight...

Ai ramming while scanning was fixed, they will still ram you in combat.

Accidental ramming is gone. In combat they will try and ram if they can get away with it.

Nah you just need to get good.

Silly comment really, you can't get good when in 10 seconds A rated shields and an A Rated Power Plant is wiped out. What you are all saying is that the Combat in the game should be closed off to all newer players. If that happens then new players will quit and Elite Dangerous will die. Any constantly evolving game has to keep bringing in new players , Elite Dangerous more than most given the 10 year plan FD has for it.

Not everyone can be flying an A Rated Clipper or an Anaconda, but everyone should be allowed to enjoy the game. Not just people who have been playing it since the beginning. They have to give a reason for new players to stick around and learn, make it too hard and they will just leave. I am not a beginner, I am in the Top 25% at Neits so while Combat isn't my favourite part of the game I am not bad. But nobody would have survived that last encounter, 10 seconds to destroy an A-Rated Vulture?

I don't really see anything wrong with new players not being able to dive right into a focused site with combat like that - they should be a challenge, it's something to aspire to - but if the newbie ranks are still getting some of the high rank/modded attacks randomly plying newbie trade and routes then that's too harsh I'd agree.

\o/ to the mother of minions. good lord i'm terrified what the real enemy will be like now :S

So dying in mere seconds on an easy RES...thats fun? I can think of better games with a less harsh learning curve I'm afraid...starting to look as though this game isn't for me perhaps...learning curve went from harsh to brutal. New players cannot compete and you guys have seemingly forgotten, or just plain ignore how difficult this has become for players like me. It was fun up until now...now it's a chore just to log in and look for crappy haulage missions or 6 hours of scanning with a basic scanner...aren't games supposed to be fun? For everyone and not just the hardcore players? Because that's what this looks like and I can assure you this game lost a helluva lotta novelty value since this update ^^

It was a joke lol... I feel bad now cause I compelled you to write that.

I love the new AI.

Went in a normal RES with my smuggling/mission ASP, and killed 2 adders. (one competent, on deadly).
Competent was easy to kill, but the deadly one was no pushover.

Afer that, an dangerous Imp Clipper started heading my way. Well, for the first time in a long time I got
afraid of an NPC and got the hell out of dodge.

I say : pick your targets carefully and think before engaging head first.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure some people think this doesn't happen, but it does. Shields down before you can react and hull then gone in seconds. I'm going to record all combat now just to prove it happens.

Ah Ok, my bad. Jokes don't always come over well when they are written down! As it's always taken in the frame of mind of the reader, no tone of voice to measure etc

I am not saying I want combat to be easy by any means, but like I say it needs to be possible!

This updated AI is actually forcing people to think about their targets and not just go in 'gun-ho' as we've been used to. I think this is why there is so much chat on this subject atm..
But this is surely much more fun than just shooting fish in a barrel, and let's face it, that's exactly what it's been like up to now.

I've never feared an NPC in this game, pretty much ever.. now we have to approach with caution, make sure you have an exit strategy practiced and working and not just think you can go blasting up an Elite ranked fighter ship in your mildly upgraded Vulture... You're not gonna win every encounter this time and what's wrong with that?

And all of this promotes winging up from time to time to make life easier... and i know, i know, there is always the 'i wanna just play alone' brigade.... FD can't win sometimes it seems...

I had more fun tonight than I've had in space combat in a game in 20 years.

The new AI is everything I've hoped for.

I totally agree. I'm not plying ED from the start, so I don't fly any fancy ship atm. Interdicted a Deadly Clipper yesterday and after 5 minutes of combat I was overpowered. I had so much fun and a little bit of adrenaline rush from the actual combat. Prior to the update I found it a bit boring as I could interdict a Anaconda and kill it. But not now. It's challenging and it's deadly out there now. Just the way it should be

An adder is supposed to be a transport for christ's sake. It's not supposed to be a match for an ASP. Never mind being "no pushover", it should be no threat.

But you are clearly not a beginner...you don't have the same perspective as a new player. You can do things with starter ships that those of us who play every day with them could never do.

Two days ago, I was doing that in a sidewinder, albeit with some care...today, simply jumping to an easy res resulted in a very swift death in a mk3 something...the 350k ship.

Of course the older players are happy...but newer players like me are suffering...and when we say we are suffering, you guys jump down our throats telling us we have to "adapt"...starting to feel as though you guys have forgotten what it's like at the bottom...feels as though yer talking down at us and that ain't so cool at all.

For the elitist snobs, this update is the best thing since sliced bread...for the rest of us, it's a nail being hammered into a coffin...I'm actually close to bankrupt now even though my insurance is less than 20k...does that sound like I'm "adapting" to you?

I can see your point but there are only 2 solutions really. Either you adapt and get better or they roll back the AI update making the NPC brain dead again. In some ways you actually have an advantage as your rank is lower and you haven't got a big expensive ship. A lot of these vets are rapidly losing cash because they are getting minced since they never learned to fight effectively, used crutches like Robigo to get a ship they really don't know how to fly and cashing in bounties worh a fraction of their repair bill (or plain dying). I'm genuinely surprised I'm not seeing a pile of "I flew without insurance and the AI killed me" topics.

Now you absolutely cannot just pick targets at random and really pay attention to the NPC rank knowing what you can safely handle and what to avoid. RES is a bad place to be solo unless you work with the authority vessels or a wing. Know how and when to Rincewind. Don't go into low sec or anarchies unless you really are ready for trouble.

Oh god, assassins are going to be a nightmare now. It is possible to upset too many people in anarchy system and they send a hit squad after you. Last time it happened to me it was 2x Elite rail Sideys, I was in an Eagle and the time between them jumping in and me running was literally about 4 seconds. That is going to be even more unpleasant now :(
