Good luck with your studies!
Hi Brett,
You'll notice this is my first post on your forum.
I came to the forum to try and find out what was going on with the game after I got nearly instantly killed (from the time I submitted to interdiction to being killed was maybe 15 seconds....?) My shields were gone and my screen was corrupted before I even had time to think. I don't mind games with challenge, but having no chance, what is the point?
I've never really understood the interdiction process and have never found it fun (I got killed once before and took about a six-month break from the game). I play solo and just want to make my way through the game, see the beautiful star systems and basically be left alone. I fly a trading ship, don't take missions and don't participate in powerplay.
I'm a casual player Brett, I don't have a super fancy gaming rig, or VR, or a HOTAS setup. Just a mouse and a keyboard. Half the time I can get away from an interdiction, sometimes I just submit and try to run and hope for the best. I don't have a ton of time to put into this game, so a death and loss of a ship is....well game breaking.
It is Saturday and a holiday in the US. I was so looking forward to seeing the Engineers. I played a good portion of my day. However, I don't have time to put in half my actual real life day trying to build up something, and then have it all taken away. If I could keep that time investment and enjoy it again later that would be one thing. However, after a bunch of hours, I got nowhere. Actually I spent my time trying to play your game and ended up going backwards! It will take me hours to get that insurance back. Well it would, but I'm done for awhile. It's a game Brett, it is supposed to be fun. It isn't right now. At least not for me. And judging by the forums and feedback in the gaming community as a whole, not for a lot of people.
I played Elite when I was a kid, back when it was wire-frame. What you all have done with Elite has made it a beautiful, incredible, wonderful place to see. Brett, I like Elite and I wish you all well and hope that Frontier has much success. It just isn't the game for me, not right now, not with it's current mechanics.
One last thing. I came to the forums in frustration -and honestly, hurt- that I lost all my "work". I was hoping to find an answer as to what I did wrong. What I found was this post by you, the Community Manager for the game, making fun of another customer who was having the same experience as I.
That is disheartening.
Good luck Brett, and to the rest of the Elite Team. I may be back in a few months to check out multi-crew.
