Combat Rank Reset and other options????

Hi Everyone,

Going to start by saying I love this game and even more so after 2.1 dropped. The missions are great, love the new search feature on planets and the way scanning of USS's and other things happen now just seems so much more in keeping with the tech were playing with. And I think the AI now gives me personally a really good challenge, ive kicked butt but also had mine handed to me on occasion. Overall the game feels much more alive.

But all is not well in Elite land, the community seems to be very split at the moment with some very different views. And as I'm sure most of you want the game to have a bright future, we need as many players as possible playing the game and spending their money on coming expansions.

I can see both points of view, the hardcore want to a real challenge and a test of their skills. But a lot of players bought the game to fly the galaxy, to explore or trade, with combat a side show some avoid altogether. And the problem Frontier now face is trying to fine the middle ground to keep everyone happy which might be impossible.

So rather than everybody throwing cheap shots at each other why don't we try and come up with ways that might help. Frontier might not listen but surely its good to try. The problem Frontier has now is that a lot of players have been playing the game for the last year and enjoyed what they had, not too challenging but great fun and for quite a few relaxing. Now with 2.1 and the new AI and engineers they have changed the rules which to some players is unfair.
I liken it to someone sighing up for their local amateur 5 a side footy team. They pay to join, its just people playing for fun and enjoying kicking a ball about. Nice way to relax and something to look forward to on a Sunday. Then suddenly the Organizers announce that from now on you will be playing against Messi, Rooney and Co. Now instead of fun and relaxing their not even seeing the ball and loosing 20-0!! And for some no amount of training will get them upto that skill level. I know that's maybe a bit simple but you hopefully get the point. These are some of my ideas that might make everyone happy or at least help.

1. Combat reset. Don't know how easy this would be but would solve the immediate problem. Its not players faults they have high ranks playing the NPC's we have been given the last year, but are now getting punished for it. Let anyone Reset who wishes to, maybe for a financial penalty!! Then they should just get NPC of the same rank. Don't think anyone should have to do a full reset just so they can keep playing, too many hours invested.

2. System Security. I know this is a lot better but really make them different both in play and financially. High Sec only have low NPC and very aggressive Police. But missions pay less or the same as now. Then go to the other end of the scale to Anarchy. Very high ranked NPC's that are aggressive and enhanced. But missions at these stations pay very very high pay outs. Very rare items also only found here. You could even have Missions given at a High Sec stations to deliver to an Anarchy system but with MASSIVE warnings that you might never come back. Then its your choice. The hardcore could live in these Anarchy systems and be tested every time they go out whilst casual players stay to systems they like.

3. Safe Navigating. On the galaxy map have another option when plotting route. SAFE Route!!! This would take players around any Anarchy or LOW Sec systems but obviously it would be slower, more jumps and more fuel.

4. NPC Wingmen. I think most would agree we need these as soon as possible. I know their working on them, just think its unfair to the players that are now really struggling with the new AI to not have a way to help with the changes. I know in Open you can wing up, but a lot (myself included) don't want to play in Open. If traders could hire a couple of Vultures to protect them with their valuable cargo or mission it would make all the difference.

5. HAZ RES. Should be as the name suggests. Bad for your health, Modded NPC's with serious anger issues!!! [big grin] Great challenge for those who want it, let MOM do her worst. and to a certain extent HIGH Res to, just slighty toned down. Bigger bounties in both.

6. CZ's. Should be hard places to go. 2.1 AI but with some high end NPC's that have an Engineer on speed dial!!! Make the pay outs bigger for the added risk.

Just some of my ideas, well done if you got to the end. Frontier can hopefully make a galaxy everyone can enjoy, and that's the main word for everyone, ENJOY. Its like the world we all live in, most high streets you can walk to the bank and put in your wages and you'll most likely never get mugged. But there are other places in the world where its a lot more dangerous. Would be great if Elite could be like that.

Fly Safe.

Like particularly the first one. No need for cost or anything, its probably unfun enough for many to intentionally drop their rank down.

My only quibble is with point 6.
CZs are used by anyone manipulating minor factions via the BGS - they're the best way to win a civil war.
I'd prefer they introduce multiple levels of CZ, with degrees of difficulty, like Res sites.

Fair point, that would work. But would High CZ's influence the war more???

I'm not an expert - I just read the BGS Threadnaught ;) and picked up some tips - so I'm not sure whether it's currently ship count or combat bond value that the influence is counted on.
Either way, it could be adjusted so that the higher the danger, the greater the influence.

I don't think combat rank determines spawning. FD are smart enough to realise it's an arbitrary counter, and does not reflect combat ability.

I like the idea about more routing options. Being able to specify a "safe", avoiding Anarchy or otherwise dangerous placed, route option would be cool.

How about one to plot your fuel scoop refills, ensuring the last suitable star for refuelling is flagged on the HUD when you reach it?

More 2.1 testing needed, but I think High-CZs are likely hard enough. Numbers are the challenge even without mods. They gang up on you.

From what I've read NPCs spawn according to your highest rank in any of the combat/trade/exploration categories, not just combat rank. If you take a mission you also get NPCs spawning according to the mission's associated "rank".

I flat out refuse to reset or demand an easier game, I will overcome the AI and learn to adapt to it.

That's fair enough, but seems like a lot on the forum are talking about maybe stop playing because of the harder AI that they are struggling with. Just an option for some people maybe? As I'm sure ive read that what that spawns against you can depend on your combat rank.

That would make sense. So that does give players a choice on what to except from the mission board. But normal everyday life, like doing cargo runs to make money, the spawns you get come from your combat rank???
