Horizons Do you have to use Kill Warrant Scanner now?

Just fitted out a combat ship in order to do some bounty hunting. Before 2.1 if I found a wanted ship the reward showed up right away. I just found and killed 5 wanted ships and there was no bounty attached to any of them. Is that supposed to be happening?

Bill,

Two things come to mind.

1 - Something's broken. Support ticket.
2 - Are you in Open? Another CMDR stole your kills.

If you target a ship, and it completes the scan, press 1 and look at it on your targets panel. It should show the bounty tied to that target.

If the target is wanted and the bounty is 0, then that is a bug.

All a Kill Warrant Scanner does is give you bounties to hand in at neighboring starsystems.

Its working, just think its been toned down a bit. Out of all the scans I have done, maybe less than half to a quarter of that is outside bounties.

In 2.1/1.6 I think Frontier may have toned down the players ability to ninja in on NPCs killing something to snag bounties on them, so you now need to contribute a reasonable amount toward the destruction, where before just landing a single hit and letting swarms of NPC do the rest gave you the bounty.

As Toffa mentioned though, when it comes to multiple players gunning for the same target the game works off of who got the kill shot so 'kill stealing' amongst players is a very real thing but that has always been the case, and you often see people in open play conflict zones intentionally going out of their way to do so.

It was in the community goal system Ngolibardu. I was in a private group 'Mobius' but hunting by myself. I have submitted a bug ticket. Nothing worse than losing out on a few million credits for a few kills.

Interesting that you should say that, I have never found that the KWS gives bounties from neighbouring systems. All I have seen it do is give me other major faction bounties, so if I am in Fed space and the miscreant has an Empire bounty on them I will only get that Empire bounty credit if I KWS them. If I am in Bast and KWS a naughty pirate I don't get a bounty offered by any minor faction unless that faction has a presence in Bast but I would get that even without a KWS.

So someone please correct me if I am wrong - KWS only works for major faction bounties.

You always had to have a warrant scanner to scan for bounties outside the current system.

If a ship was wanted locally, they showed up as "wanted".

If you scan any ship if they have bounty elsewhere, it will show up. If you shoot them (are they are not wanted locally) you will get in trouble.

Unless...

....you are in an anarchy/lawless system, where nobody is ever wanted (there's no police). So scanning them is the only way to find if they are wanted and then you can kill them.

This isn't new to 2.1 - it has always worked this way.

Why use a Kill Warrant Scanner? Because a pirate worth 10K in THIS system might be worth a total of 70K all around the galaxy, and scanning can drastically increase the bounties you are paid.

But remember, only shoot them after scanning (or they'll chaff and block your scans) and only shoot people who are "wanted" (red) locally unless you are in a lawless system, or face Federal justice!!
