That'll only last until the game gets bad press for pushing too many players out.

Or the game could increase its player base population if the word gets out that this is a fun and challenging game...with AI that is probably a better test of skill than 99% of the games out now.

Two very well respected and hardcore sim/games, both going great guns and still being built upon after all these years.
Still fire then up when I can tear myself away from ED.

HAZZAH!!!

tried ARMA 3 and didnt like it. i uninstalled it now. i did like elite though the learning curve in this one was way harder than the original. plus more to lose on death which can inhibit some play. but i wouldnt want to be starting right now if im honest.

People complaining that they get wrecked worked great for the Souls Series :D

Don't bet on it. The hardcore gamers are all playing Overwatch right now.

It just feels like FDev is the kind of Dungeon Master who thinks the game is about killing their players as fast as possible.

The AI needed an upgrade, no doubt about that, but it was too much, especially when giving them superweapons on top of it.

Not true at all. I am a casual player who finds the AI to be just right. I have several friends who play the game that fit into the same category.
That's my point. 'Time poor' casual vs. 'capability' casual. There will be people who will want to play combat but will be incapable of doing so. Those people will be truly frustrated...and will probably leave.

Truth is the AI is harder, anyone saying different is fooling not the forum, but themselves. Anyone with a modicum of sense can see the AI is better able to fight.

If you love the game like i do, then you will adapt your game style to deal with it. If you can't or won't adapt, you will struggle with this game.

Personally i hope you all adapt, as it will be a worse off game if we lose numbers.

I don't think the AI are "that" much harder then they used to be, i think it's down to the fact they have engineered ships that currently surpass what most of us have.

Once we have got our ships to the same engineered level it'll be back to swatting them like flies.

how much did they really lose on dying? weeks or months of grinding? facing more to get the ship back they had if they didnt have rebuy the second time after a no win combat situation twice in a row?
There are always people who take what they lose very serious even tough theres no reason to. Souls come and go, credits come and go, it isn't a big deal in the End (as long as you always fly with insurance)

And they are replaced by players that want that sort of game? Oh look, another "ED is doomed but I have no facts to back it up" post. ;)
I'm not a casual player in the context of playing time (1900 hours or so), but combat-wise I'm Master 72% which is about right as what I lack in pure combat skills I make up with strategic skills and I have never pushed my combat rank purely for the sake of the rank. Can I out-fight that Elite FDL (1/4) that interdicts my Cutter? No, but I can be all set to get out of there before we even drop out of SC.

I would not bet on it...

More likely to attract players, in my opinion.

Then that is not the fault of the AI, that is the fault of the player. My point is that casual players can get good enough to take on AI opponents in combat......they just shouldn't expect the "fish in the barrel" scenario they got pre-2.1. If their combat ranks are currently artificially elevated, then they should ask Support to take them down 1 or 2 levels. Or do what I did and delete their saves to start from scratch.

please dont assume everyone will be happy to go dying multiple times mining just to get mats for another ship they need modded merely to survive. im not going to do mining because i cant afford the constant rebuys it will entail just for mats. and i have no space in any of my ships for an srv unless i make them even less likely to survive an interdiction. so no mats there either. i play in solo to avoid the idiot pkers and now i have npc griefers, so now i have the best of both worlds - but a marginally higher chance of surviving in solo now instead of much better chance to actually play and enjoy it. but zero chance in either now to get any mods. unless the mats miraculously appear in uss and no ships do while im trying to collect them.

'too many' is the real issue here. A few hundred, or thousand, leaving is not much...particularly from the left hand side of the curve. Just like a lot of people from the right hand side of the curve have already left. This is called finding a market. As long as the devs do not cut to deeply into the median of the game...it will be just fine!
