2 days and i have nothing...

most of us don't have time to play 24/7 and should then be punished for that? even they paid to play the game like everyone else? Its just a bit extreme on this material collecting thingy. However im pretty sure things might change a bit.
Storage issues doesn't help this search either, if i carry even one canisters of anything some nutjob npc will want to take the motherload from me... more correctly, destroy me and have it floating around the void :p would be nice if we could at least dump it off over at an engineers place

it is not you are punished for not having time, it is them rewarding for playing more.

I loved this game.. but this engineers make me frustrated on craft "rng". How much effort and work i have to invest in it.. fun gone fast, rage come faster
Every day i try to play for hour, hour and half max.. but its more farmwile then diablo 3
When i think i prepaid for it.... disgusting.

They will fix it either by altering the spawn rates or creating permanent USS of the right kind, wouldn't be great for everything but things like scanning data from satellites and the such would work. we do have some like outposts but the randomness of the rewards needs to be lessened somewhat.
But i don't want a nerf on the amount and variety of the materials we need but a relaxing of the spawn rates of the grade 2 materials i don't know about grade 3 as i have not got that far yet.

Don't worry things will change and the love for the game will come back.

Speaking for myself, I am fine with it. Engineers upgrades are supposed to be rare and difficult so it seems to me to be working as intended. But then, I'm in the game for the long haul and for the entertainment value of buzzing around in a spaceship (yee-har!) so gaming to grab each new good thing as fast as possible and faster than the next guy so that "I'm a better gamer than you" is not why I am here. It is not a competition but it seems to me that most of those complaining here seem to think it is. Fine - play your way - but I'm not at all sure that this game will EVER be to your liking so why not move on now so that we don't have to listen to your never-ending complaints?

Actually, I've just realised, the answer is in my hands. Stop reading them! Jeez - I can be so slow some times. But I suppose my purpose is to provide FD with a counter view just so that - you know - balance. (Bound to get flamed. That's fine - I can handle it - go for it guys!) :D

Engineers great... got to level 2 in an hour... Ive just spent 2 bloody days looking for 3 things, so that i can do a single blooming grade 2 bit o crafting on either multicannons or thrusters. 2 of these are data packages 1 you get from outposts or and 1 from savage sites that's apparently common.
two days not a single one of either.
Iver not had time to look for the 3rd, top busy not finding the others where they are supposed to be.
Had enough of this, i am not one to moan about the grind but this is taking the you now what.
It wouldn't be so bad if my once top o the rage cobra is now about as good as a sidewinder stuck in reverse and i need to get thess done so i can survive against the now great NPC's and be able get on with the things i would normally be doing.
And yes before anybody says "it tells you where to get these things" and yes that's what i have been doing for the last 2 days.

I've had decent luck finding a lot of materials at Nav Beacons that were listed by the engineers as being in USSs. I've also found some in High-RESs as well as at POIs on planet surfaces.

Oddly enough, haven't actually found the stuff in USSs, though...

just think of the guy who got FSD level 5 in a weekend -playing non-stop-.. that is 17h aprox he said.. I didn't play that much time in a row, and played around 2-3h a day, I made my FSD level 5 yesterday, it took me the same amount of time, under the same conditions: we both had pollonium and yttrium as the result of spending sometime prospecting in the past. I did my homework.

now a lot of people see this material gathering as a punishment for them, and not a reward for me and the time I spent playing the game, so hardly I can agree with such opinions.

while I was in my quest of cataloguing and finding materials here and there for the FSD, turned out I also found materials needed to upgrade my multicannons up to level 3.. not that I looked for that at all!

anyway, as I said, I'll try to find later in the game and see how can we help you.

Collect materials scans etc as secondary options. Do missions and on the way to the station stop off at USS's, that way if you find anything its a bonus. I have been doing this and have collected a lot of stuff. I haven't specifically gone out to look for things, a watched pot never boils.

Incorrect, i just watched mine boil, then looked at the phone and it rang. On a serious note welcome to Beta 7 in heading out into the black the bubble is a mess will not return until a least 2 patches have dropped, and this was exactly what i expected even if Fdev don,t know there limitations, after 18 months with this game i do.

Days? Days, and your red faced frustrated already? Instant gratification anyone?

