Engineers Unlocking tier 5 mods

How many mods does it take to get to tier 5?
I noticed it usually takes 3 mods of the current level to get to the next level.
Currently at lvl 4 on felicity and I am am getting no progress for level 1 mods and very little for lvl 2s
Dropped about 400k exploration data and it got me about 15%
 
You need to craft 3 x Lvl 4 mods to open up lvl 5.

lvl 3's and below contribute negligible amounts to lvl 5 unlock
 
As you suspected, 3 of the current level, i.e. if you want real progress make 3 level 4s.
At least for Felicity is the most stupid way FD done !! Only level 4 mods are for FSD !! so I have to try 3 times the same 4 level ??? from where the necessary amount of materials ?? Or to explore in amount of 2-3 mil ? for me is the only solution [knocked out]
 
Felicity also allows you to rep up by selling exploration data. I like that better than, say, Elvira, where I have to re-roll the same thing over and over to get to a higher level.

Elvira accepts exploration data too, verified several times ! Last time today, I sold data exploration in value of 60.000 cr and get an increase of progress from 26% to 36% at the way between level 2 and 3 ...

Selling stuff for profit didn't seem to do anything for progress at Trader's Rest. I'm at lvl 3 and profit of 120K did nothing.

It does work at Traders rest/Lei Cheung's base. I'm 89% through L3 and that is all with trade profits. No mods attempted anywhere yet.

Can you give an idea of how much money (profit) it takes per percent at the levels you've been through?

Not on my main system now, but it's something like 90,000cr profit per 1% going through level 3 to 4. It's much lower for the lower levels. Mined materials or rares are good for this as its high profits.
