Engineers Stop complaining: NPCs are being "fixed" by FD.

First of all, I am one of those that actually loves the update. Differently from most of the whiners here(or babies, or anything you can call someone that wants easy mode), I enjoy the extra challenge and actually enjoy my combat role now, which was pretty boring before. I am sure there are many others that enjoy the life that FD has breathed into the stale, and often boring Elite Universe.

Don't get me wrong though: There are issues that need to be fixed and complains about those issues are warranted.

However, harder AI is not a bug, or a problem.. it's a FEATURE. As it happens, the game was meant to be hard from the very beginning, and the AI has not been what it was meant to be. FD intended to make the game DANGEROUS from the very beginning, but for one reason or another they neglected the AI, and instead ended up with a game in which a 5 year old could slap Elite NPCs around.

Now, FD stated they are aware of the "issues" and are working on it. So... Stop complaining.

As per this post: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=257892&p=3990998#post3990998

The post states that they will remove most Engineers upgrades from NPC, which is something that I personally don't care about (and it is true some NPCs are a bit ridiculous). Balancing is always a great thing.

However, if they end up dumbing down the AI to the point that it's stupid and boring again... I hope the whiners are happy about turning Elite into a snoozefest again.

Can we get our points across without being derogatory to others?

Perhaps, but just as some people are referred to as the "git good' crowd well... It's hard not to get a bit antsy .

Have you read the forums lately? There has been anything from Engineers is ruining my marriage to my nephew cried because of Engineers (and trust me, I'm not kidding). Look around, the ridiculousness of the posts made by these "crybabies" would make you want to slap someone.

What bothers me the most, is that before the Engineers, people were like "Fix the stupid AI, make the game Dangerous or we will leave" and now it's "Dumb down the AI, make it stupid or we will leave"

Seriously? Grow up. It's a game, and learn to enjoy it as it is. If you are bothered because you can't get that Anaconda in a day anymore, then maybe you should play something else.

Here's a short FAQ:
Q: Want a challenge against AI?
A: Do not A-fit your ship.

That's the problem with 2.0. Even with a mediocre ship, you could still kill pretty much anything. Lol... AI was just straight out dumb.

The problem was no really the AI but more the pimped out ride the NPCs had while we had to scavenge hunt half the bubble for 5% increase to our lazors.

You mean there are ways the player can make the game more challenging? I just don't believe you, not with the way all these cry babies have been whinging about nerf in the AI. (That attitude goes both ways guys![yesnod])

Yes, that's fine, except that many could still happily fight the NPCs despite that and once everyone has pimped out their own ships the NPCs are just going to be cannon fodder again. I thought they were awesome :-(

Yup, I've seen the rage and upset on all sides!

That doesn't mean you have to join 'em :) Your points may stand just as well on their own (even if one disagrees with you).

Personally I've not commented as I didn't have anything to add to any discussion, but figured I'd wait until Frontier responded today - which they have - and I still have nothing to add to the discussion :)

Fly safe cmdr o7 :)

I think they will reintroduce modified NPCs but maybe with a little more balance to their builds. Some of the NPCs were a little too much pimped out. I liked them too but I had my share of insta-gib. A balance between the two is the best and it takes experimentation and time to achieve. Don't rule out the NPCs just yet.

Agreed bigtime.

If the players that at least announce to everyone they wanted boss loaded NPCs actually started out by nerfing their own build in 2.0 for that apparent desire for increased challenge
and the devs in 2.1 performed some minor to moderate AI tweeks only...then everyone would have been served.

But, nooooo, foggy mentality prevailed.

There is a very easy solution to your "issue" - don't "pimp-out" your ship.

And that's great for someone looking for combat but unfortunately what is now a challenge to you in your combat roll is instant death to anyone not in a high-end combat ship. Those out for more peaceful activities such as trading or mining can be destroyed in seconds without a hope in hells chance of defending themselves or escaping.

I certainly wouldn't have an issue at all with the new power and tactics of the NPC being available in conflict zones where those not geared for it can avoid it but things do need toning down about to make non-combat roles playable again.

I'm stuck out near NGC 7822 at the moment so I haven't really played any of the new content yet, barring a couple of hours in the beta, but from what people are saying (leaving the bugs aside), the difficulty sounds like it's around where Elite and FE2 difficulty levels were. If you saw an Elite anything in those games, you generally shat yourself and ran away as best you could.

Also, could someone confirm that it actually matters what sort of system you're flying in now? In those old games, you tried to avoid Anarchy systems like the plague and only went near them if you wanted to risk a particularly lucrative mission. So far, it hasn't really mattered what type of system you were flying around in. Danger levels were/are generally the same. Has this changed or not?

Not an option, because other commanders will and they'll want to kill me.. Some of them are a lot more dangerous than the NPCs ever have been so I'll need to be part of that arms race.
