Then why did they up the difficulty NOW instead of when that patch drops?
Because game is so complex that it is done in stages. One of ship designers Mike Evans have even said that he didn't want to see big ships added to the game till this point - for obvious reasons - because their role is NOT best trading or best fighting ship. It is a way more complex than that.

Only this season we might see combat at it's full extend how it was envisioned around Kickstarter. Either you cry and kick and scream and demand toys back, or you just suck it up, report issues you find, and take a seat for long ride.

Yep. Still waiting for the prophecied demise of Elite Dangerous that was all over the forums before the general release in December 2014.

It's a bit like all the 'end of the world' prophecies. One day one of them may turn out to be correct, but so far its all been a lot of screaming and fearmongering, with no visible result. Then the next one comes along.
Ha ha, thankfully it's all just hot air.
tbf to FD it does appear that they do make post update tweaks to iron out kinks and the more extreme imbalances that come to light. This removes the need for an ED apocalypse

There were a few instances when they payouts were awful. I started when no anacondas or any large ships spawned I any res sites and had the time of my life handing in high thousaned, low tens of thousand bounties. It was months before larger ships started appearing again.

Now? People are so used to and hooked on stupid AI with fat bounties it's like a parent has come along, taken one of about nineteen toys out of the cot and people are flipping the heck out.

Yeah, I went through that as well. Back when I and my mates started, we were chasing Anaconda's in a wing before wings were actually availible. So we'd take turns in getting the last 15% damage to spread the bounties out. We were in Eagles and Vipers.

That's how we "Got Good" lol.

This patch was made in full open play thinking and for that i agree this is perfect fit but dno for you but my friends are not always online to make a wing so when going private group or solo that's where i think casual players or farmers are getting hard time.

Because the AI was always going to get better. You understand that question sounds like a petulantly child demanding to have their toys back, right?

Guess what. Bounty hunting has gone through a number of peaks and troughs. This is nothing special in that respect. Only that it's the first time the AI will defend itself.
Bounty hunting is fine. The AI is perfectly levelled in my eyes. Entering combat on your terms helps give you the edge. However, when you are interdicted and your shields are taken down in 5 seconds and the NPC is behind you in a fast ship that is difficult to escape from, that is much more difficult.

And yet again... I choose nothing, in fact I choose that they leave me alone! They want me, they jump me, they cut me a new a.. err... ear! You guys are hunting them WANTING the abuse, I want to trade and do missions in peace without a T2000 type ship that regens itself, farts chaff, never runs out of ammo and eats babies chasing me in and out of SC. AND NO... THERE IS NO FRIENDS IN SOLO TO HELP ME! (before one of you says it again... and again.. and again!). :(

You still have friends in Solo...

From my limited experience so far, I'd recommend looking at hauling in places with better system security. I've been interdicted 5 times so far, and on 3 of those occasions local system security turned up and helped me claim a bounty. :)

The very fact that this thread has run to - at current count - 143 pages in such a short time tells us much.

For my part I was taken down from a well kitted out Anaconda to a Sidewinder and a few thousand credits before I clocked the new realities. (Am I slow on the uptake? The evidence seems to point that way. Spare me your vitriol.) I'm not happy about this but I'll recover (I think). And in a strange kind of way I relish it. But one thing angers me and it's something that has always angered me about Frontier Development and their awful boss, David Braben.

They simply don't want to talk to you. They could have made an announcement...."hey guys we've beefed up the AI considerably so bring fresh underwear"......but no, they let us find out the hard way. Oh, btw, don't point to some forum thread where it was all stated clearly. Some of us have lives to live and we're just not going to read every damn thread. They should have made an ANNOUNCEMENT. Do you see?

Frontier has been saying since the dawn of time itself that AI will get better. They made a point of staying the AI this update would be better. They streamed it. Sent email. You name it.

This was always coming. It's not a secret. What the heck are people going to do when thargoids arrive, DEMAND Braben make them stupid and incapable of defending themselves because omg to hard and mean and un-fun.

Has it not occurred to people yet there might actually be a reason they are increasing AI now?

Wow. Just wow.

What are you flying?

Please don't say a Type-6 with D-rated shields.

I am not far into the game, so I just traded in my default Sidewinder (which I had upgraded a bit) for an Adder because that was the recommended ship for exploration in one guide I read. Regardless of what type of ship, it doesn't seem like good game mechanics to have it explode at random. Maybe if it were balanced somehow (you get 30% more profits but have a 30% chance of failing by default) it would make more sense. Otherwise, why have the ship in the game at all if it is not usable?

Yeah your right took a lot of time but i classify myself like in the middle range maybe little less than the elite dangerous evolution gives to player and now just dno if i'll be able to give the time that now is taking to make that money and i'll not be doing trading even if it's the only way left to get a lot of money.Yeah it was easy farming but can we have a balance in that ? keep the ia cuz challenge is good and add a lot of thinking and strategy in the combat situations but can do they pay more at least... or make other jobs bit more lucrative what do you think ?

Trust me, I've been frustrated and taken time off too. It's always up and down. But in this particular instance everything is just as viable as it ever was. Unlike Bounty hunting Pre-Horizons... jeeeezus.... Anyone remember the Instance swapping saga's?...

Don't know if this has been posted in the thread but Cmdr Hooch just did an excellent video showing that, no the AI is not too hard..

He takes on a Haz Res with a sidewinder..

Big respect to the guy but its faulty logic right? You automatically think sidewinder + Hazrez = maximum difficulty but it isn't, HazREZ are safe if you don't carry bait because you can pick and choose your fights and a sidewinder is a safe choice because its rotates so fast you can sit behind a slow ship forever if your a competant pilot, i mean look at the video the guys sitting in the blind spot of a dropship at like 10x playback speed for a minute ;)

Now he should do the opposite, take an unturreted large (python/conda/cutter/corv) into a low-REZ with a bait bar it won't look anything like as easy despite it being the "easier" zone

Is there any group you haven't assumed on behalf of yet. I'm having difficulty keeping count. :)

Because mostly I am reading lots of people assuming lots of things and not a lot of the supposedly affected people piling in to have a nice whine about the situation. Maybe you should, I don't know, ask them?

I have asked...several times. So far the answers are less than inspiring with most of them being simply "git gud" style comments, while others have been downright nasty. So what advice would you give a 2 week old player facing a sheer cliff face wall of grind just to stay alive? <not needed>

But why at this time? Sure it was going to get better, but why at this time? Why not wait a bit for NPC wings?

Yeah, Aisling Duval will get to be an OAP! She'll have married a lowly Commander too; an explorer type.:)
And the Empire will have got rid of slavery.[up] A lot of upset Commanders![down]
.
Did people really think prior to release of ED that it would not last a year or so?:O
Must have been a short-sighted minority.

Why would you take an unturreted large ship?
If you build a dumb ship, and get beaten, thats on you. Not the game.

No where near as bad as it was.
