Why don't you...

My favourite update is the one that offers a bonus for early completion, provided you complete in 0h 0m :|

That means land in less than a minute, I've completed a bunch of them.

My best mission so far was going on an assassination mission, where I got interdicted by a bounty hunter. An NPC helped me, then told me to scan a system, which led me to treasure on the surface on a planet. Finding treasure led to a three way fight over it, me vs cops vs pirates. I did a good bit of damage in my SRV, and plasma balls and rails look awesome when raining from the sky in pitch dark. Needless to say, my ships shields were gone by the time I got back into the cockpit, but I rammed those greedy buggered to the ground.

Ask any REAL developper

Are you a real developer? From what I can tell they are all over the internet...mostly on video game forums....but so few of them actually develop games...I can never figure out why....they must have transcended that menial task and moved on to the higher levels of bull

Bingo! This man understands.

Sadly it's my only gripe with 2.1 and it really was my most looked forward to edition.

I had it all planned out that I'd start to once again build federal rank when the missions got revamped.

My favorite so far is a mission to destroy 8 skimmers, nevermind only half showing up and having to go away and come back oh no. Base just didn't have skimmers at all EVER

back to doing other things I guess

I'm glad I like everything else in this patch

But.... still they can't get missions to work. I get the feeling it's beyond them. Which is a real shame.

That's exactly what I think.

Forget the future. IMO before they add anything new they need to fix the past. Missions have been in a sad state since launch. As much as the AI superweapon bug has been causing headaches and is getting immediate attention, so should the mission system because it's causing CMDRs to waste effort to lose time, reputation and credits in exchange for fines, wanted status and frustration. I really, really hope that the upcoming patch for the NPCs also has some love for the mission system...

I expected this since the game was released, but so far nothing.

At first, things were going like this when update came:

And people were reacting like this because of the hype and some crazy hope things would become greatÈ

But then, a few of us realised and went like this:

Because we now know that Frontier's devs think that :

Just like... ..... (self-masking to stay polite).

Ask any REAL developper if dangling pointers aren't all that uncommon. It isn't uncommon, it is RARE and called a zero day! That is, unless you're part of a team lacking the needed knowledge and skill to program and figured it wasn't something uncommon... Dah!

Oh wait, it's not only mission being bugged, sidey fireing multicannon style rail gun, interdiction bug, npc spawning from nowhere to attack you, npc attacking you without having any weapon, meta alloys drop in barnacle bugged and needing to add them to a surface station market, etc etc etc... Oh well. That's Frontier!

Your post would have been funny if it was not the true and sad "picture" of the game so far.

I struggle to imagine how they could even make that programming mistake.

It's called rounding. The actual time will be probably be 20 seconds or something but they only ever display whole minutes. You'll find this happening everywhere within the game, including the ranking percentages.

Could I suggest that, to avoid these 'bugs' - you could try emptying a lot more cargo space than logic would suggest - this seems to help these alleged missions pass through.

I have no idea why this works, but I guess it is just the nature of these calmless things..

I think it's because the mission people can now give you some cargo as a reward. If you don't have the space for your reward then you can't complete the mission.. something like that. I made the mistake of having full cargo once and it wouldn't let me claim the mission. The silly thing is that if I gave them the cargo they were after to complete the mission, there would be enough space. However, it doesn't seem to work that logically. It would be nice if these mechanics were explained better.

Thanks! Even though i had enough space for the reward, swapping out an internal module for a cargo rack gave me enough space to complete the mission.

Yeah but I mean, put a check in - if it's less than 10 minutes or whatever.

Shouldn't you be playing No Man's Sky? Oops, I forgot that's a bit of a sore point for you. It seems that Frontier are much better at getting things to work than many other game studios around at the moment.

I actually do think the missions have been improved somewhat. Since the update, I've probably made almost as much from missions as bounty hunting (dealer rank), but I have got a couple of the "hurry up" followed almost immediately by the "never mind" updates. Can't you see I'm trying to run 4 missions here? Leave me alone.

Ah, a major update contains bugs......what a surprise. Fewer bugs than in 2.0 I have to say, & much less than I've seen in many other games I play.

Seems to be two main issues with the missions, there may be others so feel free to share or be told you're not doing it right by someone (nav beacons mostly).

1. Trade mission redirects seem to have a bug where you can only complete these if you take less than 50% of your cargo space, if redirected. Others can be fine.
Solution, nerf the redircects, not a massive loss and something hopefully fixed later on.

2. Cargo rewards jamming mission completion because ship too full.
Solution, nerf the rewards, or change them from commodites to materials. Since the rewards can be bought at stations, it shouldn't really affect gameplay that much.

3. Or just fix it if possible in the time scale given.

Oh, I noticed some complaining about the 0h 0m thing. Some can be done, maybe it needs another 30s in some cases but some are possible so maybe just needs some fine tuning depending on where you're landing. You may bounce about a bit though getting there.
I am not that good, not even Elite at anything, but it's not always an automatic loss.

Why in my day they coded everything in chalk and slate whilst being beaten by the university chancellor uphill both ways in snow and rain and they didn't fight in the battle of trafalgar so clearly have no clue.

*shakes head*

Missions have improved enormously. Unsurprisingly with a major overhaul, there are bugs. Which are/ will be fixed.

They have said the missions were made better or "NEW" mission type were implemented several times in the past... the "NEW" missions do absolutely nothing different to whats already in the game, unless you count different text entries as game changing.

Each time they break something and its either partially fixed in Beta or it makes it in the release version and the fix is pushed back to whenever they feel like it.

In the meantime they will either dangle a new shiny ship so people build hype or release another Pallete change for the Eagle, god forbid they give us the tools to create an actual paint scheme thats more technical than a two tone modern art piece featuring two circles and white space.

Sure but rounding doesn't just appear for missions. If they included seconds and decimal places in everything it would be fixed but this would be a massive task (for not much gain).

Sorry, you've lost me. I'm a programmer myself, I don't think it should be so difficult to add a check in there but whatever.
