Engineers DOCKING COMPUTER

Flew from an engineers base to Vesuvit (26 jumps), after modifying my shields in solo mode was interdicted by an npc anaconda. Wanted to test my new mod shields so I let him shoot me up a bit. Shields went down like a hot knife through butter so I ran. Made it to Vesuvit and engaged docking computer, Anaconda jumped in right next to me and blasted me to bits before I could even get out of the docking computers grasp. Really Elite while under docking computer control and in a no fire zone??? 14 mil down the drain.

Was in a Cutter with no cargo.

Sorry for your your lose Commander. At least you get to keep your modded shields.

Are you in a Power Play faction? That's instant magnate to NPC's.

And, never ever trust a Docking Computer. I have one on my Cutter, but I never give it control until I'm through the mail slot.

Also, on a side note, I've left my Cutter docked sense all the "issues" with the NPC's.

How and why is the docking computer in any way the focus or blame here, as per thread title and vent in OP?

sounds like as clearly said, the souped up crazy NPC and chase mechanics were the root cause of your misfortune.

Morale of the story is "get gud" at docking :p

^ UNhelpful! ^

FYI for the OP: The Docking Computer will RELEASE control of your ship simply by moving your throttle either forward or backward from the zero mark, and will not resume control until you return the throttle back to zero. I use it all the time since I usually fly the slot manually and then throttle to zero and let the DC do the final touchdown. Much faster than manual or DC alone.

Also odd that the DC would have even accepted control when under fire. It is programmed to refuse to take over if you are being fired upon. ???

I'd say this is more a case of pilot error than having anything to do with the DC. ;)

Haven't been chased into a station yet, eh?

I've had it happen a few times.

I've never had it happen to me while flying such a big ship. Largest was my Clipper. NPC chased me coming back from a CZ. He interdicted me and, as I was pretty beat up and had no MC ammo, I decided that Brave Sir Robin was a pretty smart guy and followed his example. Now I don't know if it was the same NPC that I had just run from but someone followed me down from SC to the station. He was peppering my butt pretty good.

I don't use a Docking Computer, haven't since the original Elite. And I was really used to flying my clipper and could make fast, smuggler type runs, docking approaches. Got docking permission, shot through the slot and threw it into reverse and dropped my landing gear and barely kept from hitting the rear wall. Him, I hear him smack into the station which lead to him getting fired upon by the station and the security. He didn't last long.

I've been followed to the station more than a few times. Sometimes the Security Force helps me end his days. I am never a sitting duck on slow approach to dock.

Now, I say this next part nicely and with no malice.

Do yourself a favor and learn how to dock not using the DC. Get good at making speed runs. Because, sometimes even the clean CMDR's need those skills.

Fly safe, CMDR. o7

Wait.... you own a cutter, but use a docking computer? Wat.

Also, just use the throttle to cancel the docking computer.

Docking Computer has a Relapse of Older Bugs currently it seems.

They had most of this Fixed before ^^
Wonder why its suddenly Happening again ^^

Poor Docking Computer! It's always being blamed in someway or other for destroying players ships.....now if it had powered up & then smacked your ship into the side of the station then maybe....but not here.

As Some1else posted are you pledged in PP?

The autodock is released when you adjust the throttle.....did you look away or do something else after hitting autodock?

Sorry for your loss, but the blame is laid on the Psycho NPC's not the poor docking computer

Off topic, but I really don't understand the DC snobbery so many people exhibit - using a DC doesn't mean you can't fly. In fact if you are ABA trading and use the DC time to plot your next route, you're reducing your time on the pad and therefore making more money. I do that a lot in the Conda, and I'm sure it is even more true in the cutter where 2-3 hop routes are more common.

I can dock just fine, you don't become elite and fly a cutter by being a noob. I use docking computer so that I can get up and get a coffee refill or use the restroom. Just a noob when it comes to using forums :)

Whats wrong with that, I like to get up for a coffee or a pee break after a 26 jump trip. Do I need to play my game your way??

Not blaming docking computer for anything, it did it's job. I am saying why does a NPC chase me into non fire zone to destroy my cargo less ship. It said, drop your cargo and you can live. I had no cargo.

did you read and understand my post "blasted me to bits before I could even get out of the docking computers grasp"

Well, starting a thread titled DOCKING COMPUTER probably isn't going to help answer that question.

I Can fly my ship backwards into the docking bay, however I use the DC sometimes just because I'm lazy, and want to look at the star map or something.
However its not 100% reliable so need to be NOT trusted.

I don't get it either. Has nothing to do with flying skills. It has to do with basic common sense. If the game provides a more efficient way to land the ship so that I can focus on more important tasks during that time, GREAT!

Those who brag that they have never used the DC don't come off to me as someone to be impressed by. I look on them as somewhat naive as to ignoring a very capable time saver!

Whatever... If I want to land my ship manually, I can easily do it without any problem. That has absolutely no bearing on anything.

Yeah. Clearly, this thread has nothing to do with the docking computer, so leaving it out would save a lot of rants about how anyone who uses a DC can't fly etc, etc. :)
