I also saw a fully fleshed out planet with atmosphere, cities, people walking around, waterfalls and birds. It was the FD development planet, you have never seen such fidelity before, I'm not kidding. It blew me away (wink).

I think I see what's going on here. Someone plays the "cultist", and someone else plays the amused skeptic. It's an entertaining show, I guess.

Time to get some popcorn.

Is this game still a wreck ?
Have they moved from Arena Commander and multi crew ships at all?
Sorry, haven't followed both SC and ED lately and uninstalled this junk a long time ago.

Aww... watching a circle-jerk isn't fun.

I guess I'll leave you boys to it then.

Watching a "circle-jerk"? Huh?

It's an un-edited video of Chris Roberts trying (and failing) to play the game that he and his team are creating, live before backers such as yourself and Taren.

The fact that you dismiss this so casually, without even having the slightest hint of humour, speaks volumes about you two.

Anyway, back to Star Citizen and Squadron 42.... How is that E3 presentation coming along lads?

Since I didn't quote a specific post, I was referring to the continuing trend in this thread of people just mocking SC and making eachother feel good about it. I've learned rapidly that there's little reason to engage in any real discussion.

Add in the people using socks to play the part of a rabid cultist so that everyone else can have a good 'ol time laughing at him, and it's pretty clear what this is.

Well you haven't contributed much to the thread sooo... Smartie? :)

I guess people don't like it when their circle jerk is interrupted....

Again, the term "circle-jerk" is being applied to posters on this thread who have been long standing members of the E:D community. People who have purchased the Frontier title AND put some of their hard earned dosh into Star Citizen.

They have offered usually very well balanced views regarding the latter project and, strange as may seem to you recently arrived forum users, are old enough and mature enough to make up their own minds about the progress of said gaming venture by looking at a variety of different sources.

To start throwing out terms such as "Smartie" and "Goon", in an obvious attempt to get a rise out of those posters to respond in kind and get this forum shut down, is quite frankly, childish and ultimately self-defeating.

All you are doing is re-enforcing the opinion that folks such as yourself are incapable of listening to ANY sort of criticism or critique being offered at Star Citizen.

Oh and btw, if you want to see REAL example of "circle-jerking" in action, then you'll not have to look further than the RSI forums themselves, where even the slightest hint of discontent with Chris Roberts vision is shunted off the main pages. So I find you guys describing the forum members here as being in an echo chamber as being rather ironic to say the least.

I've never seen such a pointless argument about what is or isn't a bug. Ultimately it was a daft mistake and quite a funny story. I expect the Star Citizen devs found it funny (I've not watched the video), you've got to laugh at the stupid bugs/mistakes/whatever you want to call it.

Sounds like it's going to be a fun few months for people working on SQ42, having Chris Roberts constantly watching over their shoulder...
You have a funny definition of funny going there ;)

Not everyone here is like that. And some people have a legitimate issue with SC and CIG, and that's fine too. But there's a way to have a discussion about that which doesn't devolve into self-appreciating juvenile behavior, no?

I'm sorry. Que?

Are you being serious?

You are being *legitimately* serious that the user "proKar_garlic" is somehow an account that was specifically made to look like a fake Star Citizen rabid "cultist" so that other forum regulars can point and laugh at them?

Tell me, are you one of them 9/11 "Truthers" by any chance, because that seems like a conspiracy theory which would fit right in with them.

Oh and Electrofreak, you have still to answer the question regarding how CiG's presentation at E3 is coming along..... Come on, it's a chance to discuss Star Citizen.

I'm all ears.

Indeed. Except it hasn't descended into that.... If that was the case this forum would be looking more like the SomethingAwful one regarding this game, and I'm sure you REALLY dislike that one.

Anyways, I'm of the opinion that it would be best if Mr Smart took leave of this forum because his presence here almost inevitably lead to discontent and rancour on this here thread. Which is a shame, since actually having a forum that had a *range* of views regarding Star Citizen rather than one or the other, is rather lacking currently on the old interwebs.

I've got to let this out of my chest, despite begging for anonymity I have to thank this special poster in this thread for is kind words and using my referal code and earning me a free Gladius ship! Thanks and welcome Citizen, thank you very much for the kind words and tomorrow I'll introduce you to your very first covalex/noodle run.
Thank you. This is for you kind stranger.

You desperately want me to be a rabid fanboi too, don't you?

At this point, I'm starting to question proKar's motives. I sent him a private message and told him to relax a bit, because his... aggressive responses were undermining the credibility of the rest of us trying to have a legitimate discussion. He gave me a very... cliche set of responses, and then he made the claim that "certain people" had access to a "planetary build" "(wink)"... yeah. That's a load of baloney.

I'm a fan of SC, and I talk to a lot of other fans... but something smells very fishy here. The fact that he's playing right into the hands of some others here... c'mon.

EDIT - See above, he's not even trying anymore now.

To your question: A lot of people are angry about the CIG announcement. I'm not happy either. Did you want me to try to spin it into something positive?

I'm very much of the same opinion. I'd take my leave in that case if I'm not wanted either, though I'm willing to be objective. I'm a fan, but I'm not planning on thumping any bibles.

Well, whatever proKar dude is doing, I haven't the foggiest idea. Whatever he just posted could indeed be from CiG, or he could be trolling for the lolz. Who knows?

As for your answer; to be brutally honest, I half-expected you to spin it like the best Conservative or Republican spin doctors try and get particularly bad news for their superiors seen as a positive amongst the voting public.

At least you aren't happy with the handling of this E3 mess by CiG. It's a start.

I'm sure you've heard the saying "be the change" before. Perhaps you should try it ;)
My critical comments towards CIG and CR in general come from my experience with them and contrary to "popular" opinion actually has to do with a strong disappointment in watching a fantastic opportunity for what could be a great game fail. The gulf between what is stated at/from CIG continues to grow and this makes it look less and less likely that anything resembling the many many official descriptions of what SC will be like should ever come to fruition. The defensive nature of the companies behaviour as a whole and their utter unwillingness to be straightforward with just about anything hasn't done them any favours. Even this arguably more realistic "minimum viable product" is left largely unexplained. What is it? What can we expect? Simple questions like those should be easy to answer but past experience dictates that nothing they say now can be taken at face value as so much of what has been said before turned out to be untrue. This loss in credibility is widespread and pointing it out doesn't make me a hater who wants to bring down the project. Thing is, after years of buying into it, I noticed that gap between what was said and what was seen growing fast. That's the issue, not some impatient childish rant or weird desire to have it fail. What I'd love at this point is to have my money back as even the project they say they are working on is not the same as the project I put money into. I imagine a lot of the people critical of cig are more in line with my way of thinking than with some conspiratorial dogmatic desire to bring down the house. That's just the weird mantra that began around the time CR posted that bizzare letter threatening to sue and playing the victim. In fact I'd say that letter of his was a big wake up call to a lot of us that there may be some truth to what the infamous article as well as DS's essay had to say. Until then I'd noticed some issues but hadn't really paid it much mind. Then, once I began to voice my concerns I was met with a wall of flames soon followed by a permanent ban with no right of appeal. Unlike DS which everyone likes to equate with any and all critics of CR (No offence DS I don't know you personally and am just talking about online reputation) my posting history is hardly vitriolic or particularly controversial. I've never been banned from anything besides posting on the CIG forum and generally get on well with others. The same is true for a lot of the other critics here and it's both unfair and dishonest to try and paint is in the many ways that we've been caricatured by the more aggressive fan base of sc (with CR's blessing). It's like a witch hunt against all criticism and it keeps most discussions on the topic of SC hostile so long as it's not highly controlled fawning.
