Engineers RNGods hate me >:(

The RNG for the special effect is the worst troll ever. I collected enough materials to do around 20 DICE ROLLS what happened next just kicked a nerve.......

The special effect thingy that moves around trolled me hard.

Every single time the pin would slow down just in time to hit the BLUE square and miss by an inch ,either by passing the blue square in the last millisecond or stopping early. clearly felt like the

thing was rolling with the intention to miss from the start by an inch... :(


I can now say, i just hate this thing. Feels like a waste of time. I hate gambling and this is just that.

you should have kept it all, they will soon introduce a way to choose our experimental with 100% chance of success.
 
Just keep trying. You'll get what you want after 37 hours of grind or so..........maybe.:D

Amen brother the RNG is a Cruel Mistress. Takes your time, your Hopes and Dreams, and crushes them under her heel.

its not even fun :(

agreed makes me want to beat the engineers into doing it for free. but game wont let me "play my way"

i simply will not waste my time doing this none-sense of a feature.

They were mostly easy to find items, wasted couple of hours of my weekend but i surely wont even try doing anything else of this thing anymore, the worst part is that i was so mad annoyed i almost uninstalled the game >_<
i'm growing tired of the un-fun "features" we paid them to develop..... :S

I'm not a fan of the heavy RNG either.
.
What I think would be fair is if the Primary effect was guaranteed.
E.g. A level-5 thruster mod will increase your speed by 20%.
But the Secondary effects. E.g. A 5% +/- on the modules heat efficiency/mass etc, was RNG'd.
.
You still have an element of uncertainty, but the mods will always be worthwhile.
 
I got an incendiary class 3 m-cannon on the third roll at grade 1 (I was just doing basic stuff to get to level 2) but TBH I'd like the option to have specials or not (soon ;))
 
Why the devs went for such a heavy RNG crafting model boggles the mind they should have just gone for a guaranteed outcome model and just upped the mat requirements also remove the bloody material storage limit.
 
I got thermal vent on a second roll with a beam its just the usual rng rubbish (don't feel too salty it was the bottom large on a corvette and i only made it lightweight and its almost certainly gonna get sold :()
 
Sorry OP, but the special effects for weapons are a possible bonus only. You still get an upgraded module..

Sorry OP, but the special effects for weapons are a possible bonus only. You still get an upgraded module..

I think this is the problem - special effects look so tasty people want the game to make them priority for their work-effort, and they are meant to be rare and unique moments. Whether that's right or wrong is up to opinion, but it does feel there's an imbalance between their reward intent as part of the Enginneers, and what people think should be their reward.

The Engineers aren't going anywhere, the whole point of Elite is its a long running "lived" game. You should probably expect to pop to the engineers a few times over the next couple of years, if these rewards were easy, they'd be boring by then. Elite isn't about fast rewards, its a long term goal. If you got everything now, we'd be complaining there's nothing left in a years time when everyone's boats are souped to the max.

I think its about looking at how we play the game more than suggesting the RNG is wrong. We're playing it with the wrong mindset.

Yep, exactly. Unfortunately, we live in a consumer-driven society nowadays where people can pay Amazon (here in London anyways) to deliver what they want in an hour and if it turns up even slightly late, again the toys are outta the pram. I want it and i want it NOW....
 
I think the mod rng chance is meant to be just that "chance" It is purposely made a rare thing, if it was easy like in beta, everyone would just have the best, in this system at release, you take what you can get.
Players will all have different mods, it will take a very long time to get the best ones, some won't even bother with them, and the game won't be overloaded with them. (for a long while at least)

Silly analogy, if you've paid them extra (over normal delivery) to deliver in that time frame then it should be delivered in that time frame. Complaining about that isn't "throwing toys out of the pram" it's letting them know they haven't fulfilled their end of the contract.

Apart from the NPCs who've had ships loaded with all the goodies since Engineers went live, no waiting about and dice rolling for them.

Yet all the NPC's got their amazon orders delivered... and us players are to sit here while RNG skrews us... other online games I play spend their time balancing players against each other... this is the first time I have had the devs unable to balance their npc's (not talking AI skill.. talking npc mods being on every ship)
