Gimballed or Turrets

Have a A rated Python currently have all class 2 Gimballed, 2 Beam and 3 Multi Cannon.
Would I be better off with Turrets? I have never used them before.

My bigger ships (Python, Anaconda) each have large beam turrets (Conda has three, Python two) and I am (an was in pre 2.1) absolutely happy with it.

With the AI spamming chaff, I'd suggest at least one fixed weapon, mine is a beam laser, my multicannon is on a gimble, sorry I cannot help with turrets, never used them.

Some beam weapons can be turreted if you're in a large ship prone to being outmaneuvered by smaller opponents. Also make sure to set your turret priorities to 'fire on target only' (can be done in the right-side options, same page as choosing factions in a combat zone, turning on external lights etc) so they don't target others and draw further attention to yourself in combat zones.

I'd advise to keep the multicannons gimballed, for if they are turreted they'll use up your ammo a lot quicker due to continuous firing.

Keep the gimbals if you're confident/able to keep your targets painted in front of you. Or if good enough, swap in some fixed.

Never used em.

I don't really have an issue coming to bear on a target with FA off + thrusters. Sometimes Eagle's get me dizzy from all the turning, but I can tank em.

I run 2 large fixed lazorz, one large gimballed MC under the chin and 2 medium MC on top.
They can pop chaff all they want. I can chew em up with fixed or take off the lock and dial in the multi's.

If I were running a large ship, I would look into turrets.

But go for it and let us know how it works for you.

I used to use the majority of turrets on my Anaconda, and I slowly moved away from them before 2.1 launch. It is now a lot harder to keep smaller ships in the front of you, I may go back to having a few turrets, particularly underneath. I have no issues with keeping medium and large ships in front of me, even after 2.1 launch (but I must learn to stop trying to take on larger wings on my own)...
