Powerplay Why am I being attacked after pledging to Arissa Lavigny-Duval?

Arissa Lavigny-Duval is aligned to the empire right? I'm in an empire system and when I go to a RES site to farm I get jumped.

Before I pledged I would do bounty hunting in Federal systems helping the security forces there. I am friendly with the Federation but neutral with everyone in the system. According to my "Status" panel. My HUD says hostile.

Why I am I getting attacked at RES sites now? The attackers don't show up in red as enemies. They just open fire on me forcing me to run. Now I am "Wanted" for firing back at my attackers.

You are in Federation space. You aligned yourself with an Imperial faction. The Empire and Federation are hostile.
Hence, a Federal Agent or any other Federation military vessel is authorized to attack you on sight as an Imperial privateer, but you can't fire back as that's a crime.
In short: It's not safe to go to RES sites in Federation space, just Imperial.

(Alliance and Independent will attack as well.)

Don't worry: In your space, they will come up as Wanted when they attack you.

When you pledged, you took on the beefs your Power had, and those that the other Powers may have with yours. By pledging, you have taken on you Power's enemies in order to get that loot.

Actually, I was in an empire system. I used to farm in federation space.

I figured out that while I was in empire space I wasn't in the territory of the power that I pledged to. So now I flew all the way to Arissa's capital and tried RES farming. But it's much harder now since some of the NPCs there are enemies who try to kill me on site.

I'm guessing as my reputation improves with the power the system security will help me more at RES sites?

So, hostile PowerPlay NPCs can appear in your RES even in an ALD system. They will attack you, but they should become red dots and gain wanted status for doing so. If not it is a bug. There is a known bug currently where allied Power Play NPCs (for you; Torval, Patreus, and Aisling) will attack you as hostile where they wouldn't before 2.1.

So this is my experience.

I joined Arissa Duval because I read some post here that said joining a power doesn't affect your ability to do what you want. I used to farm in a Federal System but suddenly I was being attacked.

So I traveled to Duval's headquarters. It took me some time to fly from where I was to her headquarters. I lost a ship after running out of gas.

Finally, I got there and I see this community goal where you earned bounties in Mehet. It sounded cool so I flew all the way there. Joining a power won't affect my game, right? I'm "Hostile" but I don't worry about it.

I get to the Low RES site in Mehet and without ever firing a shot I am jumped by 3 Federal Agents. Couldn't escape and lost another ship.

What's going on? A whole day of gaming wasted because this game doesn't explain anything.

1. Does joining a power mean you have a target painted on your back?

2. Does it mean that farming RES sites is no longer possible unless your some ace who can handle 2 or 3 ships attacking you at once?

3. Does it make it impossible to do community goals that aren't aligned to your power?

1. yes.

2. The PP NPCs in RES sites is new, but yes, you have to be careful now.

3. No, but it can make it more difficult.

Brotip: you can farm bounties in any Federal system in neutral territory (systems outside the Powerplay bubbles) and go cash them at the cg. It will count the same. There are no PP NPCs hunting you in neutral space.

I can even give you a system not too far to Mehet: Chambo

Edit: only federal bounties count, local chambo bounties must be cashed in-system

Thanks, but I already unpledged. Participating in PP as a bounty hunter is not worth it.

I'm new. I like the tougher AI but having NPCs open fire on you in RES sites is more than I can handle. I'll be independent and do community events.
