I don't think SC has any competitor, none of the game you list (I don't see what ME is ?) are the same as SC.
CoD is not a MMO and cannot provide big map and free gameplay, NMS is not meant to be realist, ED has a totaly different gameplay.
Those game can exist at the same time and because they are so different everyone will find one they like more than the other but also because you can play them at the same time. You can start your evening running realistic mining operation in SC and finish it by enjoing a fast COD game.

The CIG truck is stuck in a muddy road because everything they do, a hode of success story haters try to make it look bad.
I don't even talk here about one guy that is used to do that, I am talking about the same people that made the new COD trailer one of the most disliked youtube video of all time, even if the general opinion about this new COD is that it look good.
They also got a so bad reputation because of those people that called SC a vaporware (and that are proved wrong by the fact that alpha 2.3/2.4 exist) that they have some kind of inertia that will need some really big thruster to compensate.
One of those truster could be SQ42.

CoD Infinity warfare will probably compete with SQ42, Mass Effect Andromeda will for sure take some of the cake.
NMS, well we don't really know about that one. however my point is, the competitions are gathering, they (CIG) need to get the game ready for release. The longer they wait this whole Space Game will very quickly get old and people can old play one game and be good at it.

My point they are late to the party.

Edit I forgot.

CoD is hated yes, but will sell in millions anyway, CIG don't have this luxury.

Wise words, lets zoom over to the RSI forum and get a comment about that...

Citizen what do you think about ED?

Oh ok, well I'll be off then to my hug box back at FD forums then cheers,

I am pretty sure this guy is trying to "troll" and think his post is very funny but he does not represent any community.
From my experience there is a lot of Citizen that play and enjoy ED because they where hyped by SC and wanted to play something until the release of SC.

I am one of those myself. I have 500-something hours in ED. You won't see me trash-talking that game, I'm a fan of both for different reasons.

Go to the Elite Dangerous subforum on RSI and you'll find a surprisingly friendly community.

There isn't an RSI subforum for Elite: Dangerous. There's one Katamari thread which mostly contains merge dumps from General containing people slagging Elite as it dares to be in the same genre as their beloved holy cow. Absolutely any thread which mentions Elite ends up there, no matter how irrelevant.

The same thing also happens with the No Man's Sky Katamari and others as well.

All the friendly community in those Katamari's also happen to be most of the people posting off and on in this very thread for the most part.

Hey Welcome new guy!

I see you made a thread asking about VR capabilities of video cards so it didn't look like you only joined the forum 2 days ago to jump into this thread: well played! :)

What are your thoughts on SC / SQ42? Do you think they will meet the Q4 release this year for SQ42?

Are you in the PTU, do you think 2.4 will reach the PU in the next 3 months?

What features do you think will come in 2.5? Will the "Item 2.0" system make real changes in the way people can view and interact with the SC game environment?

Do you think that SC will show at GameCon later in the year, or might they conserve their marketing budget for their own Britizencon later in the year?

I meant everything I said. I'm very interested in VR and I've spent over $300 on ED in Beta. I also got really good info about the RX 480. I won't be able to get an OR before the 480 ships anyways.

SQ42 may or may not be released end of this year.

I don't spend much time testing. I'd rather wait for a stable, and feature rich product so I don't burn out before then.

Didn't they already say they weren't going to GameCon?

Then, in equality, nobody represents any community :D

Space Game players will play Space Games because they like Space Games. The problem in this particular instance is that it looks increasingly likely that one Space Game may not be released that the Space Game backers paid lots of money for.

No, they pulled out of E3 / PcGamer. They are still pencilled in for GameCon unless my reading comprehension is really up the wazoo. My interest was that some of the defence of not going to E3 (beyond the PcGamer section being appraised as rubbish last year) was that they don't have a publisher and are wisely conserving marketing budget for GameCon later in the year. Hopefully that will be closer to being able to confirm SQ42 release.

I genuinely mean that too, that isn't snide. I do want them to get a game out. People have worked hard on it and people have waited a long time for it. Both of those groups deserve to see something and hopefully this year.

Sorry, subforum was a misstatement on my part, the Elite thread there is what I'm referring to, and the tone of the thread is pretty positive.

I think you've stated before that english isn't your native language. So I'll kindly let you know that calling people 'cultists' is just as bad as calling them 'cancerous'.

