Fed Up

LOL. ED isn't just going to roll over and die - no matter how many people say it will. They have been saying that since before the release, and it's STILL here :)

No one is really saying that save a few people trying to get attention. All most people are saying is that there are issues with this release that are frankly a bit ridiculous and should never have made it to a live version, and I tend to agree. The AI isnt even the issue, it's that we play with the harder AI thinking "okay this will be different" and instead we get a bug that destroys us in 5 seconds. I know I can't kill an NPC in five seconds, why should they be able to? People think this is the "new norm" when clearly something is not working as intended.

You are right but big whiners are listened to more than other players, an example is the fact now police pops in quickly to kill wanted ships, this one was asked for some time ago by big whiner traders who complained they were attacked and no police would come in to defend them, now they got what they wanted, more protection even from assaults, I noticed this yesterday and today doing assassination missions, now you are likely to see law enforcement spawn while you are fighting target, I had to suddenly learn to kill quickly and jump away or police will start shooting, sometimes my hull is reduced to 10 percent during a fight cause of the police interfering all the time, even if you only see 1,2 police ships in sc, the police ships spawning on you will be at least 4.

See ? Now they have their protection but ironically they also got psychopath enemies to escape from LOL, I love it

The police actually are technically competent at their job now. That's not whining, that's development.

You go Flash!!
Preach it!

Actually, I prolly don't fit in these forums.

I'm normally drunk and I can barely read. My replies are simply based upon the avatar or the OP.
Having said that, the only reason I replied positively was because your avatar takes off one pair off glasses and has another pair on already.

I've watched it for about 8 minutes and he still hasn't run out of glasses!!
Witchcraft!!

his previous avatar built a railroad track for hours!

i personally hate modern game development... i hate that players have feedback... i want it back when an artist had a vision and made their vision and if i liked it great if i didn't go play something else.

because all this whining just makes every game the same... there was a forum post saying that this game would be great if it was a bit more like eve... I hate eve I want elite. i love this patch it fixed so many things about this game... they should have done one - two more weeks of beta just focusing on actual bugs not mechanics but thats over with

i agree with OP... if you don't like where elite has gone NMS well be a great game for you, maybe... everyone just wants to complain about something, and now im complaining about that!

Rep to the OP.

I'm having a blast in 2.1. It's got me trying stuff I normally wouldn't. I understand some of the concerns but over all a great up date.

OP is contributing to the very phenomenom he is describing. In the words of the wise Tarman...

...mr. Flash_Baggins has become the actor for the role of 'I hate what forums become after patch' -guy :)

Complaining about all the complaining, huh? :D
Nonetheless, he has a point. :D

What's my role? xD

@Flash_Baggins: No rep atm ._. take a virtual rep :D

Yes but they are too quick to spawn, it breaks the realism in my opinion, I wonder how on Earth they find the place this quickly and how it is possible there are more ships on you than the ones available in sc , they should fix this, there should be no immediate response, ships spawning in less than 1 minute is too quick

I think if loads of people are complaining, it may indicate something's wrong. Seems odd to disregard the complaints.

However I agree in that there seems to be a lot of anger and frustration floating around, which doesn't help when you're trying to discuss something - regardless of which side you're on.
My frustration comes from the inequity in the system...(I have a Mac for my work and various other reasons) I don't have access to Horizons 2.1 yet I am subjected to engineered weapons in 1.6... there is no way for me to improve my technology to combat the arms race that is occurring. I don't have a problem with improved A.I. when it comes to behavior but giving A.I. hardware that I have no access to hence no ability to defend against seems to be a purposeful personal slight to those of us in 1.6

Wow, I haven't played the game since January this year. I'm not a combat commander, and thought I would have some fun with a low conflict zone in a viper. the first time I got in and selected a side I was blown up in 2 mins. I kept going back and man it was tough considering my combat is novice. This isn't a complaint, now the next time I play I may need to do some other combat stuff and workout the best ship for my type of combat style. I don't joust in combat I strafe and turn flight assist off and on. But it is tougher then it was last time I played it. which it good in my opinion.

What kind of system are you in? Security level matters now.

