Engineers Destroyed in Distress Call USS threat level 1

Out in my Asp, collecting materials from USS's, playing in Mobius. I am happy to enter threat level 3's, but ignore level 4's.

I entered a distress call USS threat level 1, to be met by 3 anacondas. I was mass locked, and destroyed before my FSD had time to cool. I never fired a shot. They were still using modied weapons. Dead in 20 seconds.

I am a triple elite, so I know how to handle myself. I was disappointed to find I was outclassed, and out gunned, in a threat level 1 USS.

I thought the AI's had been toned down, and had minimum engineer mod upgrades.

I've been in distress calls before, but this was the first time in 2.1. Is this expected?, or is if because I'm triple elite?

I saw an Encoded Signal-thingy .. Threat 0

Hmm..dropped out of SC and was just about to launch limpets to collect the other material-types ..

Just then an Anaconda and a FDL drop in beside me..
"I dont believe they fell for that" sez the Annie..
I barely made it out alive with A6 prismatic shield ..no shields and 46% hull iirc.
it seems the NPCs are more deviant than was originally thought :)

Hi Smykes. This cannot be right. We should be able to choose our level of risk in USS's, when they indicate a threat level. Glad you escaped with your commodities.

I can understand your point in expecting the threat level to be correct so you can choose what you go up against. And I also understand if you got annihilated in seconds with no way to flee.

I actually would prefer there to be traps and surprises, that's my preference.

But, I also think it's a fair point to say, there should always be a chance to escape. If that's not there, then I think that's the problem, not the threat level being incorrect, as I think, the idea is, it's a trap, which I am fine with myself.

TL/DR:

Threat levels can be faked to create traps. I find this cool personally.

There should always be a chance to escape however. Being one shot with no escape method is generally not that fun.

There is always a chance to escape, especially versus acanonda.
You were in an Asp, 4 PiP to shield and boost, they can't follow you and the shield will hold long enouth for you to be out of range.

Threat level tells you the potential threat of the ships that are there before you drop in. It does not necessarily indicate hostility. You can drop into a threat level 4 convoy of friendly security services.

What follows you after you drop in has nothing to do with it. Keep an eye on your notifications panel for new contacts and be ready to run if anything comes in.

I agree with how that works, but what the poster seems to be saying is that they had no chance to escape, which seems odd.

What actually happened?

I forgot to mention ..
I was in my mostly A-rated Python.. some cargo space for trading/missions.. SRV/ wake scanner/ etc..
also fitted with 2shield boosters.. one modded with kinetic resist and t'other modded with thermal resist.

Im Master Combat rated.. I dont consider myself a good combat pilot tbh..
I havent got the hang of this python yet but its a decent Medium-Pad ship for missions/trading.

I also recall that one of the attackers hit me with something that gave me a "Taking Heat Damage" warning from my ships computer..
I think NPCs are still using some of the modded weapons,

The fact that the NPC actually said " I dont believe they fell for it".. meaning it WAS a trap.. that added another game layer making it feel more risky to fly again..
so I kinda welcome some of the changes made to combat..

Ill just have to go upgrade my thrusters a bit more so I can Run Away a bit faster :)

Combat is 100% borked right now. I'd justy avoid it completely until they fix it.

They keep messing with that part of the game and ignore Exploration, Trading etc and it only falls further and further into the toilet. Or its becoming blatantly obvious they are pandering to the xbox pvp crowd. We should have known when they dropped the offline version of the game that they were only concerned with pewpewpew amongst each other.

Best thing to do when entering one of these is start boosting immediately.. You'll then be more positioned to escape if its looking like you are gonna get drilled ;)

I honestly can't read this anymore. Combat is not borked at all. Like it has been said a gazillion times: Combat before 2.1 was totally borked and the risk vs. reward scale was totally off balance. You could take a 1 million credit C-rated Viper solo into a Haz Res site and could literally make millions and destroy ALMOST any ship, no matter the combat rank, except maybe a Federal Assault Ship or an Anaconda. The NPCs barely fired a shot and did the kebap roll. You call that combat? That is why there is no need to buff the rewards now because before 2.1 the credits were basically a free giveaway. Now they adjusted the risk to match the rewards you get.
You just have to wrap your head around the fact that those times are over and you have to adjust. Instead of Haz Res sites go into normal Res sites. Work with the police. Follow powerful NPCs until they are engaged with somebody else and then join the fray etc.

Combat is only borked if you don't adjust your tactics and don't adept to the new evironment.

I am by no means a pro combat player. Never did PvP, I play most of my time in solo or private. I am a working father and 39 years old. I am your regular casual guy. When 2.1 dropped I did a soft reset and started back in a Sidewinder with 1000 credits but since it was a soft reset I kept my combat rank. After a few sessions I was back in a nice combat courier. Watch Vindicator Jones's video about bounty hunting in a Viper in 2.1. I hate trading, made all my money through combat and still do. Lost a few ships, got beaten twice today by the AI. One rebuy screen and one escape with 27% hull, however, in the long run I still came out a few millions ahead.

You just have to accept that a C-rated Sidewinder is not king of the universe anymore.
