Engineers Quite frankly I think RNGneers is stupid. Here's how I think they should have been done.

Instead of rolling the dice on the same module dozens of times to hit level 5 with an engineer, why didn't FD make it so that a mod was a simple upgrade, but before you could get it, you have to gather loads of materials for it.

I'm talking a galaxy wide hunt for dozens, hell maybe even triple-figures, of materials, and missions to build relations with certain factions, etc.

All in all I think a super-long quest for a single, more tangible reward would have made much more sense.

Instead FD have given us this mess.

I'm not impressed.

You are not alone. Many are thinking the same. Just read this forum

Indeed. I need a break.

Good thing I just downloaded the Falskaar mod for Skyrim.

Might also buy Morrowind too, just to kill the time while I wait & hope for change to something all-in-all more reasonable.

There aren't many who are impressed. I too have made suggestions all through beta and while I may not quite agree with a galaxy wide item hunt, that would still be better than what we got.

Just so you know, morrowind is worth every cent. Just don't expect it to hold your hand like Skyrim and Oblivion do.

Yeah, my suggestion isn't perfect, but it makes more damn sense than what we actually have.

At this point i be happy if i could make my own mods without engineers. Something like Fallout with the weapons workbench or armor.

And even more are thinking the opposite, but are busy playing the game. :p

OP, please don't fall into the same trap these people did and DON'T grind materials. It's pointless.
Just do anything else. ANYTHING.

I've spent last two days doing missions, driving and flying around planets and fighting in CZ. I collected over 400 units of materials and I now have enough to go and experiment, this evening.
Engineers aren't the focus. Focus are changes in every other aspect of the game. And the fact that whatever you do, you earn crafting materials. And materials and engineers are here only as a prize for playing the game.

Morrowind is in my opinion the best PC game ever made. Still holds up today.

I think what Fdev wanted to do was to add meaning to the game especially with the numerous claims of 'mile wide, inch deep'. Now, every activity has meaning regardless of what you do, you will collect items that have a use with the Engineers. Every Engineer caters for different play styles and activities. Its a hard thing to do to add balance and the game is constantly being balanced and upgraded. Further throughout this season, other updates are likely to rebalance things again. Its a work in progress.

Is the game at its final iteration now? Of course not, that would be impossible given the future plans. I think that if people simply play the game, rather than grind for items, for credits, for something, then this makes more sense. Because of the lack of activities in the current game, when new patches drop, people are inclined to 'get the latest item' in the quickest possible way, which will naturally be through grinding, and then inevitably complain about having to grind.

If we think about a few years in the future, when there are multiple activities in the game of the same degree of impact as this patch, the focus on one or another for a player will be less of an issue. Its one of the downsides of developing a game by adding new and significant additions months and months apart.

I agree. I love the engineers concept, but the slot machine mechanic is awful. I'd much prefer having to complete a series of missions or finding rare items to gain/build the upgrade. Rather than simply collecting more stuff to have yet another spin of the wheel. "Oh, overall it's a downgrade, well better luck next time Commander..."

ED is not a game designed around instant gratification. You are not supposed to be done with engineers a week after they are introduced. How can so simple a concept escape the attention of so many?

It's also not Dungeons and Dragons where rolling dice is a valid gameplay mechanic.

Yet games like Morrowind is based off(and uses extensively) that same rolling mechanic you just panned. Yet you say it is the best pc game ever.

I know it's not about instant gratification.

That's why I'm suggesting a long-winded, complex quest.

It's not like I'm saying "pay 100,000,000 credits" for a mod.

But dice rolls are just stupid. There's a reason D&D is stereotyped as being played by lonely geeks.

Because any normal person finds a dice roll dull.

I was with you up until you called me a lonely geek ( I like D&D and RPGs)...

... OK, I'm a geek... not particular lonely, though

Sorry about that. I'm just trying to make a point.

Most people hate dice rolls.