I use the complaint threads to scout people to put on my ignore list. It's not that they complain, it's not that I disagree. It's when they try to be diplomatic but use words like "obviously", "truth" "well if you can't that's because..." or any other word/phrase that assumes an objective vantage point (that belittles the one they're arguing with intentionally or otherwise) that I get irritated. The best you can get is a logically ascertained premise, not "truth". Or "I agree with your point but you could have used this word instead of that word to spare my feelings" nitpicking. I have to admit most people on my ignore list are carebears but it isn't because they're carebears, it's because they sound like entitled, selfish rich kids.

If you're too stupid to see the truth, obviously you don't know what you're doing.

I agree with the OP but I do think they'll end up toning the AI down a bit.

Wish I could play the beta with over 150$ sunk into this game. Have no idea what 2.1 is like and these people who wine and cry about does nothing but sour it for people like me that are unworthy of beta access. It'd be nice to see a bit of flippin positivity instead of everyone being as sour as Margaret thatcher's <inappropriate and anatomically incorrect :)>.

Also very disappointed you weren't making a federation pun with the thread name.

I'll second the broad thrust of the OP's feelings. 2.1 seems to me to be chock-full of new things, and so I'm giving it at least a week before I come to any firm conclusions - thus far I am impressed and happy.

Sure the Engineers are the headline item, but the whole of space now feels a whole lot more alive, and I very much like the variety in how the missions play-out.

This feels a big enough update to ED that some time spent acclimatising seems more advantageous than jumping to conclusions.

To put into context, I was doing a bit of trading in civilised space earlier today - not a mission - and got pulled out of SC by a bounderous scoundrel from SJA's army of minions, flying a FdL. I was in my Python with turrets (I'm a dreadful pilot), the minion was reasonably combat ranked, and so I thought 'well let's see'...

The first thing I noticed was how aggressive 'he' was as we started trading blows. The next thing I noticed was the very prompt arrival of security ships, coming to my aid, and soon their pinprick weapons were darting and dancing around me. Then the FdL started ramming me... my jaw nearly hit the deck!

The last thing I noticed was the 180K bounty reward when he went 'pop', and only then did I notice that I was down to 5% with no canopy.

Fan-flipping-tas-tic - I loved every second of it!

Poor ED.....didn't he get enough biscuits during the 7.5 hour livestream?? [haha]

Actually there is another way to look at criticisms of the game and Ed mentioned it on the Livestream.....it shows that people on both sides of the divide are passionate about the game.
At least it is not as bad as the 'Bottom half of the internet' (Dave Gorman)......I'm looking at you YouTube and Twitter Trolls :D

Only negative is E: D (not ED) has taken over my life since I started piloting my ship round the bubble this year.

Within only 48 hours of the 2.1 release, most of the forums is just choc-a-block with people complaining about how 2.1 has ruined their game, its become too hard and they cant make millions of credits by long range smuggling and that their favourite ship has been nerfed to death blah blah blah etc. etc.

Im fed up of people posting negative criticism of what has happened and generally making these forums like the world of tanks forums. COME ON! The Elite community is one of the greatest gaming communities I have been privileged to be a part of, and I know that we are better than this! These threads continually complaining about new game mechanics or how things have become harder make the FDev team feel like their efforts are wasted, and generally make the forums a worse place to be.

Now, Im not saying 2.1 is perfect, it has got plenty of problems in it, but when we criticise something, at least make it positive criticism. Make a few suggestions as to what would be better- I know some people do, but it would be good if everyone made an effort to actually try and contribute a useful suggestion for something they feel could be improved upon. Be polite- it only ruins someones day when people pooh pooh someones hard work- I know this from personal experience, but when someone criticises what I have done, then gives a suggestion on how to improve it, it lets me know what people think can be made better.

Someone else made a thread how this has become the fall of the forums, to be honest they are correct, unless people stop to think about how they say something before they say it. But think about how hard FD worked in order to get this update out, and be considerate to them when posting about things you personally dont like.

I agree to an extent, but you're missing something massive that I didn't see you mention...

This game was kickstarted - which will show a MAJOR ownership (in the minds of people who backed) to the community. Not only that, but when it all started there was a group that specifically talked about and suggested/reported ideas to the developers. It was a privileged group that I once heard the Lave Radio guys talk about and that group was closed (can't remember the name of it for the life of me) by FD.

