Can i just note that the so called "whining" has now shifted; yeah, now you know how the rest of us felt with your constant insults.

Just let us be able to have a chance against NPC's and do away with the "Boss" NPC that have god-like abilities.

I think that's all anyone who stopped to think about it for a moment, was suggesting, frankly. But it's evident that wasn't enough for a sizable proportion of forum users. Any genuine risk from AI was a bridge too far.

I am optimistic that NPC will not be nerfed, beyond just reducing the mods, and fixing bugs. I am afraid, however, that the message frontier received is a blanket "AI is too hard" because that is indeed what the forum was saying.

I'm expecting that there will be some revisionism now to say that wasn't what was being asked at all; that AI were fine just too many mods (which was the actual situation) rather than "too hard pls nerf".

Actually they did. Both of them.

They farmers got an NPC mod nerf. And the warrior class got to keep the glorious AI intact.

Win-Win.

I am hopeful this is the case, but the news update does suggest the AI will be clubbed beyond just removal of modded modules. I'd have preferred somewhere in the middle. Tough elite and dangerous AI, spatulas and spoons for the lower tiers. We shall see. I do hope frontier don't go off the deep end.

Holy crap Rob, would you like to think about what you just said before I rip into you?

It wasn't a binary question requiring a yes/no answer.

The poll asked three questions relating to perceived difficulty, not two (ignoring other - who has time to try to find the posts relating to that 6.5% of the vote).

You can jut as easily lump "Just right" and "Too hard" together vs. "Too easy" (giving 87.8% vs 5.8%) as you can compare "Too hard" with "Too easy" and "Just right" combined (giving 46.9% vs 46.6%).

OK just woken up here. I did not get a chance to play yesterday (first day back at work after bank holiday). I thought the changes had already gone live as they were server side. Have you had a chance to test combat in the updatre to see if they are are still a challenge of clubbed to death?

This is not word of mouth, this is a first person account. Today, while running a mission to Hawley Station in Athra, for a mat in my Python, I was interdicted by another Python who had me down to 46% hull and no shields in less than 30 seconds plus he targeted the drive module individually, down to 76% when I checked after the initial encounter, it seemed to me he was using missiles, kinetics and thermals at the same time all the time he was on my six. I managed to jump to another system randomly, then jumped to another one for repairs, Wolf 1278. I got jumped again but evaded interdiction by the SAME Python on the approach to Wolf. Jumped from Wolf 1278 after repairs to Athra to complete my mission, got jumped by an Asp right after coming from light jump by the sun, couldn't evade and took him on. I blew him up but suffered significant damage. As I was charging the FSD the SAME Python showed up, I know, he had the same name, and he materialized really close. I had no chance, again, missiles, kinetics and lasers, module malfunction and in less than 30 seconds I was destroyed. My Python is A-Class with reactive armor, which apparently is worth less than toilet paper now. 13 million insurance that I can afford but not happy about.

BTW all these interdictors were shooting first and asking later!

I am not an ace but I am deadly and over 60% to elite so that is 9k worth of ships destroyed and recently all I've taken higher ranked ships to try to reach elite. So I do know a little something. Now you tell me how this NPC kept track of me throughout sundry jumps between systems and showed up just when I was vulnerable. This doesn't happen at random, this is a programming sequence set up to make you fail.

I don't mind a an even fight, heck I don't mind an uneven fight. I love to take on elite clippers, condas and cutters. My issue is that this was a totally, lopsided fight with NO chance to succeed. Maybe someone at FD said, "They wanted tough AI, well let's see how you like this!"

I have no reason to make this up, nor do I believe other instances have been made up either, they are too similar. Just because you haven't experienced something doesn't mean it didn't happen.

That's mission enemies in a nutshell, really. I'm just master but I got tailed by a dangerous FDL and an Elite Python all the way across the system, to the starbase. They even came after me there, and got the proper welcome from the starbase. There's nothing wrong with that, mission have worked like that since 2.0. Of course now with the increased difficulty it's not that easy to get rid of them. Since it was the same ship every time, it was because of the mission, and those won't ask questions, it's their way. Also this post of mine was from quite a while back, before the machine rail gun videos were posted, which were exactly what I was referring to. Vaguely saying that every NPC outright kills you is a blanket statement, but having proof that some work not as intended is not. And yes, the NPCs are a lot more deadly then they were before. But the fact is, I don't have a problem with that, I just can't blindly charge at wings of ships anymore.

