You've been saying their collapse was eminent 9 months ago. You've been wrong before, you could be wrong now?

To be fair he's only out by 9 months, Chris Roberts said SC was coming out in 2014 so Derek is less than half as wrong as the savior of PC gaming.

Fair enough. I guess Dr. Smart will continue to be wrong and SC will continue to be late. I can live with that.

So Dr. S, how was the meeting with feds? I got my bowl of corn flakes ready :D

If they are busy developing a game then why was CR on vacation instead of working on it? Why is he on vacation instead of presenting it to the worlds largest gaming convention? You don't sacrifice your product and company in order to go on vacation. If he was too busy to go to E3 then he is too busy to go on vacation. And before someone says he deserves a vacation, why? He has not produced anything, his only product is almost 100% behind schedule. He is taking vacation on the backers dime.

Vacation is not a "reward for success"; heck, in many countries it is a legal right. I don't know enough about the story to tell whether maybe the timing was unfortunate, but claiming that the man shouldn't deserve vacation because SC is not yet finished or buggy or whatever - that is just ridiculous.

Odd time to take a Holiday, you must admit.

It was his birthday, people aren't allowed to take a couple days off for their birthdays? I've done it and I'm sure a lot of people have too. And yes he is taking a vacation on the backers dime. He gets payed a salary for his work/job, same as all those people working on the game. And no the work doesn't stop because CR isn't in the office, same as with any other company. "The boss isn't here? Stop the work, everyone go home!"

I think the timing was just unfortunate.
Of course he should take some days off.

As for work stopping, didn't a programmer hurt his arm in a biking accident and a patch was delayed or something becuase of it?
Considering Croberts likes to go through everything and make sure it's up to the standard he wants, we could say taking a holiday might delay things.
I doubt it makes a big difference anyway since there are no more deadlines for SC anymore.

It's a shame they missed E3, because it would be a good way of reaching a hell of a lot more customers and it we might have seen something new.
Possibly even SQ42 related. So we all lose out.

Funny how I answered that question. Did you read the quote?

You do know that most people that start companies don't get payed for the first few years right? That all the money gets dumped into the company because the company comes first.

Talk to CIG, it was their excuse for not going to E3.

Not at all, its actually very normal. I am sure you might be fine paying a company to build you a home, it is taking twice as long and 1.5 years after the house should have been built (foundation still has not been pored) the contractor takes a vacation with your money. Yep everything is fine.

The timing was horrible if you had bothered to read the post you quoted.

So this npc who is in the gun shop buying a gun because he is going to lawless space, will he want to buy some fishtank fish?

Fish, fish, fish... You only talk about this... I for one am looking forward the real deal with AI birds and NPC shopkeepers to live this kind of experience too:

It was just a picture of a guy enjoying himself on his birthday and people have to chastise him for not being in the office building your game.

I can understand to a point, people being sensitive about something they want to succeed. This is the internet, it runs on snark and sarcasm.

There is a big difference between people taking the mickey out of the timeline of CR stating "We are too busy to go to a trade show, all focus is on the game", rapidly followed by Sandi tweeting him looking like the Old Spice guy "Look at me, I'm delivering a game... now look again, I'm on a speedboat in the sunshine!" and real nasty, personal vitriol.

People here got PMs on the SC forum telling them to go and die for voicing valid criticisms... perspective is needed, hopefully widescreen for the high fidelity fish-eating birds! I wonder if they can get Sir David Attenborough to voice over some glossary or encyclopedia segments? Wouldn't need any mocap as he isn't always in front of the camera :)

I never seen before in the gaming industry someone who was so hungry for a fame&public appearance as this "two"...Usually ppl. who doing this job avoiding the cameras and love their privacy, here we have the case of the GAMING-Kardashians...

Yes - the whole we can't make E3 because we're focussing on the game - weeee speedboat! was just funny - it was a comedy gift.

It seems strange to me that people go out of their way to find people having a pop at something/someone they like and then get all shirty about it.

I've wanted to be an intergalactic fish trader for so long, ED let's meet me do it in a basic way but SC is going to be the bgdigft game ever. Hopefully the back stories for NPCs will extend to the fish as well. Being able to research the bloodlines of clown fish will be awesome!

I wonder if when the fish are found floating belly up in the tank, they will re-spawn with more and more cybernetic augmentations until eventually there's a funeral.
