Engineers No more grinding FDev please read

If FD Devs read this...MAKE MATERIALS A COMMODITY ON THE MARKET. You are killing the game with grind grind grind, I thought today about playing ED and then remembered I have to go GRIND because I got a negative upgrade to my FSD range...NO NO NO! I didn't bother logging in, I think that says it all, if people want to mine, let them mine, if people want to land on planets and search for materials, they can do that, but it's a huge Flippin' turn off to do anything, and I refuse to WASTE my time anymore grinding for materials,

I want to explore but I must GRIND GRIND GRIND, NO FD, just NO!

You need to rethink the whole game play from the start. I am not going to WASTE MY TIME on any more grinding.
Not for exploring, not for engineers (grinding killed it) F the wave scanner, F the mining laser, F the surface grinding.
Make materials a Market Commodity for those that simply want to "Blaze their Trail" instead of "Chew their Tail"

Will wait and see how this all pans out, I played EVE for 5 years, and they broke it, i dont play anymore...
Elite Dangerous could well GRIND to a halt if you guys don't take notice and pull your heads out of the sand.

I think the point she is making is that she loves elite, but the grind is killing it. I see her point.

Now while I don't agree that we should be able to buy everything that would be too easy,I do feel that getting materials should be a little more interesting and involving, not just doing the same thing over and over and hoping you get lucky.

Do I get the impression you don't like playing Elite? If so, I suggest you stop.

I partially agree with the OP.

The grind is pure nonsense, but we shouldn't just be able to buy what we need. FD simply need to put some effort into creating some engaging gameplay around searching for and obtaining materials/resources.

Cheers to you CMDR

You arent alone CMDR, many highly appreciate these modifications and want access to them in a more ---either play your own way or something kin to it manner. Id fork out some nourishing cash in the FD store even for the 100% chance at the side effect of choice and even more for the darn mod itself :)

Maybe instead of buying it, we have to pay a monthly rental...that operates like other successful MMOs with the recent VIP option.

As in "Pay to win"? Not a good idea. Its the one thing about Elite i like, you cant buy your way in. You have to earn it.

I enjoy planning Elite, have done rather too much of it.

Until Engineers I felt I could move forward to the next ship at a sensible pace, do a bit of this and a bit of that...

Now I am randomly picking up materials not knowing how to use them. Let us find out what we need then a sensible, challenging way of getting it.
Engineers upgrades seem lots of effort, the benefits and draw backs seem pretty even, don't know what I will get until after I have "paid". Then I change ships and what happens?
Missions are an improved interface, but same old same old. Many missions are 50-150k but if I want to get a fully loaded Python, that is 100M; maybe 250h of game play?
Trading- similar effort and payback but really quite boring. Mining likewise- given it a go, enjoyed it, but just cant move through the game enough doing it.
Combat- I am not a complete muppet but I am no star for sure and bounty hunting is not the road to riches or straight escapism that once it was.

All I see right now is way too much time to invest in order to do the next interesting thing and most of the things I can do now are less fun than they were.

God help anyone just starting out in the game now!

I remember from the early days that the game was going to be designed with people who were time-poor in mind. I guess some people are still hoping that changes might take some ideas back in that direction - and those people probably don't play much. We backed the wrong project, and it probably won't be the last time.

then remembered I have to go GRIND because I got a negative upgrade to my FSD range
You can remove modifications from a module in outfitting. You don't have to apply negative modifications. And you can entirely ignore engineers content. Nobody is forcing you to use it.

Here's a suggestion, stop being "I want x" orientated, do stuff that makes sense to you in game, if you want to explore? explore, you do not 'need' modules or whatnot, just explore, you'll find plenty of materials and whatnot as you explore, it all comes very naturally, want to do missions? do missions.

Elite is built around 'do stuff and use what you get while doing to help improve doing what you enjoy more'
Exactly the same goes for engineers.

If you are specific goal orientated wanting a specific item, then yes, it is going to feel like a grind, very much so, but that is exactly the same as any other game out there, want the legendary uber sword in an mmo? grind grind grind.

You do not need engineer stuff to do what you want to do, so just do it, I get that a lot of games has taught people that you need the best of the best, but that doesn't really hold true in Elite.
Sure an Anaconda is very nice for exploration, but an ASP will get you just about everywhere an Anaconda can do, and heck a Diamondback Explorer will do a great job as well.
You do not 'need' 50+ ly jump range or similar from engineering buff to do anything, sure it will help you to get from a to b in the galaxy faster, but with exploration itself you might just be skipping a ton of places that could be insanely nice, earth likes, black holes what have you, you could be skipping right past them.

So yeah, try to let go of the "I must have x" and just do what you want to do.

OP - it depends on how you approach it. You said you wanted to explore. Then go exploring. We were exploring before Engineers arrived. You don't need Engineer mods.

You don't need any of the Engineer upgrades to play. Yes, you can grind, if you choose to. Or you can just play organically. Got your eye on a particular engineer mod? Move into their vicinity, do whatever you enjoy, and keep your eyes open for what they need to get what you want. Then, when you have it, go pay them a visit.

There is no rush, the game isn't going anywhere, it will still be here for you when you have what you need.

The grind kills the game for many players, but its easily avoidable by not grinding.

I've got my eye on a number of Engineer mods. You know what i've done about it? So far, absoloutely nothing. I have plans, i'll get around to it. In the meantime, i'm picking up components/materials. Perhaps in a week or two, ill head off to the Engineer... maybe not. I've got other things i want to do as well.

I want to explore but I must GRIND GRIND GRIND, NO FD, just NO!

Why exactly do you need to grind to explore? Explorers have been mapping the galaxy since gamma, using everything from a Sidewinder to T9 loaded with rares.

If you want to explorer pick a ship you like and pick a destination. Once you get back you'll likely have enough to fast track to LVL-5, at that point the materials you need will be easy to come across

FSD - 5

2 strange wake solutions - through missions or scanning ship wakes
2 Chemical manipulators - Through missions or investigating signal sources and transport ships
2 Polonium - Obtained through missions or from planets whilst you are out exploring in your SRV

Magnetic emitter coil - Bought from = LHS 2936 fraser orbital
