Engineers Dev's Oversite in engineers?…needs a solution (allow us to store cargo)

I have an issue and willing to bet others have it also.
For the engineer upgrades we are required to find certain materials etc… (Do not have a problem with this), However I have multiple ships so, Doing the grind and mine the materials I need for all of them and I can change ships without issues provided there is enough cargo space, and here lies the issue.
I have ships build for different roles etc… for example I have collected 60 tons for the upgrades, in my mining Python I can carry 128t’s I can switch to any ship that can carry 60t without issue,
But my FAS only has 4-8 t which means I cannot switch to it or I have to sell of the materials collected for the Upgrades.

Please give was the storage units (even if we have to “Buy them at the stations”) but please resolve this.

I have pretty much stopped with the engineers now because of this, I do not mind do the grind, but I am not going to do it for each ship do to a limitation of the game.

I am in the same position. Just collecting materials here and there, until we have module and cargo storage, otherwise it seems pointless to go for upgrades.

Yes we need storage at stations.

If you think about it, the current status is that you CAN have cargo storage, just you have to pay real life cash for it. (effectively pay to win, hehe)

Buy a second account, get a cargo ship and scoop up the stuff you drop from your main account. (and yes, you can do that all by yourself, running ED within two different accounts on the same PC and log into two different ED accounts at the same time, and be in your own two-CMDR private group).

Many people don't have any cargo space at all in their combat ships. This was really a strange decision to add commodities to the blueprints, effectively mandating a lot of extra effort for ships with few internals (e.g. Viper). It's as if FD only thought people would upgrade Pythons, Anacondas and the like.

Whilst I have disagreed with most people's gripes over 2.1; I actually do agree with this one.

Don't want to be holding on to cargo when I go hunting in my Vulture or FDL - bloody nightmare!

This is called game design. Actually, this is called high school game design class fail, where you have to quit the entire school due to shame.

I do believe that storage is on the cards for a later update (not necessarily within the 2.1 expansion), but it hasn't been programmed in yet.

It will be nice when it gets here however.

And then you have your crafting commodities stored 150Ly from the engineer, and have to fly in your Viper a 2 ton cargo rack, back and forth the entire distance for each 2 crafting attempts...

Well, it might work acceptably if you can have the storage on the engineer base, so you first deliver a large stock of the commodities, then switch and bring your Viper. Then if crafting could draw from that storage, the Viper wouldn't need a cargo rack at all...

Still a lot of hassle. It is beginning to show just how much effort and time it takes to get the tier 5 crafting materials and data, I think the commodities over-stretch the amount of work here anyway.

I just hope that FD will design the storage space normally, like in any other MMO game. "Normally" - I mean accessible from all stations. Storage/bank is an example of game content where realism must be put away for gameplay purposes.

Easy solution provided by someone I've forgotten:

1) Change all needed Crafting commodities to "Material" class (that is no cargo space is used)
2a) Increase material limit to 1200 (or even higher) OR
2b) Implement material stacks

This way (1+2a) there would be only a small source code change and it could be done in an 2.1.x update

I don't believe it's an oversight because it so obvious, they seem to have some gameplay objections to it for some reason and I think will have to be dragged into doing it. The situation as is, is perverse and nonsensical.

If they dont hurry up with it what then? Like someone else here said only large ships will be upgraded due to storage issues. I for one do not want to be waiting around for weeks or months I want it next week so I can get on with this expansion.

Why should it be necessary to juggle ship mods onto other ships so you can upgrade your fast little fighter? The storage should of been out BEFORE engineers. I would love to hear an official response as to why it wasn't.

If that response is valid all well and good I will accept it.

At the very least the community deserves an explanation.

Then they should reveal this reason to us as the community is pretty upset and baffled by it.

This is exactly what I am waiting and advocating for.

Engineers would be much better, and so would the game, with some station storage.

Yes - this is a huge issue imo, and seems to have been completely overlooked. The main bugbear I have is when I find missions that give particular elements or materials that I need for an upgrade - I take THAT mission at THAT station at THAT time, then go run it and complete it.. but then I just end up running around with my cargo full of components but I still gotta find all the other elements i need for the blueprint or whatever to complete the upgrade..!

Anyway - havent managed to hold onto any cargo hold stuff for long enough yet.. it either gets blasted away by pirates, or my ship gets blown up and i just go back to square one. As a consequence im not currently looking for, or accepting, any missions that offer materials or elements as rewards.. its pointless as things stands imo.

STORAGE - URGENTLY - NEEDED - FRONTIER PLEASE ADDRESS, THANKS!

This is the biggest problem I'm facing with engineers and its only going to keep growing for myself and others as well as they run into this issue. So far I've been lucky to have some ships equipped with storage racks to play around with, but I don't see how I'm going to be able to do any serious combat or upgrade any of my smaller ships with upgrades. My stash of engineer related commodities has already surpassed 64 tons...

So you Sir have found yourself backed into an ever larger large ship! As will many other people.

Nice one Frontier, that's a game breaker.

Oh yeah.. forgot to add about the time when I mined up 3 hours worth of rare metals too.. had Osmium, Samarium, Platinum,.. all ready for various upgrades.. just needed last component from planet. Ship went boom. FRONTIER GIF STORAGE PLOX.

120 tons and counting, this is ridiculous on Frontiers part. They should be straight with players why they have resistance to the idea and implement a placeholder mechanism to let us store all items needed for the engineers to facilitate us til a permanent solution can be found, otherwise the game will become unplayable.

This is purely a guess.. but i would imagine its just the extra servers they would need to store the stuff... They probably dont want to shell out.. but im pretty sure they will have made enough out of Horizons/engineers/powerplay to cover the shell out for this equipment no..?

Still no excuse, they should have planned for that and if it was an issue then confine the items to materials and data.

Edit- no point awarding commodities for missions only for us to have to dump them or sell them for peanuts due to lack of forethought/planning on Frontiers part.
