Engineers Moving cargo between ships

AFAIA this has never been possible. Now I feel a need for it. I want to go and pick up some materials 400+LY away, and my heavy fighter Python's jump range will mean a great many jumps to get there. I have a fast, lightweight, unarmed Asp designed for long jumps - it could do the 400LY in almost half the number of jumps. But having picked up the cargo and brought it back to where my Python is hangared, I can't move it from Asp to Python.

The Python is my main ship, the others being designed for particular, specialised tasks. Weapon mods (by Engineers) will be to the Python's guns, not the Asp.

Has anyone else felt a pressing need to transfer cargo from one ship to another? I suppose I could Phone a Friend, but that process would be really laborious.

Or is anything in the offing, along those lines?

Yeah no with all the comotidis and all the other cargo what you need for upgrading we REALLLY need a cargospace at hanger. if i got some cargo i need for engineers but not the rest of materials i cant go bounty hunting cause every ships shots at me after scan. And even when i go bountyhunting and i got limpets in cargohold the shoot at me to get my 10 bucks limpets lol. I thing everybody would agree that we need a cargo hold in our hangers. give me one that says no

agreed. Once you start collecting for crafting you are stuck in that ship which means you need a python or higher to really do this.

Maybe the Fuel Rats could branch out into "Cargo Transfer Rats". Amounts of cargo will be low so it won't be too painful and one could drop a few tons of gold as payment for the service.

If you switch ships and the cargo does not exceed the cargo space of the ship your switching to, the cargo moves to the ship you switch to. I tested this bought 1 ton of hydrogen fuel for my Python, switched to my ASP and the cargo was now in my ASP. So I took my ASP to get the Meta Alloys over 400 LY away. Flew there and back, switched to my Python and the cargo moved. So hope into your ASP and head there the cargo will move with you when you swap back. On the other hand it is the person not the ship the Engineer remembers so you can hand in with the ASP and then upgrade the Python when you fly back or whatever ship you want to.

It needs some careful planning. If you happen to stumble across some sought after cargo in your ASP and you happen to have your combat vessel stored without cargo space then you are out of luck. If you can't fit the weapon you want to upgrade in your ASP then you can't swap modules later. A cargo transfer service by a trusted source would still be useful in these cases.

My best guess would be that the lack of cargo storage is some technical limitation - FD needs resources (aka disk space) to store all the CMDR info. The need for that space would rise exponentially if every CMDR would want to put some cargo in their trunk. But it CAN be done. The way it's done in 2.1 is just laughable. Suppose I came in with a Cutter full of materials. That basically means that I cannot use any of my ships unless I empty my Cutter's cargo hold.

I agree we need a cargo hold, but you are wrong about the limpets.
NPCs are now smart enough not to attack you because you are carrying limpets.

I ran into a funny one yesterday, associated with this problem. I did some damaged escape pod missions with a wingman, he also had the same mission. It was pretty great that the game put our crash sites almost right next to each other which made it rather convenient. Sadly I didn't pay close enough attention to the requirement for DAMAGED escape pods, so I picked up a damaged pod and a occupied pod thinking that was fine. I let my mate pick the rest up as he is just starting an needs the cash. Later after we had both logged off, I tried to turn in said pods but couldn't because of course the occupied pod was not mission specific cargo.

My mate had half the cargo! No big deal I thought, I just discard the mission and take the loss. Discarded it but was stuck with this pod that I couldn't sell or jettison because it was mission specific cargo, despite mission discard and logging off and on again. I couldn't change ships. I was stuck in my Asp X and couldn't ditch the pod or turn it in. Mate was not likely to play for a few days. Stuck.

I constructed a cunning plan. Landed on a moon and was fortunately still able to swap the cargo into my SRV. Drove out and still couldn't jettison so just turned off my sheilds and played upside down bouncy ball until my SRV exploded. Problem solved! [noob]

Interesting - thanks (+rep), I didn't know that.

Of course that means that if you've been collecting stuff in your P, and that gets transferred to your A, it's jump-reducing baggage - but that shouldn't happen too often in the case of commodities. Do materials also have a jump-reducing mass?

Another problem is this - when there's a bonanza available somewhere, and you know you're going to be needing some of that later, but not just yet, so you go and pick some up. But you'll have to be lugging that lot around until you do. I need a lock-up store room!

YEP .. stuck with same problem .. after doing Sothis & Ceos run, data missions too increase faction ranking, thus achieving Allied status

Ive filled up my cargo hold of mission rewards mats...doh! end of game ..lol , no idea why I thought mission rewards would be storage like others mats are , but no

I did have 12 cargo free when I finally noticed, got one long distance haul of 3.5 million, better than nothing

Still wondering how too get the CARGO off the Asp ! so I can take advantage of my Allied status in Sothis & Ceos runs

Any further updates from FDev's on cargo storage issue ?

Is there a Cargo Rat service ?

I transfer cargo between ships every few days. I have two Anacondas that I use for storage. It's fun meeting up with them and moving the stuff between them.

You need two PCs or a friend with one, then you buy a second account of the basic ED, then you follow this guide to get your Anaconda in 15.5 hours from start. Then, you can use it for storage.

Your joking , so that's it , there's no other SANE solution as yet...

The logistics in the game created by RNGineers is just pure incompetence. Six months wait for a ridiculous patch then another 2 months to rectify the mess.
No guarantee we are even getting storage anytime soon either.

Cant do anything, game is broken badly ,truly seeing it now with this cargo , how could Dev make this and not see it happening , so dumb
