The AI fights like a skilled opponent now, and if you make a mistake you'll pay for it, but no question it can be beaten.

Back after 7 months hiatus.

Took a kitted vulture out (CZ) and stayed in allied grouping and had some challenges but good ones. Had to back off and shield recharge much sooner than I used to. (I had been able to turret farm in an Anaconda before, I’m embarrassed to say, one of the reasons I took a break)

Took a D Spec cutter (728) on 5 runs with imp slaves. Almost lost the load when I was jumped and ate some missiles. (~10m) No point defense, no chaff, and NOW I KNOW what a Bi-weave shield is… (doh! heh)
Hilarious fun… bought Horizons because of this. Watch your loadout, expect to lose occasionally if you fly D Spec. If ya can’t afford the loadout, ya can’t afford to fly it.

If anyone has PM’s for some of the old timers (Moon, Scud, Victoria, h273……) tell them they might want to check this out.

TY Sara, Regards.

lol at all the l33t gamerZ git gud . yeah you laugh now when people complain the game is now too hard even in solo. yeah you want the AI even harder. yeah you will really be able to play when FD closed the servers because there are only the 30 of you playing and 60$ or whatever you each pay each year doesnt cover the frontier heating bill. they will dump the game or go bust, but of course you will never ever take responsibility for driving them to make AI that drives away the vast majority of players. its something you have in common with griefers - all about rights never accept responsibility. of course most of you also want solo removed and groups to force players to be easy kills for you because almost everyone saying git gud is a griefer anyway.

i will wait until i actually have an encounter before i put my own opinions here on the AI and vote in the poll. but the git gud griefer brigade dont seem to realise (ever) that games are not made for them and the 30 odd other full time gamers. they have to appeal to a large player base or they die. git gud = lets kill this game forever.

Where do you think AI currently stands?

http://fancyfishgames.com/img/difficulty_curve.png

From balanced arguments, seems like it's firmly in the 'frustrating' sector. Ones finding 'frustrating' fun, calling out everyone else to l2p or 'git gud' fail on the empathy test when understanding that not everyone starting or use ED for recreation want a frustrating time. Even people saying AI is as it should be, admit that unbalance of uber weapons, plus uber AI piloting makes it just frustrating. (Unless you're a hardcore ED god, which I know some are on here :))

IMO...
If you are looking for combat I think its between Challenging & Hardcore Fun and you need to pick your engagements carefully (as it should be)
If you are NOT looking for combat then its often firmly in the Frustrating area.

Hmm, a pattern I'm noticing is how the majority of people complaining about the AI seem to be flying Anacondas. This suggests to me that we're dealing with people who have decided to grind the credits to buy the Anaconda, without developing the necessary combat skills needed to fly the thing properly.....and that is coming from someone who is a self confessed "poor pilot" himself......but then I only got as far as a Vulture in the space of 16 months.

My largest ship is a Python which has basically been converted to a glorified hauler, I'd like to be able to run from a fight in that, I could before the update, now don't stand a chance when an OP AI interdicts me, the last interdiction, I wouldn't even have had time to turn and fight, my shields were gone moments after I'd dropped into normal space.

sorry but no i have a anaconda and with a bit of respecking im mowing the ai down. its people in lesser ships that are getting owned in seconds.

Have you got a data capture to back that, or should we instead trust FD who have told us that they use the same kit as us?

Yes, remarkable how he has managed to "test this all night" whilst also moaning on this forum thread at the same time.......he must be one hell of a multi-tasker, even if he can't pilot his ship ;).

At least the game will stand and fall based on its own merits then and not because of popularity vote.

Then that's your own fault. Asking for the AI to be dumbed down again just because you're not very good at piloting a large ship isn't really a good argument.
I'm asking for the AI to be fair. I can pilot my large ship just fine. Unlike most players I used fixed beams on my Conda cause I knew how to fly. Now I'm relegated to using all turrets (assuming I even wanted to play now) in order to keep constant fire on the AI so they wanna keep moving. They never escape the firing arc though.

n'aw, its people expecting an easier fight. Any ship could be used just as effectively, it matters on the pilot, his ability, the configuration of his craft and the mistakes made by his enemy. People were just expecting that they could just casually stroll into an RES site and engage enemies at instant sight, but now, it requires risk assessment, which is what combat should've always been, and is against other commanders.