I have sympathy. When you are so focused on a goal, the tasks needed to reach that goal can be irritating. But, we're talking days here. In some systems you get daily, or weekly chances for up-grades. A bit of patience will make it more enjoyable at least. Good luck out there.

You missed the point. But you were quick to throw out the tired ol' "instant gratification" line...

The point is that this Engineering crafting is boring and not entertaining - it's not fun work for the reward. This is a game. It's supposed to provide entertainment. A lot of people are simply not entertained by how FDev have implemented this feature. It has nothing to do about wanting something quicker.

sorry, I found it fun work for the rewards and extremely entertaining. I'm as right as you,.

Er no they are not all supposed to be rare the lower grades are supposed to be easier to obtain and if they are not then whats the point of the grades at all.
But yes levels 3-5 should be quite hard to get all of the materials because again whats the point.
as for lil quip about moving on to another game as i am obviously one of these people that complains all of the time and needs instant gratification, you are wrong i am in this for the long haul as you say, i have been here since the start of premium beta and have had absolutely no need to complain about anything, until now where the time put in opposed to the reward gotten out is way out of proportion, for instance i have no trouble with flinging my self out into the void to explore for a few months for 10 - 30 million credits and that's about it, im fine with this grind thats because there is balance between the time put into the reward gotten out. at the moment its not like that in this one particular instance where i am doing say 20 to 30 outpost trying to get a single grade 2 data package ( and not finding any), for a grade 2 mod nothing that would hugely improves things for me.
And no its not a race i just need a lil bit of maneuverability to cope with the new improved NPC's that keep kicking my **** whilst im flying about trying to do science type stuff, because i may have a lil bit o cargo. i don't want to be first, i don't want to be the best, i just want to be able to survive whist still playing the game the way i have been.
So never ending complaints no just this once.
I can see where your coming from and i mostly agree that this update is for the most part brilliantly done it just needs a lil tweak

Another pretty unstructured post here then, haha!

When i said it would be nice to drop some stuff of at engineers i didn't mean "sell it" i meant to drop it off for purpose of saving it there for upgrades for current ship or another ship of mine, especially the canisters of goods needed, im flying a small ship now and its really difficult because i cant carry a lot. And we all know that it can take a huge amounts of tries to get what we came for from the engineer.

About that thing that players who have time to play all night and day should be rewarded, well you are. you're making way more, you're having way more fun already. Those of us who don't however we could be looking for a "very rare" for a year and still not find it. Why shouldn't we be able to sell materials and such to market and another player has the chance to buy. Materials market, data market so those who like to scavenge shipwrecks, drive around and shoot rocks, scan stuff, can do that and make money doing it.

I already have to dump data and materials that i probably never gonna use, but its difficult to know whats what without the websites outside the game who really does what should be done ingame already :p

Needs a bit of work still, lets see what happens

I had to ad that, still game is getting better and better, i dont wanna make it sound like its all rubbish, it is not [praise]

I get your point, but seriously, game descriptions and information is enough if you like the game. when people just wants to 'play the game the way you want' then it lacks of functionalities and documentation. Guess what, I also tried to dock in a station 'the way I want' in a game, but the game didn't have any stations to dock, it was not a spaceship game either. The game has some stuff for casual players and some stuff for hardcore players and people need to know their limits.

People relying in others work to make repositories of information on how to easily find these materials are not helping either. They demand this information now, even if no one knows yet how it exactly work. Impatience leads to frustration.

i really think, engineer upgrades are not "a goal to play the game".

it is very much the same with navy ranks. if you want(ed) navy rank fast, ranking is tedious, boring as punishing. i know this, because i ranked with my first account over half a year, and i was close to hating the game with my second account, because i wanted a courier.

Definitely.

while everything is getting nurfed and npc´s getting buffed, pvpp´s? :p getting upgrades, if you want to have a decent chance you gonna need upgrades

Absolutely true.

This is why it is important that FD manages to balance the game in a way that makes upgrades a bonus, not a requirement to survive.
This seem to be a problem for some commanders at the moment (not my experience). Particularly for commanders with high combat rank, flying multi-purpose or trade ships.

For me it feels a bit wrong that combat rank should determine what kind of NPCs that spawn. It should only be part of the NPCs decision to attack or not.
