Why would you take an unturreted large ship?
If you build a dumb ship, and get beaten, thats on you. Not the game.

That is my point, taking a sidewinder to a HREZ is not a good measure of difficulty, taking an unturreted large to a low-rez is also not a good measure of difficulty but if you think the AI's easy because of a bad example you have to correct it with a bad example of how its hard ;)

I am not far into the game, so I just traded in my default Sidewinder (which I had upgraded a bit) for an Adder because that was the recommended ship for exploration in one guide I read. Regardless of what type of ship, it doesn't seem like good game mechanics to have it explode at random. Maybe if it were balanced somehow (you get 30% more profits but have a 30% chance of failing by default) it would make more sense. Otherwise, why have the ship in the game at all if it is not usable?

Just a minute ago, I was teached a lesson by an NPC elite Adder (I'm in a cobraMkIII)
No idea what loadout this guy was carrying, but this tells me you 'could' make use of this Adder of yours.

I'm just so much more careful about pilot rank now!
I'm getting nervous in SC... I'd better hurry and pimp my ride!

But why at this time? Sure it was going to get better, but why at this time? Why not wait a bit for NPC wings?

Because it was time now. SJA was able to get it done now. So we now have it. Not later. The issue isn't the AI, it's the knock on effects. Want to get traction? Seek to get the knock on effects improved.

The potatoes have had enough and are fighting back. That starts at 2.1. Frontier cannot do all changes at once, it's just too much.

what should i dump for these contermeasures? cargo hold? weapons? disco? detail scanners? fuel scoop? the only things keeping me solvent atm are ability to do missions and ability to scoop fuel and ability to scan and sell data. trading hasnt covered my repair costs yet. trading rares gets me more above-my-combat-rank attention causing more damage. not being able to disco and detail removes my repain cost recovery since the bounties on the attackers (assuming i dont get saved by police by pure luck) dont cover that. i have never farmed RES and i dont go looking for bounties, i dont have kill warrant scanner to hunt since i wont carry interdictor, its just to max what i get when i do kill a pirate - to cover the repairs.

the master vipe 3 that hit me i WAS in a high security system. that why the cops saved me. if they had taken only 10 or 15 seconds more i would been an expan ding cloud of dust in a the USS they dropped into responding to my report of a crime. your advice on where to fly is worthless since i got hit where you say it was safe and survived only by chance. my asp isnt a combat ship. i should have the option of flying a general purpose loadout with a chance to survive in a fight and flee if i cant win, unless i make an error of judgement. elite with NO combat is elite with a lot of the fun gone. and sorry mods, games with no fun die. you dont pay me to play so its not my job to carry on not having fun. i have to assume from your comment you think the devs will modify the AI.

i would add one thing to that - i dont want the AI dumbed down where it was. what i want is no combat modded AI that gives me no chance at all. its been said over and over, being unable to fight OR flee, being unable to get out of range or jump away because you are dead in under a minute and cannot damage them at all is not fun. its also not showing any AI. all its showing is an AI thats good enough to get the the 3 hits to remove shields and ability to target subsystems with another 5 shots. and if they are going to target powerplants at all i suggest every repair module comes with an aux power included so it can repair at least some of the powerplant without needing it to be on to supply power!

NOTE: i made this post in answer to someone saying equip countermeasures and stick to high sec systems but it didnt quote as it should have.

Sorry, couldn't help myself.
After all the end is nigh, so maybe some levity will help. lol

At the risk of stating the obvious, saying that a thing will happen at some in the future is not the same as saying it'll happen tomorrow and that when it does it'll make your bowels loosen. Do you understand? I suspect you don't...........

I do. During beta I had my backside handed to me. It's change. Of course it's not a cake walk. But changes causes adaptation. By the end of beta they weren't a threat with upgrades, and without upgrades (I tested both) I simply got used to it and AI were becoming much more managable.

It comes down to what you are used to. The new AI? After a week I simply got used to it, and adapted to react a little more quickly.

It's barely been 48 hours and people are already deciding the solution is to make it easier again, rather than seek to have some of the knock on effects sorted.

Don't assume. It's never wise.

Stick with high secuity systems and apply counter measures to your trading ship before falling into despair. Come on, we know you can do it.

And where can I find such info offline? I was in HR 1064 (which (too me) was quite a highly populated place with a good few stations, I even had allied (green) ships on my scope, one of which was a military patrol craft or something (I wasn't looking about to much as I ran for my life), got zero NPC help, had 2 ships on me (one a deadly FAS), and it could eat a 6c bi-weave shield before I had even turned my python (set up to haul mission cargo). http://coriolis.io/outfit/python/07...4v402022f.Iw18eQ==.Aw18eQ==?bn=mission python

Something needs looked at badly imo. (And yes, my build is most likely out of date and sucks, but were not all zillionaires!). :(

There is no 'I don't know' or a 'Insufficient experience to judge' button.
Up to press it seems nothing has changed but I'll have to do lot more experiencing to come to any sensible judgement.

i agree its not just the AI is the prevalence of the high rank ones having mods that are far too overpowered for the ship they are facing. if they scale back those mods a little or just make not all high rankers have them yet, then we will see how the AI alone does.

from the outside it looks like just a few people faced really overpowered NPC, and then the rest of farmers, fastrankers etc took the chance and jumped into the 'this is insane' train waving the 'protect the newbies we never cared about' flag.

none of them are really asking for help or asking if it is a bug, they "know" FD will "close the business" if they don't "fix" whatever is broken, yet they down know how to manage pips or power, where to find an Unknown Artefact, who Palin is or how to find pristine rings without goggling them.

all I see is the same forum users every time, in a the pertinent threads:

before it was.. "oh, look at that nebulae, let's make an expedition", now it is: "why the corvette can't jump 40ly"

before it was: "hey look what I've found in this system"
now it is: "I'll wait for someone to tell me where to get the meta alloys"

before it was: "this mechanic needs balancing"
now it is: "RNG RNG RNG RNG GRINDING"

before it was: "hey, a community goal, let's make it happen!!"
now it is: "give us our huge gimballed, even if we never reached the tier"

before it was: "please, fix the AI, it is spinning and not shooting"
now it is: "fix the AI or shutdown the business"

and then comes the realisation moment, when all of them say: I'm a casual player.

Fighting a deadly Anaconda, i managed to count 6 SCB charges being used. Needless to say, that fight took far too long for the credits offered. I'm afraid i am done with bounty hunting, this proffession is dead

Why was it time now and not in the future? They could have focused more on the BB (ironing out those bugs) and focusing on the Engineers and left the AI rework to the patch that will include NPC wings, which would be controlled by AI.

Big respect to the guy but its faulty logic right? You automatically think sidewinder + Hazrez = maximum difficulty but it isn't, HazREZ are safe if you don't carry bait because you can pick and choose your fights and a sidewinder is a safe choice because its rotates so fast you can sit behind a slow ship forever if your a competant pilot, i mean look at the video the guys sitting in the blind spot of a dropship at like 10x playback speed for a minute ;)

Now he should do the opposite, take an unturreted large (python/conda/cutter/corv) into a low-REZ with a bait bar it won't look anything like as easy despite it being the "easier" zone

Oh come on.. but even if we except your argument then the Vulture, DBS, Courier, Viper, FAS and FDL, Asp Scout would own in there. I don't accept your ponit btw.. So change your ship.

The Corvette can do just fine, true its modded but these arguments about the AI being too hard are frankly ridiculous.