This is from one of the other threads. Robert closed it just before I could get this reply in.
I worked hard on my thoughts, so here it is. :)

Combat rank is compatant problem is I'm getting indicted and not getting the chance to get away ive now lost another 2 cobras its taking the enjoyment out of the game for me to be honest, I mean its not even this hard in eve online or star citizen at lest you get a chance to fight back. New starters have no chance and I think Frontier will find people leave all because the npc are to powerful.

when I played on xbox Ed I have over 600 kills but I'm finding these npc's very hard to get away, maybe its me and at 53 I'm to old to be playing games

I'm 56. I have no problems with the NPC's. I have a wanted status is several systems, all of a misunderstanding of course, and 2.1 bounty hunters pop up at the most inconvenient time. In beta I just killed my attackers after submitting to the interdiction. In the main game that just adds to your wanted status and makes more hunters come after you. It did in beta too but I didn't care in beta. :)

Now I fight interdiction. Win some, lose some. However the result is the same. Power to engines, boost, boost, boost! High wake and get the heck out of dodge. Or go back into Supercruise and prepare to fight the interdiction again, because he will come back.

I'm having a blast. Don't blame what's happening on your age. Adapt to the game. Don't ask the game to revert. I came back to the main game a couple of times during the beta. I found it boring.

Rise up to the occasion. Soon, winter will be here.

Not had that problem myself. Unless there is a whole gang, & they're armed to the teeth with missiles, I can usually escape quite easily.

you do know pcs can do more then one thing at a time lol.

i think you got that the wrong way round pal , its the GIT GUD crowd that's slagging other players off
and this looser has been in many a bar fight and not just in this country so you just keep tapping on your keyboard and leave the real fighting us

The AI is fair. You're just making excuses for being in a ship you clearly can't handle. You used fixed beams 'cause the previous AI was a complete moron who would gladly run into your firing arcs & even do a nice little "spin o death" to help you out too. Now you're facing a REAL opponent, you've suddenly been shown that your combat skills aren't up to snuff. Don't be ashamed of that, as it was something I learned during the beta too.

Just one problem with that. There are no easy zones. Or hard zones. Especially not as far as interdictions are concerned. I'm of a completely different mind. I don't think ship ranks should matter at all. It should be based on the ship. A viper should never be a threat to an anaconda no matter the pilots skill level. In a one on one scenario of course.

High Security systems vs Anarchy systems. People need to respect the security response more.

I think smaller ships are in a good place, they definitely shouldn't be insects you wipe off your canopy but it is clear just on numbers alone that they stand little chance against a bigger ship.

I honestly don't think anything smaller than my FAS would ever be a threat, 6 Sidewinders was a good fight but the 8 were a hefty challenge. In a bigger ship I imagine the 8 would be easily manageable however I don't have the rep requirements for a Corvette.

I would happily accept this on one proviso...
.
Any NPC interdictor is no higher than Master in rank and has normal weapons. Maybe with Anarchy systems as an exception.
.
I accept I'm not good enough for the new breed of AI and I'm fine with avoiding HazRez etc because of this.
.
However, when I'm trucking along in my T-6 with max shields, mostly A-rated components and a full hold of gold, it is not fun to be shredded almost before you stop tumbling from failing the interdiction mini game. I should have the time to cut and run when I am not looking for a fight and I'm not in a combat ship.
.
I can afford the rebuys, so I'm not as inconvenienced as some, but it simply isn't fun if interdictions have moved from irritating to probable death.
.
I also accept that running shieldless/all D-rated trader to maximise cargo/profit is not a smart move and I never did this anyway, but if your ship is reasonably kitted out and you are prepared to do the 'Sir Robin' move it should (almost?) always be possible.
.
This is not a case of 'git gud' unless you are the one picking the fights. Most of my time in this game is spent trading, exploring and mining. I don't do much fighting.
.
I am rated 'Dangerous' but this just means I've been playing the game since beta and everyone will be triple Elite if they play long enough because it simply isn't a skill rating. Skill would just get you there faster.

You might want to stay out of low-security systems if you don't want to be interdicted by high-ranking AI. Low-sec really is low-sec now. Bad things happen if you go into low-sec systems unprepared.

No, you fought dumb AI before. Now the AI is not as stupid
