Only low paying missions - what am I doing wrong?

Hi chaps,

I have seen the screenshots of mission boards filled with million + missions. Thought I would get into a bit of this and have gone out to my usual haunts where I am allied to every faction, but I've yet to find a mission for over 500k... Am I doing something wrong, or have I just been unlucky? I have mainly been going to the fringe stations (Ceos/Sothis, Obsidian Orbital, Quince), but have not had much luck.

Am I better off staying more centrally in the bubble and working on my rep with a station here? Or are the other factors I have missed, like systems states and such?

Edit: Was hoping to find some long range trade or smuggling mission so I can gather a bit of exploration data to bribe Felicity Farseer with while earning some credits for my inevitable rebuys.

Highest I've gotten so far is 850k, and I'm not that high ranked (master, broker, trailblazer).
*Have high rank
*Be allied to a faction (this can give you missions above your rank)
*Have enough cargo hold etc
*Be lucky (as missions are random and you still get penniless missions on the board even when you're elite).

I am ranked Competent, Elite and Pathfinder (although I thought the rank requirements had been removed), and have Allied status with all the factions at the stations I have tried. In Quince now with my Asp, which is only giving me donation missions or "Massacre" missions. I don't fancy my chances in combat with an Asp ;)

Have even tried mode-switching. I get different missions, but still pretty rubbish. Could it be that the distance to the nearest inhabited system is so great that you end up getting mostly local missions? In the golden days you would always get at least one mission to haul or smuggle something back into civilisation, but this is no longer the case.

Edit: What are you guys doing to make a living in 2.1?

You need to earn a good reputation with factions and raise your rank in the specific type of mission, combat, exploration, trading etc... My combat rank is Dangerous and my reputation with a few factions is ALLY, I get missions with rewards up to 2M.

So keep working for a faction you like and earn reputation, if your rank is high enough you will receive missions with higher rewards, 500k is not bad anyways, I often do missions for 200k or 100k as well, it's normal, not all missions offered pay high rewards

But I'm allied with every faction, and an Elite trader. Shouldn't I be seeing some high paying trade missions? Are the RNG gods just being a bit unkind to me?

Take a look for high paying missions that aren't being offered to you (at the bottom of the BB) -- if there are any, when you look at the mission it'll highlight why you can't do it. It might be you haven't got enough storage, or status, or whatever.

I should have mentioned that I have been looking at all the missions, even the ones I can't get for whatever reason :) Just can't seem to find anywhere that spawns anything worth while - i.e. rarely anything over 300k, and rarely more than one mission so no stacking. Think I will head into the more populated areas of the bubble and see if I can find some high paying trading missions :)

Can you post a screenshot of the mission board from the most recent station you visited? Maybe someone will spot something you didn't.

Is the system in some state of war/civil unrest/lockdown. This can affect the missions offered.

You might try taking even a low paying mission if they show up at all. When I've done this, it often sets off a chain of missions where the destination of each mission offers better missions but this was prior to 2.1. I can say that the good paying missions are out there but I'm not exactly in the fringe area of the bubble either - more like half-way between the center and the edge.

How strange, went to Cubeo, a few missions worth over 500k, and even two over a million credits. Must have been bad luck on the last three places!

Cubeo (Chelomey Orbital) is in Boom, could that be a factor in this? Alternatively it could be because Cubeo is a bit closer to civilisation than Ceos, Sothis and Quince which where the other three I tried.

Think I should be able to make some cash here with a ship with some decent cargo space :)

I had no luck in Quince and Fehu, too.
However Randomius was with me when I checked out the Mission Board in Aditi. Lots of transport missions to the same system.

Edit: A Python (224t cargo hold) full of transport missions earned me about 17 million credits. :)

Faction state (boom, famine, war, etc.) plays a part in missions offered/reward definitely...Government type decides which types of missions are offered as well. Others have mentioned the rank/reputation. The controlling faction appears to frequently have a much larger number of missions. Patch hasn't been out long enough for me to give any specifics, just some observations.

Cool, I'll need to pay attention to all this :) A nice addition to this update!

OP, try non-Industrial systems which are in Boom. I'm an Elite trader too and I've had plenty of haulage missions in those systems paying from 1.5 to 2 million credits. Of course I'm allied to the local factions too.

Thanks for the tip! Cubeo is being nice to me now, took my Cutter down there yesterday evening and picked up 6 missions all worth over 1 million. Not Robigo money by a long shot, but enough to pay the bills and tempt me in to a few USS's on the way :)
