A friendly suggestion to modify the Engineers demands

Since ED whole slogan is "Blaze your own trail" instead of collecting materials and forcing ppl into mini games they dont want to play here is my suggestion:

- to get FSD upgrades i.e. Explorers
- Grade 1 10 system scans L1
- Grade 2 30 system scans L1 - 5 planets scan L2
- Grade 3 50 system scans L1 - 10 planets scan L2
- Grade 4 100 system scans L1- 20 planets scan L2 - 5 moons scan L3
- Grade 5 500 system scans L1 - 50 planets scan L2 - 25 moons scan L3

- to get weapon upgrades . i.e. bounty hunters
- Grade 1 100.000 cr bounty
- Grade 2 500.000 cr bounty
- Grade 3 1.000.000 cr bounty
- Grade 4 5.000.000 bounty and 5 Python or clipper (elite level)
- Grade 5 10.000.000 bounty and 10 anaconda or higher (elite level)

for shields "common upgrade"
level 1 shields upgrade 100,000 cr
level 2 shields upgrade 500,000 cr
level 3 shields upgrade 1,000,000 cr
level 4 shields upgrade 5,000,000 cr
level 5 shields upgrade 10,000,000 cr

- to get cargo upgrades i.e. traders
- Grade 1 trading 100 tons of common commodity
- Grade 2 trading 1000 tons of common commodity
- Grade 3 trading 5000 tons of common commodity + 10 rare commodities
- Grade 4 trading 10000 tons of common commodity + 20 rare commodities
- Grade 5 trading 50000 tons of common commodity + 50 rare commodities

- to get mining and refinery upgrades i.e. miners
- Grade 1 mining 10 tons of common commodity
- Grade 2 mining 100 tons of common commodity
- Grade 3 mining 500 tons of common commodity + 10 rare commodities
- Grade 4 mining 1000 tons of common commodity + 20 rare commodities
- Grade 5 mining 5000 tons of common commodity + 50 rare commodities

Its not perfect or finished idea. Just a direction that may make things a bit more fun.
Like on reddit someone suggested to add a lore to it as well..

I thought like : as a bounty hunter u go to a bounty hunting engineer that had a beef with a certain faction and he ask u to attack their pirates. Or an explorer that ask for certain exploration data from a 100,000 ly away star that he once went to as a young lad.

and so on.. this way everyone get the upgrades he needs playing the game he want. What do u think?

The Forum should automatically delete any use of the phrases Immersion, Pay to Win, and blaze your own trail. People try to twist this stuff to what ever peeve they are on about. Oh yeah, the very idea that a game or it's developers are forcing people into this or that is simply ludicrous. They offer activities you can choose to do, or not. Ridiculous is as ridiculous does.

What r u even on about ? if ur into bounty hunting and u dont want to mine then they r forcing to mine for materials or search planets to get upgrades to ur weapons. The whole thing about ED is u play the game you want i.e. Sandbox.

Right, and if you don;t want to mine don't. In your suggestion, people that don;t like to BH won't be able to get the better weapons. What's the difference?

But if you dont bounty hunt or ur not a pirate why would u upgrade your weapons ? explorers dont use weapons, Miners dont, Traders dont.

My point is if ur an explorer u get upgrades to ur exploring equipment using "exploring" (thing u like to do)
if u r a bounty hunter u upgrade ur "bounty hunting equipment" using combat ( thing u like to do)

This way u get upgrades using your "SKILLS" instead of mindless activities u dont like

Someone trade with his python: defensive purpose should be considered as well as offensive one :)

and bounty hunter don't use their FSD?

That would be fine u can get grade 1 or 2 they r easy. but as a trader u wont want the 5th grade weapons would u ? unless u do combat on daily bases.

The idea is to get the upgrades u need doing the things u want and by Skill not by chance.

same concept. u can get grade 1 or 2 easily. but u wont need the highest grade for bounty hunting. u still can if u really want it tho. but u gona need to do some "exploring"
as it is now. its pure luck. no skills used

Sorry, I don't agree with you either.

The OP raises a valid issue. It is especially relevant to the to PvP and exploration players. To stay competitive in PvP, a CMDR will be compelled to do the activities necessary in order to remain competitive. FD has definitely made a conscious effort to move players into a broader range of activities in contradiction to its' "play it your way" sloganeering of days gone by.

I'm not passing judgement here or advocating, but clearly the OP has a valid point, and offers an alternative more in line with past FD declarations. I'm not endorsing his remedy as I would have to give it a lot more thought, nevertheless it's worthy of discussion.

some explorer still use weapon on their ship(don't like the idea but...) so a grade 5 light mod can be a really good idea for them. and for a trader that can be good too.

Thank you and Its in no way the RIGHT SOLUTION that FD should listen to, its merely a friendly suggestion that might make the game a little bit more interesting then using pure luck.

to be honest i wont mind spending 7 hours bounty hunting "coz i did" to upgrade my weapons but 1 hour of mining would drive me absolutely insane... same for wondering planets for materials..

People will still equate it with the dev's forcing them. No one wants to be excluded from content. It's all the same. Your way, people will face the exact same dilemma.

if ur an explorer wont u rather do more exploring to get upgrades then mining ?

Bounty hunting is OP and you want it to be more rewarding? Frontier need to put some reward on the others activities in the game.

these were 2 examples, they can be applied to every other aspect.

more mining for better mining equipment, more trading for better cargo spaces... and so on

and how can we gain the mod for the shields? capacitor? shield booster? bounty hunting? so everything you need will be on the only activity you play. and useless thing on mining and trading? thats the idea no?

it would totally make sense that mods required achievement related to their purpose.

but the material collecting approach makes sense too, as would many others.

the devil is always in the details.

In case of shields or other "common parts" needed by all players, u can make it simply paid by money

level 1 shields upgrade 100,000 cr
level 2 shields upgrade 500,000 cr
level 3 shields upgrade 1,000,000 cr
level 4 shields upgrade 5,000,000 cr
level 5 shields upgrade 10,000,000 cr

this way u can generate money doing the activity you like to do

Let's just hope they don't come up with the idea of coercing us into CQC...

I'm not looking fwd to mining either, but who knows, maybe I'll learn to like it.

Doubt it.
