Engineers Missions based on states... or not?

So I spent the better part of yesterday trying out this new glorious mission system and what I found was that I had an extremely hard time finding combat missions. In my experience, I think the main problem is, this patch put a huge amount of factions into a boom state, which means tons of mining and hauling missions. The other problem was, the war state doesn't seem to be generating combat missions and if there are any factions in boom state, their missions take priority, even if the faction at war owns the station. There does also seem to be a bug where the galaxy map is reporting systems in the war state, but the system map says different.

When I finally did find a couple combat missions, all that was available were kill x skimmer missions. What happened to all the space combat missions? Has anyone figured this out? Because so far, this Mercenary thing isn't working out for me under these new mechanics and I had just traded my Python for a FAS since it was a glacier the AI flew circles around. I'm really hoping it's not back to RES farming.

Dunno have made 10s of millions of credits doing combat missions for one faction, which was at war with the main faction. Main faction had no missions though.

Try searching out a Military outpost/surface base, I found whole bulletin boards full of combat missions (assassinations, kill pirates, etc.) there during Beta. Haven't had a chance yet to try it in 2.1 release.

I'll give it a try. Hopefully, this bubble wide boom doesn't botch that as well.

Edit for pics: Wow. Yes, that's the sort of thing I'm looking for!

Where? Give me an idea of the state of that faction and where it's located.

Perhaps I should have worded it in a more whiny fashion to warrant more community responses. Seems to work well. FeelsBadMan [cry]

Yes, combat missions are very rare, I registered too.
I didn't see any the last days and I was in a lot of different stations and jumped about 1000Ly back and forth the last 4 days.
I guess it's because you will loose your ship in most fights, regarding today's NPC combat style and force... [knocked out] FDevs know about... [yesnod]

Here is a tip, combat missions are available where there is state of war.

Hunting pirates is available in.... where there is low security zone...

You gotta get friendly with factions to open more missions...

Anarchy system have gangs who might send you to exterminate security, traders, other factions...

It actually works much better in 2.1. youre just looking at the wrong places.

Did you see the part where I was going to systems with the War State?

Thats a problem I've been having. The galaxy map shows a system in a state of war, but noone in the system is showing up as actually being in a state of war. And a lot of the times, in these 'fake war' states, I find conflict zones full of combatants not shooting at each other.

Methinks something is borked.

I think mission types may depend on system industry as well as faction state. I stopped off at an outpost in a prison colony system near one of the engineers and saw lots of kill pirates and assassination missions on the board. I even came back a while later and they were still coming up.

Interesting. So there's a nice theory here, Military Outposts and Prison Colonies. It would make sense. I'll have to take a look at both once I take a break from the material grind.

In the early days of a live release, I think its always best to report anything you *think* is a bug on the Bug Report forum......even if it later turns out not to be a bug (though what you describe certainly sounds like a bug). That way you increase the chances of things getting fixed whilst they're already in the process of putting out those initial post-release patches.

Unfortunately, I am still unable to find combat missions. Pretty much every station is wanting to give me anything but combat missions. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to find Military Outposts and Prison Colonies are few and far between. Trying a low security system seemed like an option but going into the system map for 10s of systems or more gets really tedious. Most of the systems I've looked at are Medium. Idk... I might just give up until the first fix comes along.