You are right English it's not my native but for me is such an obvious difference when you call someone "cancerous individual" and from other side I call certain crowd an"cultist"I don't know maybe it's just me and my education....You will notice that ppl. in here don't get upset(majority) when they call them haters, goons, smarties, black knights....but from other side some of you guys really getting shills when we throw names as white knights,cultist,/clowns,liars,thieves are names reserved just for some of the CIG members /...
You see you can come here and start at very first day harsh talks flavored with some names from above...and yet you are still here and no one close your account, you free to speak and to share your opinion ....well that's the freedom of speech as long as you don't insult some of us personally with obvious insult...I doubt that I can do the same out there....for god sake they even closing the posts just because it's subject that they don't approve even if is it very important for the future game development....

Well IMHO, big conventions get less and less relevant as the years pass, in lots of different industries too. SC is obviously a juggernaut when it comes to the marketing and awareness that they already have. I could make a reasonable guess that most people who would be going to the conventions and are even a little bit interested in space sims or FPSs would already know about SC. The ones that aren't going would hear about SC in the same way that they'd get their info about the conventions. Not a big deal IMHO.

And preparing for a convention has a lot more potential for derailing development then say, one person taking a rare day off to enjoy his birthday.

That's fair enough. I expect if the heat checks from "Team CiG" are that nobody really cares for industry conventions for information, they are better off focusing on what their committed consumer base want. I just hope they get the game out after that decision.

No offense mate, but I've heard enough of their bedtime success stories.

This thread is full of long-time posters not only criticizing the game, but also calling people at CIG and it's community names. That is also against forum rules, or at least the rules posted at the beginning of the SC threads. If something is out of bounds in regards to yourself, then it’s also out of bounds in regards to a developer, manager, and yes, even a CEO. If it’s wrong for someone to mock you, then it’s wrong for you to mock Chris Roberts. Most people here look the other way when that happens, and then they pull out the pitchforks when someone’s called a hater.

“But I’m a backer!” they say. “I truly want the game to succeed!” they cry. Saying that you (generally speaking, not you personally) actually care about the game seems pretty disingenuous in my books when you spend years mocking the development with a winking smiley face at the end of your statements. Spending money on a product does not magically prevent you from attacking it later on. Good luck convincing people that you want a project to succeed when you enjoy mocking it.

When has this thread ever been half-decent? ‘Digs’ and ‘personal attacks’ have always been par for the course.

I'm not sure if you're saying two wrongs make a right? But regardless in the end I'd say don't expect to come into a community, start calling that community names on their own forum and expect no-one to say anything.

In all honesty I really don't care if folk here call Chris Roberts, or Barack Obama names, it just really doesn't bother me. David Braben, Mr Brookes? I may say it's a bit out of order, given where you are, probably more so in the when it comes from new Mostly Harmless' who've turned up with very specific agenda, but really I don't think I'd actually be that bothered by it.

However if you start calling another poster names, you're are gonna upset people because clearly that poster will want to defend themselves. There's just no need for it.

The thread was half-decent (half I said!) because it was reasonably chilled out, sure passions can run high but were all a reasonably friendly bunch (I think). There was a point where I was even trying to get everyone to rep Max (big SC fan) since this thread needs both sides of the discussion.

But since Derek and co turned up, well let's say the level of vitriol has risen quite significantly, sure you can read through and say it looks ok now but that's because mods keep having to pull stuff. Which to be honest isn't particularly fair on them either since they're volunteers.

Both are pretty heinous insults whether you accept it or not.

But I haven't insulted anyone here. Can you say the same? Haters, goons, smarties, black knights, white knights, cultists, shills, clowns, liars, thieves. All insults. I don't care to defend bad behavior from the CIG community, but it doesn't excuse bad behavior here.

You really need to set an example by talking in a heartrendingly beautiful, poetic way about the first steps towards persistence.

Today persistence... tomorrow... more persistence! Then... THE WORLD! THE WORLD, I TELL YOU!

Meanwhile, on the RSI forums:

"The only thing they've shown of Squadron 42 is milling around a capital ship talking to some poorly animated people with cringe worthy dialog. Not a single snippet actual combat, you know the game part most people give a      about.

How bout they show some actual dog fighting or boarding actions? Shooting things in a spaceship or in a space station isn't exactly a spoiler. But we all know why they haven't. You only need to fire up the PTU or (lol) Arena Commander and see exactly what you're going to get.

A miserably unfun flight model coupled with player physics that make Operation Flashpoint seem like a well put together game.

The biggest selling point Chris Roberts can think of for the game is A LIST ACTORS, LOOK HOW BIG THIS SCRIPT IS. Nearly $115 Million Dollars, and that's the selling point. You'd have to be delusional to think that bodes well for the overall health of the game."

Uh oh, starting to sound a bit like some of us...

.

Seems like a tactical error not showing a good S42 trailer this month. Lots of murmurs of discontent, fundraising going down...
