How to: Discreet Power Failure Required?

Posted this in the Horizons sub-thread but since I didn't get anyone to comment and since there have been few posts there, I thought I should maybe post it here where there is more traffic.

I did accept to do this mission for a minor faction. The description says:


Travel to Metcalf Keep in Cubeo
Locate and disable the Emplacement Generator
Collect your reward from me at Medupe City


How can I complete this mission? I have tried deploying my SRV but, when on the ground, I can select 2 different targets that are labeled "Mission Target". One is the "Emplacement" and the other is the "Generator" (no idea what the "Emplacement" is). I can clearly select one or the other. But the problem is that as soon as I enter the security perimeter, there are 2 or 3 Vipers that come and wipe my SRV. I cannot come within 1 km from either targets.


I then tried to fly to where those 2 targets were. I can't seem to see them from my ship. And, again, as soon as I enter the security perimeter, 2 or 3 Vipers show up and start to shoot at me. I killed 3 but there were already 2 coming up so it seems like an uninterruptible stream of system authority ships coming.


So, has anyone been able to complete this mission and if so, how?

Anyone? Can't believe I'm the only one who accepted this mission in the whole galaxy! I guess I'll have to abandon it.

You need an srv. You take your ship park on the planet near the station and drive your srv over and you'll be able to target the generator when you get closer. Watch out for turrets and the occasional ship, you'll have to be quick.

I just target the generator (it only appears while in the srv) then I drive towards it and hover up if its on the second floor, that way i can blow it up before the trespassing limit is up. Then if i get destroyed, so what, i completed the mission.

Unfortunately, it is not easy any more. You have to destroy the generator whilst surviving fire from the ships, turrets and skimmers. You can take it out from your ship, but you'll either have to snipe it from a great distance, be very quick, tank a lot of damage or take out the dangers one at a time.

I have managed suck a mission since 2.1, I landed outside the trespass zone, legged it in as fast as possible in my SRV and then was lucky enough to hit the generator enough when the whole place turned into lasers and death to score the mission. I'm fairly sure it was actually taken out by friendly rocket fire. No, I did not make it back to my ship, but the SRV was cheap to replace.

Thanks for the tip. Problem is, I already tried to take it out from my SRV half a dozen times. I cannot get within 1 km of the generator. I get 2 Vipers on my back and they quickly shred my SRV to pieces. I tried to take out the Vipers from my Corvette but it seems there is an unlimited supply of Vipers that come at me. That's why I asked. I guess this is the kind of mission where you have to try an infinite number of times in the SRV and have to be lucky. Not really my kind of missions.

Maybe but when I'm on the ground in the SRV, I can clearly select 2 different targets: the generator and this "emplacement". No idea what it is. They are not side by side. The generator is inside the compound but the "emplacement" is outside, in some sort of enclosure. But, again, I never been able to get to either one less than 1 km. It seems almost impossible to complete.

Curious, what's the reward for this mission? Sounds like a corker.

You may need to employ a Wing man to engage the Vipers while you go truckin on the surface.

Did you try not shooting anything other than the generator? Drive up to the generator really quick, and destroy it before anyone even starts firing at you.

The reward is 1.4 mil. I guess that's a good suggestion, finding a wingman. I can't see any other way except to keep trying and hoping for some luck.

I was never able to get in range of anything to shoot, besides the Vipers! Yes, I guess I'll have to try to do something quick, like driving full speed until I'm in range and then shoot it if I'm not already dead by then...

OK, I'm now definitely convinced that this mission cannot be completed. I just abandonned it. I tried the SRV and after speeding full throttle, I got within 500 meters of the emplacement generator, still shooting as soon as the lasers on the SRV were in range. I didn't damage the damn thing before I was destroyed by 2 Elite Vipers using missiles and lasers.

I then decided to see if I could take them out from my Corvette. There were 2 circling above the keep. Upon firing on one, about a dozen quickly appeared and I couldn't escape. The ones I could select were all elite and packing quite a punch for Vipers. But one Corvette against a dozen Vipers, that was too much. 12 millions lost.

DON'T EVER ACCEPT THIS MISSION!

Missiles my friend. Death from above. Fire a full volley from afar and then boost baby boost! There are other methods butbif there are airborne ships then it's likely too risky and time consuming. Just make sure when you fire at the generator you fire at the exposed side. Half of it has a metal armor plate you can't shoot thru.

Have you done this specific mission since 2.1 was out? In any case, I couldn't fire from above because I couldn't simply target the generator from my ship. That's why I think you're referring to a similar mission pre-2.1.
