I really do hope that this implementation is just a bit of a PR whoopsie and the much vaunted Item 2.0 Max talked about is coming. They have to get some progress down this year. I really did think after Chris's statement at the end of the BBC article and with Erin coming onboard that they would get SQ42 out for xmas this year come hell or high water :/

That vid (like all Major Toms work) is very well observed and delivered satire, and the scrolling list of promises is genuine 100% CIG sourced pie in the sky undeliverable nonsense.

I played on a friends account for a week. (Arena thing and that Bigger Arena thing) He explained it to me like a door to door salesman. Several of my friends have put quite a bit of money into SC, and I have a few friends working on it here in Santa Monica.

Pyramid Scheme. I hope it isn't. I really really do. Not just for my friends who have invested into it. Not just for the ones working on it who need their jobs. But I know for a fact that things are not going well internally. They talk of selling concept art and models and just fluff. One friend I have is very nervous about it and doesn't know exactly what the real goal is or whether or not they can actually achieve it.

For all of you that have put money into SC. Think good thoughts. Very very very good thoughts. Hold them to their promises.

You all have my best hopes.

I outsmarted the gnomes by going commando 09.

CIG have relentlessly and ruthlessly marketed every half baked bit of theory-crafting they've ever made up on the spot. If they had anything even halfway impressive to show for the last five years they would be plastering it everywhere. And whats happening now isn't just silence, they are cancelling prearranged promotion opportunities.

It's broken and they don't know what to do.

Can I ask what your friends working on it in Santa Monica are doing? Programmers? QA? Customer support? I mean, not that I don't trust you or anything, but there's a lot of claims floating around of "inside sources" as of late, and the person responsible has been caught a number of times engaging in sock puppetry.

My family & friends in Frankfurt (cousin and 2 friends) say its gonna blow the industry inside out, tech being used like no one as used before. Forget everything you know, this is gonna be gud!

It is in the video, sunshine. You can't post something up and then get upset when people ask about it.
Stop talking about other games and focus on SC, you know, the title of the thread?

Can anyone land on a planet in SC yet? Yes or No? It says in the video it was released 10 months ago.

Can we​ land on a planet in SC yet? No.

That was a demo, it was never released, it developed into the whole procedural planetary landing part of the project.

I'm not the one talking about other games, you are, anyone that has the planetary build can land on a planet in SC.

This is quite the old footage from outdated tech but it's already and still the best damn space-to-planet approach ever done in the gaming universe. period.

Correct, very true. As I recall Elite didn't release videos in alpha saying "Planetary landings released", when patently they weren't either. Let's not let recorded facts stand in the way of logical fallacies though, eh? :)

That is two attempts in short order to talk about games other than SC by you and garlic. Do you not like SC? You seem to want to talk about any game other than it, which is weird when this is a thread about SC!

I edited out my statement about Elite because I didn't think it was fair. You'll see I did the edit before you placed your post.

EDIT - Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if proKar is an actual SC fan, or someone playing a part. :-\

This thread is seriously screwed up.

Have we really devolved to "I'm not, you are..."

So has anyone outside of that Dev or CiG staff been able to land on a planet? Obviously if the answer is "The ETF can but they are under NDA so they couldn't tell you even if they wanted to", well that is effectively a "No" then.
Think of how many great videos, twitch streams, publicity they could generate with players taking all manner of ships from Olisar down to the planet surface.

Why hasn't such a complete piece of code been released to the PU? It would certainly silence naysayers who said at the time it was a video and the Dev was faking any semblance of interaction with the shown footage.

I also saw a fully fleshed out planet with atmosphere, cities, people walking around, waterfalls and birds. It was the FD development planet, you have never seen such fidelity before, I'm not kidding. It blew me away (wink).
