Frontier: Please give us long range smuggling back.

I understand that Frontier, you the developers, are trying to encourage players to explore other avenues, find some of the other things you've created in the galaxy to turn a profit. The problem is, none of them are very profitable. I'm an Elite trader, and at best I can find missions offering 1-1.2 million credits. I can make that faster, and more consistently through (grinding, repetitive) high volume trading.

This is especially a problem right now, as people are loosing money left and right to the new A.I.

The price of failure is high: It's not fun spending 3-5 hours or more to grind back up the cost of the ship you just lost. Not to mention any vouchers you have, or stellar data. Long Range smuggling offered a relief valve on that. It let people gain income again. There's a reason it was so popular.

I'm sure you meant this as a temporary fix, but honestly, if there are other good things in the galaxy, the player base will find them, and will tell others about them. But right now, it takes a long time to traverse the bubble just searching, hoping there are things worth finding. It's not rewarding enough.

I understand that you're trying your hardest to make a good game. The little details, (like the one, a few patches back, where dropping out of supercruise instantly freezes the screen and doesn't allow stations to go blasting past) show that you really do care, and really do love the game. It's a good game. It lets me pretend I'm flying spaceships in our real galaxy. No other game has this. Its wonderful, and I hope someday Elite is my favorite game. I know you're trying to get it there.

But this wasn't the way. Trying to encourage exploration by removing one of the few ways people had of making acceptable cr/hour returns isn't the way. It comes across as almost punitive. "Eat your vegetables, then maybe you can have desert!" I understand your dilemma, I understand that you're trying to accomplish wonders with extremely limited resources.

But not only is this not the way, with the current player struggles and fiscal loss, this isn't the time.

FD didn't removed anything, Robigo was shut down by players delivering Unknow Artifacts to it, just like all the other stations who experienced malfunctions and the shut down of services.

All the other similar places are still there. Robigo wasn't hand crafted by FD as a special place. If you think just a bit about why would Robigo have such a number of long range smuggling missions, then you will find the others.

First: I don't know if the payouts for long range smuggling are too low, too high, or just right since I didn't test it.
However credits/hour isn't the issue in my opinion, you should stop losing your ships instead. Do you lose your ships because the AI is too hard? Or because there are some bugs with NPC weapons (heard reports that it's not fixed yet)? Or do you lose ships because you don't know how to run away? Are there too many interdicitons? Does the game spawn too many high ranked NPCs?

The problem is that you are dying all the time, not that you are unable to make enough money.

Long range smuggling hasn't gone anywhere. Just the system states now have an affect on what missions are available. Both sothis and ceos have been spotted with long range smuggling missions. I was in 49 Arietis the other day, there was a 7 mil long range delivery (not smuggling) mission. So there are still plenty of ways to make money. Just that the robigo glitch was finally fixed.

Yesterday I made 2 LongRange runs - legal hauls. Faction is in Boom State.

Netted me about 10M Cr for a 1x 140LY and 1x 100LY run.
Unsure what the smuggling equivalent for those pays - but I sure can't complain. I just have to take care that my Trader isn't taken apart by some of the big ELITE NPCs that would like to have a little chat with me enroute ;)

There have always been long range missions from places other than robigo. That particular milk run has gone for now, but there are still others.
What I would like to see though is a general increase in payout for missions of other types, as, since 2.1, they do seem a bit lower than before.

This; there were several places. Robigo was just the biggest milk run, but it wasn't the only one. Fehu. Sothis. Ceos. Quite a few. Now? People have to work for it a bit more.

Faction reputation also now plays a large part of missions; in other words, if you run missions for a series of factions repeatedly, you'll curry favor and gain more lucrative offers. For example, my home base spat out a few 1.3-1.6 mil short range missions this morning because a few are in a boom state and I have good standing. So I managed to fill cutter to about 75% full, after accepting 3.

True. To the OP: try HIP 74290, my personal favorite. Very nice system if you are a Terry Pratchett fan and decent missions without the Robigo crowd. I didn't try it after 2.1 update but i think it still work fine.

I was offered a few long range smuggling missions yesterday from a station on the edge of the bubble.

Summary: Long range smuggling has gone nowhere - you need to look around a bit harder for them.

I went to Fehu. Nothing. I've been to Obsidian Orbital. They had one or two smuggling missions, but only 1 mill a piece.

It seems like they've mostly been removed. I'll try some of the other places.

Have you checked the unavailable missions? Maybe your faction rank is too low.

It's not that they've been removed, it's that they've been balanced to stop them being the be-all cash grab that was killing other methods of earning credits.

As mentioned; you'll need faction rep. If you've only ever used Robigo (tsk tsk) rather than building reputation elsewhere, it might be slim pickings for a bit; building reputation is absolutely worth it though. The difference between my home ports mission list, and the random destinations I'm smuggling or delivering to, is almost like night and day.

Long range smuggling is still there (I see one every now and then), you'll just have to find a new system to do it from. Last time I was in 17 Draconis (2 days before 2.1) they had some fair smuggling missions aswell. Maybe worth checking that one out.

I may do some smuggling runs aswell when I find some. Just as soon as I get a friend of mine up to speed in this game.

Wherever your rep isn't good there you won't find any good missions (not even by accident). Build your rep and the missions will come.

They offered me 7 mills for 2 slaves mission at Maia. Too low.. :p
Anyway, how to heal Robigo? I am full of alloys, if station has market closed , how to deliver them?

Did you notice an increase in payouts as your status with the issuing faction went up?

Nope. Been there yesterday - only charity missions. Forget it.
