Seriously?

You mean they didn't already understand the magnitude of the change they implemented when they implemented it?

I'm struggling to believe that even FD are that bad at doing what they do. But perhaps I didn't fully comprehend your meaning. Feel free to clarify.
Ohh they understood it well. That's why beta didn't see actual NPC AI nerfs, only improvements. However it doesn't rule out tweaking game as they go post update release. But "tweak" is a key word here. NPC AI is gonna stay - and many people get a drift that most likely outfitting is to blame, not AI itself. Outfitting however can be changed and tweaked without restarting any of server or client systems.

Just hauled a hull load of meta-alloys from Maia to Farseer Inc.
A single interdiction from a Fed Agent (I'm pledged) who promptly ignored me.

Yeah tough game guys.

How that's gonna help them? They aren't into behavioural manipulation business. They tweak gameplay, not player reactions.
because if more people stop playing since the update than usual but have not left the game, it shows them for sure they need to adjust something. it adds to the overall picture.

I went to a HighRES site last night and struggled with killing a Diamondback Explorer lol. It's very hard now. But I kinda like it. :) Dialing down the AI would be foolish as there are Engineers now that mods your ship to make things easier.

I voted Just Right, as it isn't *too* hard yet. But it certainly is harder. :) Wait a few weeks to see how players react. New stuff is new. People need to use a different approach to killing NPCs.

Hazardous resource zones seem challenging but not impossible. The AI is closer to how it should be. NPC rank now means something and players have to weigh up the risks. Taking on any wing, even a couple of eagles is to be taken seriously. Great stuff.

wow just watched that video....All the people on this thread saying everything is fine or even worse the AI is easier, should watch this vid!

No matter how much i said i was going to adapt, you can'r adapt to defend that sort of game play.....!
I watched the video, and there are several things people are misunderstanding.
1. It wasn't the Vulture that killed him.
2. He had 1 pip in his shield.
3. By the amount of things hitting his shield he was attacked by 2-3 enemies at once.
4. He probably was running light weight paper armor.
Now should you die that fast, probably not, but there is a bunch of stuff going on off screen we can't see.

I have to say that the AI is now challenging and this alone has made the game better for me, I was playing on and off each session being no longer than 30 - 40 .. If I wanted to bounty hunt at a RES I would just head on in to one and shoot ships without even having to look at who or what I was attacking .. shields never dropping..

Now I have to pick my fights, know when to run (Always having a destination set for high waking) and now I can't wait to load up the game and when I do I can't get off it (although I have to take breaks as my computer runs a tad too hot while playing ED)

if there isn't a challenge in a game, I don't see the point in playing.

Agreed. After my first meeting with the new AI yesterday I can only say that the game has become a LOT more interesting now especially when I have to look at the radar once in a while when scavenging. I love it!

Only players who had access to Beta had the opportunity to play against the various Beta iterations of AI. Beta 6 didn't last very long. Now Frontier have unleashed MoM™'s modified minions onto the whole player-base - players who may have no access to Engineers (XB1 at the moment, Mac, PC who have not bought Horizons) and even for those who have bought Horizons, no access to "modifications for fish" acceleration to the higher levels of modifications.

To fully assess the impact of the New AI (with Engineered modifications) on the player-base, it had to be implemented in the live game. I don't see how it could be tested any other way....
So in other words, to stay on par we will have to use the engineered modifications, just to survive. With all the current nonsense (my opinion) mechanic to get them. Thanks, but no thanks.

Hopefully, this is something they will rethink for the future: beta builds should be freely accessible to everyone who purchased the game. They can get much better feedback when more players are involved. Size of the current beta test playerbase is relatively small, and those people are most likely above the average player regarding their skills; which might lead to somewhat warped picture during the beta testing.

I will agree: A lot of the reason I come off as particularly surly is because of the MOBA/FPS "git gud" crowd, hence my post on the matter some days ago.

The best way to solve the AI issue is, in my opinion, simply to restrict modded weapons to Elite and Deadly ranked NPCs, which only appear in HazRES and High Intensity CZs. HazRES can't have max level mods in high security, but max mods will be found in High Intensity CZs. Interdiction NPCs do not scale with combat rank, but scale with security. Elite to Dangerous interdiction NPCs only appear in Anarchy systems with a population greater than 100,000, and yes, they can be modded out, too.

Then we have challenge for people who want it, and the rest of us can play in peace. It also stops explorers from getting exploded after a lengthy trip into the black.

You don't need modifications, I spend many hours in beta now in live build with non modded ships without dying.

there seem to be some weird stuff going on, that video with the python that goes down in seconds shows it can be way to extrem, alltough not sure how common that is. Never experienced anything like that myself.

Since my thread on this topic was locked due to the massive number of threads about this and the mods suggested the discussion continue here I'll leave this video here.

After hearing all the complaints I took a combat fit sidewinder to a Haz RES to see if I could survive until I ran out of Ammo. I chose a sidewinder because I wanted a combat capable ship that also had paper thin shields and hull. I found the AI challenging, but not overly difficult. I'm having to pay close attention to what I'm doing now and stay on my toes, although I am a little disappointed that I wasn't having the OH DEAR GOD ITS TOO HARD experience that most other commanders in far more capable ships are having.

And to anyone who wants to get on me for saying Get Good at the end of the video I really prefer not to use that phrase when being serious, but I honestly feel this to be an exception to the rule.

Also to anyone saying well what about us traders, explorers, and other non combat profession pilots who don't like combat? I answer with this: I AM A TRADER.... I was just raised by a Navy Fighter Pilot that flew Grumman F6F Hellcats against the Japanese in WWII... so on second thought maybe I'm not the best person to talk to on that note.

so basically dont play trader or explorer or miner play combat only now?

I spend most of my time trading, smuggling, mission running and general bouncing from USS to USS to see what the box of chocolates are like. I don't spend a huge time in combat as my rating of Master shows, I've had no problems so far.