Played for a while yesterday, and did not notice a massive difference.
I was pushed about by an Elite Imperial Eagle forcing me to retreat and later plasma accelerated by a fellow CobraMkIII... I did not notice any super powerful engineer mods on any of my opponents which is, I think, what the server update was all about.

AI remains the same, tough at high levels, but they don't carry modded weapons (at least until the claims of bugged AI gets sorted)

Yes. However frontier do listen to the community and will enact changes based on that, and not just hard data. I don't take issue with that at all, it's actually quite healthy, just that that typically ends up being a bit heavy handed because of the degree of reaction from said community. And I am hopeful this doesn't undo what are otherwise good changes in general, in the quest to neuter the AI.

Think we can discuss without labeling various parts of the community though.

I didn't say that FD doesn't observe the carry ons in these forums.
How many registered forum users with no guarantee that they actually play the game compared to a user database that FD have access to?
Business runs on numbers and facts, not anecdotes and low resolution videos.
The Shouting Hordes will have been effectively reduced to a couple of mice squeeking in the corner when compared to actual game data.
The pretty immediate response from a team of people coming from a bank holiday weekend says it all.
'oh     , who forgot to turn that off?!?'
'eeerr...'
'uuumm....'
'mumble....'
'cough...'

And who exactly I'm I labelling? All those toxic, inflammatory, troll posts chanting 'git gud'
They speak for themselves, and they weren't nice.
But if you can actually quote me as labeling 'various parts of the community' in some way... I'll still ignore you and say it as it is.

Sorry? Yes frontier is a business; but historically they have taken a lot of feedback from the forums and adjusted the game as a consequence. They do not ignore feedback. Regardless of the "numbers and facts". Again there is nothing wrong with that. It's healthy. The news article made it quite clear they are implementing changes based on feedback (as well as every other avenue such as bug reports and so forth).

There was a lot of inflammatory posting from both extremes of the debate, frankly. Including threats. I'm not really interested in revisiting it; clearly emotions can get the better of people. Doesn't mean a civil discourse isn't possible.

Yes, forum feedback, that's called community management and comes under Public Relations...
'oh yes, no nothing wrong with the servers, no nobody did anything wrong, we're listening to you guy's!' Wink, cheeky grin and pointy finger.
But, you're right and both sides of the conflict were equally as nasty. Let's all shake hands and move on eh.

I think you are missing my point, I don't want to become a combat expert, but thanks for the suggestions, I don't mind the occasional interdiction, I'm a trader, and explorer I'm not nor do I want to be a combat pilot. The point I was making was that I have tried Plasma weapons on my Python, but I was never able to fire them at the rate that this guy fires his, and in previous interdictions, none of the NPC's was as persistant as this guy. All I want is the fun to return, this is not fun for me. And like I said, I know ? I know that the Asp is more manouverable and I could have destroyed this AI, I understand about pips.

I also know how to avoid interdiction, If I want to totally avoid interdiction, I can press the escape key, or just uninstall the program.

Well you guys did it. The NPCs are super squishy again, I can kill Elite/Deadly FAS, Pythons, and Anacondas in my little stock Viper 3 without even scratching the paint. Even with D rated shields.

But at least the AI is still beautifully realistic. On Elites, it almost feels like I am fighting vs a real player. And even Harmless NPCs feel like they are humans too, just ones that make a LOT of mistakes, and are made out of exploding paper.

Post links (the number at the top right of a post is the link to a post) are handy as we are able to set the number of posts per page - this is only page 97 for me.

It's 15 pages .. This thread is exploding.

And if you get caught in the middle of a system, because everything went wrong, select the nearest system (calmly) and start circling until your FSD is loaded, then align when it's done and jump out before the agressor even gets behind you.

If I want to totally avoid interdiction, I can press the escape key, or just uninstall the program.

I traveled about 1000ly since 2.1 including some in haulers and iCouriers.
1 completed interdiction (just wanted to see if OP NPCs are OP) and 1 attempt.

So I'm fairly certain the methods actually work and do not require a HOTAS or specifically high mechanical skills or combat prowess.
