So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

HELP ME MAPPING THE HEISENBERG ROUTE

I am launching a request of help to map a few systems for materials along the Heisenberg Route (yes, again, I was off a long time). The system is Myoideau xj-r c4-0, and the Heisenberg Route can be find in this drive sheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...iI7YqGtPATAO3XJG82o-Iy-hQ/edit#gid=1634393559

Myoideau xj-r c4-0:

This system has a good potential. Just on 2 planets I already found Vanadium and Germanium, enough for basic jumponium.

You can mark the materials on find in this spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OvTfxm8doDXLLvsWzp-gLRKbJ1tMlP8tZEnJjyIksXQ/edit#gid=0 . Simply add a comment on each material and I will add it later.
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you so much!

There is a LOT of what is in Altera that only makes sense if you've read the other four books in the Oolite saga.

Ragazza is a word that the Thargoids use to describe Rebekah Tiley/Weston. The other books are available on Drew's site as well.

Ragazza is a common Italian word. It's interesting that Drew uses Greek, Latin and Italian wordsi a jolly mix.

I pondered a bit about the 'Good Luck, And .. Right On, Commander.', read backwards options. On option is to interpret the '...' as Morse code 'S'.
This gives (backwards): C, ORSA, LG.

ORSA is an Italian version of Ursa (Bear, female), like in the constellations 'Orsa Maggiore' or 'Orsa Minore'.

Most Alliance, sentral systems are in Ursa major. Polaris is in Ursa minor. Could it be something we have overlooked, that would give a better line that the RR?

Folks, I will be on the #Reddit #Ama tomorrow from 7pm (6pm GMT/UTC/Game Time). I will post a specific link up once it is available.

Excellent work in consolidating all the info by the way, it should serve you well...

Cheers,

Drew.

It just means that Drew is driving a Vauxhall Corsa with Liquid petroleum Gas.

I think I'll still be asleep at that time :(

I just have one question for Drew: Are all the clues we need already in the game waiting for us, or are we supposed to be waiting for further clues to be added as the story unfolds?

You touched on something on the Dogg & Toad podcast that had been rattling around in my head for a while already - in that, CMDRs were expected to find a clue to a place, fly to that place to get the next clue, and so on. I think the comment was a generalisation regarding FDs expectations - however I'd love to know if that is what we are expected to be doing here.

As far as I'm aware, flying to any place connected to this mystery hasn't turned up any leads to date. (Except recognition of some significance behind the Prism system naming, and a few connections between the places Kahina visited before her personality change ;))

If we could get some clarity on the above, that might encourage us to turn everything over again and look a little closer :)

I've tried asking that question myself in leading ways so if there's a chance at getting an answer could somebody please ask that question (I can't make the AMA either).

I'm not sure how much latitude Drew would have but my 2nd question would be:

"Is the fact that local Galnet articles are missing from last year a hindrance to following the trail"

I did some calculations some time back and came up with ca. plus/minus 25ly difference at a distance of 10000ly, so not that much. In my calculations I have only varied the X and Z coordinates by 0.01ly. Checking with the exact coordinates and varied Y coordinate wouldn't hurt (don't have them handy, sorry). That said... most people consider RR line as a general direction only. Shouldn't stop you from having fun with your own theories though :)

Your are right ofc, the line itself would not differ that much. But any intersection with another given line, gave me a huge difference for even the slightest change in the numbers. That's what I was messing around with. I am as well not convinced that the line is pointing directly to the "place", but I guess that is the whole fun. Forming a theory and then go out there to be proven wrong :)
Thanks for your answer tho!

Would you say most of the systems along the RR-line have been checked already? Or is it still worth a shot?

.
Long shot, but maybe X= 6900, Y= 4600 co-ordinates? [wacko]

Sadly, I'll be deep in slumber during the AMA thanks to working nights and weekends.

My only question would be this: "Many of the Rifters have placed a lot of emphasis on the possibility that the phrase 'Good Luck, and ... Right on, Commander' has some hidden meaning. People have focused on the space before the ellipsis and the capitalization of the word 'Commander'. It comes up all the time in the Formidine Rift threads when someone thinks they've finally figured out the 'hidden code'. Given that you end your Oolite Saga books with a letter to the readers that ends with, 'Right on, Commanders' I see this phrase as being addressed to us, the readers, as well as to Kahina. Are you willing to put a nail in this one? A lot of energy being directed at deciphering this phrase could certainly be put to use elsewhere."

It is a little bit of both, with the emphasis towards the later at this point. Story resources at FD are very limited, and there are checks and balances that need to be negotiated with the result that things don't move forward as fast as ideal.

Cheers,

Drew.

I mentioned before that analysis of spoken dialogue from the books, galnet and in-game is fraught with danger. Dialogue is, by its nature, imprecise, unless specific directions are being given. The characters will have dialects, inflection, pace and tone. Bear in mind that this is a story, and the characters have their own agendas, they are not mouthpieces for definitive statements, you must sift and weigh what they say.

"Right on, Commander" is a phrase from the original 1984 game which was awarded to the player every 256 kills and thus looms large in Elite lore. However in the above case, the intention was to indicate the character is drawing a breath, rather than concealing some cryptographic secret.

Cheers,

Drew.

And for those who are not able to join the AMA due to time-zones, please post your questions when you can. I will answer all questions over the next few days and recheck the thread to make sure I cover all of them.

Drew.

Nice! Thanks Drew! I'll be sure to check it out ... and thanks for answering the ROC question!

Sky high edifices of tin foil have come crashing down!

It's a good thing. Only disappointment waits at the bottom of many rabbitholes. For the moment it gives us a little longer to prepare and tweak our ships to be ready for whatever's coming so no big rush.