This game was supposed to be fueled by the community- so more than any other forum out there the "complaining" you here is likely done by people (like me) who have thousands of hours (over 3,000 personally) invested in a game that they played a certain way for over a year and a half... which is their right.

What would happen in GTA5 if all of the sudden you got 5-stars, merryweather, and tanks for hitting a pedestrian in your car?

What would happen in CRYSIS 3 if you suddenly couldn't regen your stealth suit energy and had to pick it up or no longer had your bow?

People are upset because regardless of who wanted more challenging opponents and who didn't, who's income was crushed and who's wasn't... the game was changed drastically. Not upgraded or bug-fixed - but the entire game (that some people knew) is nothing like what people have paid over $60 for now twice. That is something disrespectful, unappreciative of the money we've spent, and inconsiderate of every single player's wishes by not giving a poll to see how many people actually wanted defcon 5 AI and even more grinding. By doing this the way they did (considering the beta forums looked exactly like this for weeks already), they brought this on themselves.

The lead designer of the AI only ever replied to the people in beta who wanted tougher AI which she obviously wanted an opportunity to show her awesomeness to all those very same people who'd complained in the past that the AI sucked so bad. Is it rude to blatantly disrespect the people I saw comment that literally only had one arm and now couldn't defeat anyone? The people who were 25 when they played the first Elite (30 years ago) and couldn't possibly keep up with the new AI due to their age, sight, etc? That alone was a direct show of how much "the community" is considered in their game that was made because said community made it so with their money.

So who is rude? The people who did that, or the people who paid for something that has changed now to the point where it's completely unenjoyable for 75% of the people playing it?

To finish my two-cents, I do agree that people are quite unappreciative jerks when it comes to how they present their opinions. But as a parent I've learned to read between the lines and see that some people aren't trying to be jerks... they just feel so strongly about a game (which is actually a compliment) that they feel betrayed, hurt, and abandoned when things like this are done to them.

That, is how I feel and indeed a suggestion on how to correct it... actually ask the children how they're feeling- it'll let them know you care. And not something that has to be done during one certain hour (or even 8 certain hours) of a live stream where your questions are ignored if they aren't one someone wants to answer. Make a poll that's done like the ship buy-back that forces all players to make one multiple choice answer one time with one of the choices being "unbiased/no comment/ N/A".

Im glad people enjoy my avatars :D

"Forum war...forum war never changes.

In the year 1984, my gaming predecessors, struggling with underpowered hardware, wondered when they'd get to see a new vision of Elite. They got their wish thirty years later, when Frontier Development released an incomplete and experimental Elite Dangerous on an unsuspecting world.

The Internet awaited Armageddon; instead, something miraculous happened. We began to use the Frontier forums not as a weapon, but as a nearly limitless source of positive energy.

Players enjoyed luxuries once thought the realm of science fiction. Detailed ships, endless expanses of hostile space, a galaxy 400 billion star systems wide. But then, in the 2016, people awoke from the Frontier dream.

Years of development lead to shortages in every major goodwill resource. The entire forum world unraveled. Peace became a distant memory. It is now the same year. We stand on the brink of total forum war, and I am afraid. For myself, for my fellow players, for my community - because if my time in Elite Dangerous taught me one thing: it's that forum war, forum war never changes."

(With apologies to Fallout 4)
This is beautiful. All that needs to be said

Is "sweep it under the carpet and hope it goes away" how FD should best deal with this? Should I tell the cook the chicken dish was great even though it was raw?............should I just shut my mouth?......if his firm folds in a few months because word got out and people stopped going, did I really do him a favour by keeping quiet?.............is saying Please don't be displeased to someone who is displeased even reasonable?........
Im not saying to stop complaining and giving feedback, Im saying people should be considerate when giving feedback, give suggestions if applicable and appreciate the work that FD has already done, as it seems to get buried in negativity

Maybe it is, but you can certainly see the change from what the forums here were from a month ago and today. These forums are generally a lot better than other ones as far as my experience goes

You should have been here when it was alpha ... It was heaven compared to even when its 'nice' now.

It all went downhill when Premium Beta started, not really surprised, and neither should anyone else.

The main thing is that FD dont listen to abject whiners and make the game they want to make. Sure things need to be tweaked and adjusted here and there after feedback, but the general cry babies need to just stop , or go somewhere else.
