reset ranking, ranking downgrade, ranking hold

We have the ability to reset a commander save completely while keeping the commander name.

I realize it is not entirely realistic on a realism sense but please on a game-play stand point I would like some or all of the following. And the reason I want these is that I wish to engage and destroy npc, but npc are hard enough for me and I find myself avoiding killing anymore npc as I do not wish my combat rank increasing and the system sending me much harder foes.

1) Ability to reset a rank independent of a whole commander reset.
2) Ability to put on hold a rank so while on hold rank progression is not undertaken.
3) Ability to downgrade a rank to the one lower.

At the very least I would think it not unreasonable a commander should be able to refuse a promotion.

Please lets not too much discuss the AI difficulty, but discuss this feature, if it would be good
 
I was going to say "No" to this, but after a little thought ...

There are bound to be CMDRs out there who have higher CMDR skill levels that they reached against the lower skilled NPCs. A high skill level they wouldn't actually be capable of reaching against the new AIs. This may be part of the problem, the cause of the "AI is too powerful" whining. FD may have to offer a one-shot on-request downgrade to a CMDR's skill levels. This would be a better solution than downgrading the NPCs capabilities across the board.

Until then, if you want to face lower ranked enemies you'll have to wipe your save. That will give you a temporary advantage as you will keep your actual skill level but the NPCs you face will generally be of a lower skill level than now. Of course, as you defeat more of them your CMDR's skill level will rise. This will happen quiet quickly to start with but will tend to level off as your CMDR's skill level reaches your actual combat skill level.

A little while ago I proposed a system that if you were losing to lower ranked enemies than you are, you'd loose the ranks and if you were winning against higher ranked, you'd gain them.
It kind of got stomped on.

Sounds good to me, perhaps that Idea has more weight now that there are many player with a rank they cannot handle.
