I would assume that FDEV is closely watching the live stats in game. If they see that too many ships have been lost to NPCs, they will probably tone down something - preferably the NPC ship weapons, not the AI which screamed for major improvement.

It would be very unfortunate if the bad press hits them again. They can't afford that really.
rep for this.

I don't think the AI are "that" much harder then they used to be, i think it's down to the fact they have engineered ships that currently surpass what most of us have.

Once we have got our ships to the same engineered level it'll be back to swatting them like flies.
The thing about that is not everyone has or will buy the DLC and I don't think people should be forced to buy it to survive in the game they spent money on.

Still in my Conda - one C4 gimballed beam and the rest currently turreted Pulse Lasers. Will be changing to add some MCs and Missiles as these worked well in Beta against the larger ships. Even in a High Res I'm picking and choosing my targets. Able to take on individual small ships including Elite pilots. Not had a 1v1 with an Elite Conda yet. I'm not pledged to Powerplay so don't seem to suffer from countless interdictions and immediate attacks. Get scanned in a high Res and if I'm sitting there they leave me alone. I voted AI fine as it is - just don't tell SJA

.... or possibly leave the AI exactly as they are - but change the likelihood of meeting the higher ranks - if Frontier decide that anything requires to be changed. that is....

They will, of course, be looking at the stats with respect to the kill-count of MoM™'s minions - and comparing it to previously collated stats to assess the magnitude of the change.
i hope also looking at numbers of people who died a few times and then havent played since, some of whom have come here to contribute to the thread. that will also tell them something - if players are holding off even playing for now.

I really wonder what that bad press would be though. It would certainly draw attention to 2.1 and Horizons changes. An MMO who tries to do right thing with NPCs? It would make a lot of hardcore base still clinging to SC dream very interested.

As for FD - of course they will tweak things. They seem to have nailed how to collect feedback and how to react to it (they have tons of telemetry, we have zero. All we have is very fragmented reports). That's why I am surprised about threats and moans. We all know how this works. FD sets goals, they do release, they listen, they tweak and change things accordingly. They don't knee jerk.

I hope that they leave the AI exactly as they are, but make it harder to meet the really good ones unless you are elite or have a big bounty. I love the idea of the standard PvP build being taken apart by the AI. I'm not a great pilot, but I can't hit them with fixed weapons at the moment.

I had to give up trying to take down a Vulture before, FA and boost was required to keep him in view... I needed gimballs

How that's gonna help them? They aren't into behavioural manipulation business. They tweak gameplay, not player reactions.

love the new AI, now it feels more like real people flying the ships, so glad to see the biggest percentage like them too. Please dont nerf them!

Now that's what I'm talking about - single hit from Dangerous Vulture (two effect weapons?), shields drop, ship blows up - not at all a decent situation from ANY NPC AI

Have a look 0:47 hull 100% shields nearly full - 0:47 shields gone hull dropping below 50% - 0:48 boom

Yeah of course the AI is just fine, well done SJA ---- [rolleyes]

roll on 2.1.1 (Can't come soon enough)

wow just watched that video....All the people on this thread saying everything is fine or even worse the AI is easier, should watch this vid!

No matter how much i said i was going to adapt, you can'r adapt to defend that sort of game play.....!

thanks for giving me reassurance. i have been worried bout them changing the AI back too much when it seems to me the issue of the modded stuff they can have is more the problem.

I like the new AI. I really do. And I'm an awful pilot. But I like the logistical challenge I now face as a trucker.

But as I take time to look at the situation, I come to believe that the change FD made was just too drastic. It caters far too much to the top players.

FD seem to have forgotten that the top players are a minority. Pair this with the fact a lot of (less skilled) people were able to farm their way to Elite combat rank, meaning they now have the hardest NPC's to fight, and boom. Lots of unhappy players who have no idea what they need to do.

I propose a one-time combat rank reset. All the way down to harmless. If one so chooses of course. This will at least make NPC interactions much more manageable. I play in Solo, and thanks to my lowly Competent rank, I only seem to get interdicted by lower level NPC's.

In any case, based of reaction on this forum, I personally wouldn't be surprised by an NPC nerf. I think the risk to the player base as things stand, is too high a risk.

I like the new AI, but a lot of people don't.

While I'm here, can I make a plea to people to stop it with the "git gud" posts? It's grossly toxic behaviour, and only makes you look like a jerk saying it.

Exactly. They've done very good job with new AI. If they see that players are dying to NPCs like there's no tomorrow, there are other ways to deal with this potential issue without touching AI.

Seriously?

You mean they didn't already understand the magnitude of the change they implemented when they implemented it?

I'm struggling to believe that even FD are that bad at doing what they do. But perhaps I didn't fully comprehend your meaning. Feel free to clarify.

Only players who had access to Beta had the opportunity to play against the various Beta iterations of AI. Beta 6 didn't last very long. Now Frontier have unleashed MoM™'s modified minions onto the whole player-base - players who may have no access to Engineers (XB1 at the moment, Mac, PC who have not bought Horizons) and even for those who have bought Horizons, no access to "modifications for fish" acceleration to the higher levels of modifications.

To fully assess the impact of the New AI (with Engineered modifications) on the player-base, it had to be implemented in the live game. I don't see how it could be tested any other way....

If I leave a mining planet and get jumped by Mr Instakill once, then OK, it was my unlucky day, but if I leave a mining planet filled with painite and get jumped again, it's coincidence. The third consecutive time or the 4th, NO, its a bug or the game's AI is set too high. Trading and mining are 2 of the game's only other ways to make credits beside bounty hunting or waiting at RES points to jump a pirate or the like at a NAV station. Take away half the game's income possibilities (oh and exploration, which is slower) and you got a busted game.

What does Mr Braben think of his Sandbox game now?

I have to say that the AI is now challenging and this alone has made the game better for me, I was playing on and off each session being no longer than 30 - 40 .. If I wanted to bounty hunt at a RES I would just head on in to one and shoot ships without even having to look at who or what I was attacking .. shields never dropping..

Now I have to pick my fights, know when to run (Always having a destination set for high waking) and now I can't wait to load up the game and when I do I can't get off it (although I have to take breaks as my computer runs a tad too hot while playing ED)

if there isn't a challenge in a game, I don't see the point in playing.

This^^^

I vote other. I think there should be an option for "Too Annoying".

I don't mind getting abit of right hand exercise by janking the stick around abit more, but I want credits not tendonitis.
Also I'd like a better way to indentify the threat lvl of the enemy. The Elite ranking system is not good. A Dangerous npc can be a real pain whereas an Elite can be a complete pushover - it's all about what weapons they use and now also what mods and upgrades they have. How about triple or quadruple bounty on modded npc - something that makes you go "Oooooh, look at that bounty - this could be a though nut to crack".

Bottom line is, I like the new and improved AI but I don't want it all the time - if that makes sense?
