News NPC AI update

Not sure what patch you put on at 7am local, but you put back the bad code. I just got interdicted 7 times and their rail guns or seekers where like machine guns.

Excellent news!! though i wanted to ask since it was a bug do we get some money back to due to the buggy AI that destroyed our ships?i lost a total sum of 37.milions.
Thank you .

oh, and i love those magic shields every npc has got ( there should be a big sale at shields wallmart) where even AT 15% of integrity they get them full recovered in 5 seconds... lovely

That's the biggest issue that I've found, you get the shields down , they break off and the segments are refilling like a drain fills on a wet Glasgow winter's day. Your shields MAX A - Rated seem to take an absolute age even with perfect power management.

The development team have been hard at work investigating these bugs. To give you a little more information, it appears that the unusual weapons attacks were caused by some form of networking issue which allowed the NPC AI to merge weapon stats and abilities. Meaning that all new and never before seen (sometimes devastating) weapons were created, such as a rail gun with the fire rate of a pulse laser.
What Zac really means is that the new AI hacked the game to gain access to the beam weapons that will be fitted to all Thargoid motherships in 2.4. ;)

After massive overkill deaths 2 in a row I can't afford to die again so I stopped playing until fixes are in and tested. I am NOT a fighter, I have just basic weapons and a 1 point boosted engine to do better trading. Something attacks be and I run... with current situation that was not possible.. 2 and 4 hit kills even with full and extra added shielding and me full out running

I, for one, will not be asking for a reimbursement for my losses. I died 3 times over the weekend. In the previous however long ED has been live, I only died 8 times in total. The 3 deaths this weekend were due to me refusing to be beaten by the new AI and it was my own fault that I kept going back. 15 mill loss total - chalked up to experience.

Same here, lost 2 ASPs (one due to leaving it parked on a planet with cargo and making a coffee) and 3 A spec FDLs is RES combat, one of these may have been the 'weapon' bug as a single deadly python turned on me and took out shields and hull in about 15sec in a barrage of fire and had 4 pips to system at the time. The others were my bad judgement and hanging around a little to long after attacking wings of 3...

Yet to take the conda out on a trade run though, wanted to get an idea of how the NCPs now behave before risking that - may need to lose some cargo space for better shield gen and thrusters based on what I have seen so far.

Observed exactly the same thing in a few fights, somethings looks fishy, might report that as a bug too?

engineers weapons to the highest ranked NPCs

Organic is the direction I would like too see ED going , from Pilot freedom moving ships/storage , too the NPC ' learning' though survival, 'having influence' on a Wing or other Wanted NPC . As the NPC becomes more skilled, they could 'Make' choices based on the NPC interaction with the environment over time.

I hope this idea ' engineers weapons to the highest ranked NPCs ' to mean more than static equations, when reached.

Its a 10 year plan... but the bug that allowed the NPC , to make really Good rail guns ..lol.. should be in the Hall of AI Fame... or tweaked , to be something more

Give life a change.........[alien].... it wants to makes things ..

This actually sounds way more complex than anyone predicted  Impressive debugging devs! It opened a rare window into crazy possibilities of potential NPC uprising! :D

What Pecisk said ! Future community goal "NPC UPRISING": Crazy super NPC warlords with overpowered weapons taking over system, huge bounties and skill increase as rewards.

after the removal of the Engineers weapons for the NPCs.

Nice ... Just made the game far less interesting.

Don't get me wrong bugs should be dealt with ,and obviously something has gone horribly wrong somewhere, although I suspect AI becoming self aware and cheating massively has something to do with it! ;)

However AI NPC's should use mods as well and not just at the absolute top end either. There must be a halfway house that pleases everyone. I have died more times in the last week than I have in the last 2 years of ED, and I'm loving it.

That's great news as I spent the day getting constant interdictions by angry NPC's with buzzy missiles and a chip on their shoulders (hmm, pun?). I like that they got smarter but, they got just a little too smart and powerful. The thanks for the due diligence in rooting out the problem. Now, if the job givers would stop ratting us out when we take their missions 😉

Same to me lost more than a dozen ships since last update. I quit playing.

My bank account should be ~ 9.5 Million at the moment... due to bug issues, it's now close to 4 million. I can't lose another FAS before I risk losing the rest of my credits and possibly my $40 Mil ship. I don't have 12 ships in storage and a Robigo bank balance. For now, I'm done.

And no, I'm not going to fly a damned Eagle all over the place in the meantime "for small ship funsies."

I think the AI has taken on some of the more "colorful" personalities from Open play. Last night I was interdicted by a dangerous rated Viper MKIII, and I swear I saw the statement from it, "I don't care what you have....". I don't recall the rest of the message (it wasn't friendly), as it was pummeling me right away.

I did have 1 ton of Meta Alloys in cargo, so I was a magnet for everyone in the Maia system (multiple interdictions when I entered the system with 4 tons of CMM Composite prior). Regardless, I survived and it was thrilling. It knocked out my shields, and damaged my drives, but I made into Obsidian Orbital. FUN! :D

The bug fix is expected to go live in our next point release which is planned for the end of this week/early next week but we’ll have more news on the exact time in the normal patch notes forum.

translation:

Hey guys, there is a gamebreaking bug in the game that can kill you instantly if you undock.......... we fix it MAYBE at the end of this week. until then, ♥♥♥♥ you.

Can someone explain the new rules applicable to resource extraction sites, specifically in relation to powerplay pledging. Almost every time (and it may be every time) I enter a res I get spontaneously attacked by 'enemy' – not wanted pirates who still behave in the expected manner: not attacking until they or a wing member is attacked by me. The latest example was a RES (not high or low or hazardous but RES) in Tollan just now, where I was almost instantly attacked by a wing of 'enemy' ships (Torvald, I think. I am Hudson). They also seemed to be using the new weapons: definitely 'impulse attack', announced in the cockpit as such, and a metalic wooshing noise weapon I remember hearing first following the 2.1/1.6 release. I was so confused, I thought I might be in CZ, but it definitely was a planetary ring icefield res. This was in SOLO.

CUDOs!

The "new" AI is now a real feat for proficient players and no longer an apocalyptic warrior to newbies and traders.

This said: Could you please think about improving bounty and cz voucher revenues about 50%? It's not lucrative enough anymore to go to Res / cNAv / CZ in ships that use SCB and/or costly ammo. Not everyone has the skill and patience to go in an all-pulse-bi-weave-FdL (plus I hate the pulse noise :) )

Well this sucks.. I'm handing in my pilots licence and asking for that refund.

Me thinks you either didn't read the whole message, or didn't understand it.

The new AI is a smarter and better fighter, BUT it ALSO has access to superweapons/capabilities that it shouldn't have. I have been killed "instantly" several times, and am rather upset, but I am waiting to see what its like once this is rectified.

They are saying that they are not dumbing down the AI, but they are taking away its ability to cheat (as it were).

I do hope they are looking at the matchmaking as well, being in a type-6 with a rank of competent, and being intercepted by an elite anaconda with superweapons just didn't seem fair (keeping in mind this is a game that's supposed to be fun) when I was just minding my own business.
