I do. With no risk involved where is the fun in trading?

were playing in a sand box game an what fun for you may not be fun so some other player. like i rather fly an A fitted cutter into an star with no money for Rebuy before i go mining.
and there has always been risk in trading unless your using an combat A fitted FDL as your trade ship

progression for new players is now 10x as fast as it was in 1.0. New players or save resetters wont even see the scary AI much, if at all. New players will do fine, its the skilless grinders who are in trouble...

Thank you for confirming my original argument (post 14 here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=254585&p=3954068&viewfull=1#post3954068. New players, depending on their play style, can indeed rank up much faster than first generation commanders could. I'll take your 10 times factor, as there is some good evidence for it. However, real skill does not develop any faster than it used to. The newbie will thus be on the wrong side of the skill/difficulty curve at some point, just like many of the casuals complaining here. These people tend to quit, spread bad word of mouth, write condemning reviews and ultimately damage sales for ED.

The real salt will come from the "Git Gud" crowd, when FDev should have to cease game development due to lack of sales or move to a monthly subscription fee.

I dunno if it's ai doing something to me or the way heat is changed, but I overheated 5 seconds after engaging an npc asp with my own asp ... fired a few volleys of my 4 small burst lasers, instantly got 110% heat, meanwhile my shields were down already, his not even halfway down ... :s

Then I put everything in engine, decided to boostspam out of there ... enemy was faster then me aswell. -_-'

There are countless Games where the chance of getting 'killed' is way higher then 30% at any given time...

Well sure. I play GTA V. Obviously that game has a much higher chance of getting killed. But I play that knowing and expecting that to be the case. I expect to be killed countless times playing that game. Finding goofy ways to die is part of the fun. Dying also doesn't undo your past couple of session's work at earning credits either.

I don't expect (or want) to have to fear for my life the moment I step outside of a spaceport, especially when I'm not looking for combat. If I'm looking for combat and get blown up, then fine. I was looking for it. There are a lot people who play this game who aren't looking to get in a fight, though, and want to do their own thing. Having to fly around in tanks to just survive is not "fun" for those people.

Unfortunately that is not what is happening, the matchmaking is daft and the modded weapons / systems on NPCs are just way too prevalent. It needs a very serious rebalance because traders like me are not enjoying it as much as the pew-pew brigade.

The game's marketing says "Play Your Way" - not any more, now it is play our way or enjoy the insurance screen.

It isn't simply marketed as play your way though, is it Malc?

You do this quite often, where you slim down what FD say to meet the criteria that forwards your opinion.

This is what you are greeted with on the very first page of the Elite Dangerous website:

TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR OWN STARSHIP IN A CUTTHROAT GALAXY.

Not a "whimsical, cotton candy" galaxy. A cutthroat galaxy. That means fierce and intense, according to most dictionaries. Not easy spawn and grind.

When they say play your way it has an addendum:

"Experience infinite freedom as you earn the skill, knowledge, wealth and power to stand among the ranks of the Elite."

Earn the skill, knowledge, wealth and power. Not have it gifted to you. Not turn on Netflix and print credits. EARN it.

This god awful, constant nonsense that is thrown around about "Play your own way" and "Blaze your own trail" is bloody tiresome. The galaxy is supposed to be dangerous, not because it is in the name, not because there are "pew pew lazer crowd". Because they designed it that way. Because Elite has always been that way and hopefully will always be that way.

+1

Though even if the vote stays the way it is currently, it still means that 37.5% of the active playing (paying) punters don't like the way this has gone..

And how much of this 37.5% are just voting because it's change (and change is bad, no matter what it is) versus those that are trying to honestly adapt and failing?

You'd be surprised at how forcing someone from a comfort zone (farmers) create resistance to change.

People love crying, i will jump into a t-6 and show that you can survive , and profit with any ship....

I hate those I lost my shields in 5 second yada yada, then you look the modules of those people are all D, and the shields are the lowest class possible (RATED D never forget the D), and no weapons, not even a CHAFF...

guess why they die... because AI is WAY MORE INTELIGENT THEN THEN.... go figures...

Really? you played the original Elite? where all you had to do was fly in reverse to win.

Nope, it's going to get better. :) Well, needs another balancing pass perhaps, more variety in tactics (to make mid ranks a little easier), and new skills for higher ranks to make them a little less predictable. :)
Just bear in mind that as of next Friday Xbox will be in sync with PC, and all of the beta testing - all of it - has been done by the PC guys. We don't have HOTAS, VR or head tracking. We have televisions and xbox controllers. And we're all about 90 years old

Id like to add one thing: if elite is in market ~1.5 years, and its just now(since yesterday) when it is really dangerous, why do you say that elite has always been that way?

That is the nail in the coffin, I am afraid. I can handle the new AI, but many casuals and newbies can't. Sales will suffer as a result, possibly forcing the end of development.

I hope you are proud of that, Mrs. Avory, as you further crank up the difficulty. Good job </sarcasm>

There is no other game modes, the galaxy has threats for all. You need to build your ship around those threats. Nobody should be facing threats in an unshielded, unarmoured freighter.

There is nowhere and no time in the game where you say "I am not doing combat today, so I will not outfit with shields". Prepare for the worst case scenario.

You know what I mean. Clearly I can't have a ship with a 30+ly jump range, and still have it fitted the A rated shields, shield cells, and state-of-the-art weaponry. And I dont intend on starting to explore in a Corvette or a Vulture.
