Engineers I hate the Engineers update

I just need to vent here. I hate 2.1. I hate it because of the sheer number of bugs and issues new to the update, and for so many unresolved issues from earlier versions.

I know it's only day 2 and that there would be some hiccups, but this is ridiculous. It feels like an early access game. What was the point of the beta? Did no one issue bug reports? Did Frontier not read the reports?

I've submitted some reports and read many of the others, and I don't even want to play my favorite game for the sheer immersion-breaking graphical issues and the anxiety that I may fall prey to any of the numerous problems.

At first I was bummed that the update dropped while I was halfway between Sag A* and home, because I wouldn't be able to check out many of the new features. Now? I'm glad I'm far away from it all.

Give me back 2.0.08. At least it worked.

And it seems you're not even counting the absurdity of the gambling mechanic either... Honestly, the only promise Fdev delivered on was a tougher ai (when it doesn't bug out...STILL....).
-Crafting? Not delivered.
-Ability to customize weapon colors? Not delivered. (granted this is about as minor as it can get but it was still promised so...)
-Customize your ship? Not delivered.
-Fixed missions? Not delivered.
-Improved graphical performance? Halfway delivered.

They should just rename the game to Elite: Gambling and be done with it.

Are you being sarcastic?
I really can't tell.

He's not being sarcastic in my view. Bringing the RNG at the end of a massive grind to get the materials is literally about as insulting as it can get. He's right. They completely fubard this update

It might be more productive to keep reporting bugs and giving more to the point, detailed comments on stuff that irks you instead of posting another one of these pointless and rants that have no actual content.

I was not even referring to the RNG.
RNG has been discussed to death. am a bit sick of the whining about that.
And it really is not as random as many seem to claim or think.
RNG in engineering is a very constrained and balanced process that adds a reasonable bit of randomness to it all.
I think it makes the process less boring.
FD did even add a good compromise for the special effects.

As with every game a dev can not please everyone. There's stuff I would like to see changed or tweaked too.
But that is the case with every single game I played. No game is perfect, not even the games I adore and worship.
Nobody can have it all. Some just do not stop whining over and over about the same stuff that is not as they want it to be.
It really is pointless to go at it that way.

I did say.

Yes you did :).
Nevertheless my point is valid.

Grindy, tedious resource collection, unbalanced/overpowered npc, bugged missions (old and very annoying), russian roulette so called crafting, with engineers, instant interdictions (again), no npc scaling between high security and anarchy sytems (again).

Despite many bug reports and feedback we have a disappointing patch which is driving people away.

<snipped> bugged missions (old and very annoying) <snipped>

The last 6 missions I have run, gave me redirects which upon arriving could not hand in. Talk about wasting a solid hour being run around a heap of different systems to then be bugged out and not able to hand any of them in.

I am trying to like this update, but its pushing me away currently.

You're right, they can't please everyone; but I am not one of those people pleased by 6 month late, seemingly lazily coded, buggy, insulting RNG-cop-out, unbalanced time and resource wasters.

This gambling mechanic is in no way balanced for the simple reason of it being random (and it is despite how weighted it may or may not be) and it will continue to be unacceptable until they deliver at least a small portion of crafting instead. I did the betas and right through to beta 6 it was the same: repeated rerolls excceeding 20 and all I got were downgrades from the base module or items that completely defeated their own purpose (longer range but reduced accuracy...WHAT????)

That compromise for special effects? Nothing more than another time sink mechanic from how they described it as it doesn't give you the effect you want, it gives you a small CHANCE of getting it.

So in short: 6 months late, completely borked, and nothing promised has been done to a working degree if at all. The AI and missions still being broken after more than a year might even be enough on its own to be disappointing, as this load of junk has shown a lot of us, there isn't much faith to be had in Fdev right now.

I am well aware of the difficulties of programming, but pushing these out while they're still basically betas is not acceptable and the game design is not going keep many players, let alone attract new ones. Everything failing repeatedly in the same fashion every. single. update, has left a great deal of us with such low expectations that the rest of season 2 really isn't even expected for this year. We keep seeing more paint skins and add-ons like bauble heads when they should be focusing as much manpower as they can on just getting the basics of the game working. And of course, all the issues jut keep compounding upon each other making them even worse as time goes by....

Just going to need to wait and see how they do since I got the lifetime, there isn't much hope for season 2 seeing as they're already halfway through the year and haven't finished producing the first of 5 planned updates to it.

I need to praise here.

I love the Engineers update and have seen very few bugs on my end. The most solid update so far! :)

;)

Same here. It's revitalised my experience with ED. Very marmite in nature this update. Im not a huge fan of the RNG spin but it's ok. Finding the materials so far hasn't been too onerous.

Hello OP.....it boils down to this........no or minimal QA Testing.........Games have changed.......Most studios used to have QA team, "Games Testers" as they are known........their job was AWFUL.......They get a bug report that a certain set up at landing pad X makes a ship blow up...so they have to make sure they have the right set up, then re-tread the steps that lead to a bug, and see if they can re-create it,....and they have to do this over and over and over until the programmers finally fix it and the bug is gone......
.
It is tedious, mind numbing and sometimes mind breaking work....VERY repetitive, they don't just sit on their and "play the game".....it is a real job, for which they were PAID........back in those days though, patching was not always such an option, so firms really had to get it right....
.
Things have changed now, firms can toss out unfinished buggy junk....they can promise "everything will be fine in 10 years, when it is finished"......and YOU PAY to test it, on the hook.........laughing all the way to the bank.......

I refuse to sit here discussing because it's ridiculous an eagle dropping a pyton
or this kind of stupid thing that's happening now

The sheer immersion-breaking graphical issues? I've looked up the stuff you've submitted. Are indirect lighting artifacts and dropped frames during hyperspace really worthy of such venting?

Anxiety about falling prey to any of the numerous problems? Like what? You're halfway to the core.

What on earth is there to hate in deep space about this release update? That FD are focusing on improving planetary textures, having the SRV leave tyre tracks, preserving starlight spectrum for more distant planets, or fixing the long-broken ice and rocky asteroid ring visuals?

lol.
If you are not having fun with the core element of the game how can you expect to like the rest?

The ''RNG'' simulates the idea that the engineers , tweak and tinker our EQ and early upgrades for the engineers are very easy to get.

Thats not a bug , thats normal.
In combat having the bigest ship does not mean victory.

First off the python is not a combat ship , its a multi-role
The phython is large and slow , thus making the python the perfect target for a eagle.

The eagle is fast , and when used right can pack a massive punch , given the option between eagle or python for me its eagle all the way.

So its no bug , its a feature and a fix

Your right, but they won't keep the AI as is, its currently better than 99% of players vs large ships so my advice to OP would be to wait a few until they tone the mid ranks down to not be so good as to encourage turret or bust. It is good fun to have small vs small and large vs large though :)
